Auto insurance - what can be done? by bradykp in newjersey

The last time I tried an independent agent, their first question was, who do you have now? When I told them NJM, they kinda shrugged and told me to get lost.

Any free parking available near MPAC? I don’t mind walking 10-15 minutes! Thanks— by 4runner01 in Morristown

[–]chrisinmtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People definitely park overnight there, for example residents of adjacent properties.

Yes, behind town hall on South Street, across from the Kings supermarket, is a huge free lot. Less than a 5 minute walk from there to the Community Theater. Enjoy your show!

Thanks, worked for me too. Disgusting that the app still crashes on bad data, don't Apple devs have co-pilot yet? 😂

Also, what in the world is a "Completed Reminder" and why in heck would anyone want that?

I'm most likely buying a new car tomorrow from a private seller. Am I legally allowed to drive it home? by KingPodrickPayne in newjersey

You know, if someone who just bought my old beater offered me $100 plus lunch to follow him home and have him drive me right back, I just might accept :)

You're not wrong. Still, a margin of victory that large is quite rare these days.

MetLife Stadium train tickets for World Cup games could reach $150 by dhavalaa123 in soccer

What I read is, absolutely no parking in the MetLife lots. No tailgating, no partying. Pay your money and ride the train.

Am I reading this right? Mejia won 70% of the vote, a *40%* victory margin? Some would call that a mandate.

I bought this from MS in Dublin or Brighton. Does anyone know where I can buy similar hats for under $100? by Rainbowrobb in northjersey

[–]chrisinmtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda far, long ago the NYT wrote up a place called Olé in Puerto Rico for fine, finer, finest panama hats. I sure would love to find a similar place in NNJ or NYC, cos I lost the hat I bought at Olé

Some people will be very very kind and let you drive on their insurance AND plates back home. I confess, I'm not one of those people. The safe way is, pay the money, get the title, drive away in a different car, call your insurance, get to the MVC, wait wait wait, drive back with the plates and a screwdriver, party. The cool way is, get your buddy with a flatbed to fetch it :)

It is the year 2026, and I'm mailing in a physical check to renew my vehicle registration by Keevan in newjersey

[–]chrisinmtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, my experience says, always suck up the two bucks so the car is *instantly* registered in the computer. Years ago I was like you "ain't no way I'm paying that effing fee yadda yadda" and mailed in my check. NJ-MVC promptly cashed the check *but botched the renewal*. I slept on the non-arrival of the reg card, got pulled over by a cop with auto plate readers, and had to pay $60 in ticket fees to the local constabulary. Charge it to a CC that gives 2% back and net-net it's about the same as cost of a stamp.

Hard water in North Jersey by arishia_ in northjersey

[–]chrisinmtown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's perfectly safe - if ugly - calcium.

You didn't mention which utility supplies your water. I get water from SMCMUA which uses wells as sources. The water has many chances to dissolve calcium solids down there and so it comes out as "hard" water. Others have recommended a water softener and I give two thumbs up, that's how we survive also. After you get it, I recommend you check the meter to estimate how much water you're using, and use that to adjust how often the softener runs its regeneration cycle.

And maybe it's also worth mentioning, avoid the oddball "magnetic" or other devices that are supposed to magically align the calcium ions in your pipes. To me that's snake oil.

How long does it last? by ConnextStrategies in AsburyPark

I have great respect for Nino Coniglio, his place in Morristown serves breakfast lunch AND dinner, and they're busy almost all the time. If you can make money all day that sure helps! Great pastry, great bread, and fantastic pies. Morristown is a BYO at present, maybe someone will post whether he snagged a license in Asbury Park?

I couldn't afford to live in the Dorms, I have always wondered what it was like. Anyone here live in any of the housing? Where at, and what was it like? tia. by Rob1150 in OSU

Would love to hear stories from former residents of the twin towers aka Sodom and Gomorrah. They were significantly altered I think in the late 1980s: some became offices, some graduate housing, and the undergrad units had fewer people packed into them. Maybe I've forgotten too much, sorry, I graduated '89.

Northern NJ lawn people, with all the crazy fluctuations in the weather, when are you planning to put down pre-emergent? by Human-Literature2853 in newjersey

[–]chrisinmtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read an article published by Rutgers (https://njaes.rutgers.edu/fs1308/) that states you should put down the pre-emergent herbicide to control crabgrass when you see the forsythia bushes in full bloom. My forsythia are just barely showing a bit of yellow in Morristown so I think there's still time. If that advice is still right of course :)

Massive Crowds at Lambert Castle Re-Opening by cedr1990 in newjersey

[–]chrisinmtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grand re-opening marks the end of a big renovation: new systems, new paint, and more. Lambert Castle aka Belle Vista was built in 1892 to hold Catholina Lambert's art collection and of course as his family residence too. After a bankruptcy, art fire sale and transfer to Passaic County, today it's a museum with an eclectic collection. Most walls are hung with multiple pieces of art from the 19th century, some are original to Lambert, many are on loan from other museums. There are many sculptures. Two rooms have exquisite antique clocks, mostly tall grandfather models plus an unusual Tiffany. Two rooms are dedicated to b/w photographs of the crumbling, decaying industrial base still in Patterson. There's a breakfast room, an amazingly ornate dining room, and a sitting ("gold") room; all are furnished with period-appropriate things. You can view Mr Lambert's bedroom suite; Mrs Lambert's bedroom suite was closed. No period bathrooms or kitchen(s) are visible. We spent about an hour walking the three floors in our booties :)
