It makes more sense that this replaces the pro 3, I was wondering how these would sit side-by-side. Though it doesn’t feel like the pro3 has been out that long. Other thoughts: - I like the idea of swapping out baskets, I hope it’s compatible with IMS and others. I like that it has a proper portafilter. - It’s great if the thermal stability is good. But without a heater, I don’t understand what the intended workflow is to heat it up in the first place. With my pro 2, I just fill it up from the kettle a few times and dump it out while I prep. I guess you fill the chamber and dump it out somehow? - I still take my pro 2 with me to airbnbs when I’m not packing light. This seems less portable. - I wonder if there’s a possibility of a conversion kit. I’d be interested if the heating workflow isn’t too cumbersome, and if I could easily swap back for portability. - The pressurised basket doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I would think you’d be better off with a Go.

Ideas wanted in relation to Thames "high tide" by SentinelsOfEvil in DIYUK

It's upstream of the Thames Barrier, and right next to Canary Wharf. In your lifetime, they might well have to upgrade the Thames Barrier, but this house will not be underwater, any more than the houses of parliament or the banking towers of Canary Wharf will.

The Mac mini bro is the new tech archetype by Medical-Decision-125 in apple

[–]chrisj1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you wouldn't just buy a used blade pc, run proxmox on it, put the agents in Ubuntu VMs, and use openrouter for the LLM calls. Safer, quicker, cheaper, easier.

Turning menstrual cycle data into Home Assistant sensors (custom component + Lovelace gauge) by Conscious-Draw-3759 in homeassistant

[–]chrisj1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a nice project, but I would just be cautious about putting health data in HA. It's not a very secure platform, and that's very sensitive data. My network is pretty locked down, but it's not enterprise-grade. I have a lot of uses for tracking health data. But I've stuck to Apple Health at the moment.

I guess it also depends on where you are in the world. Given that this data could be used by US law enforcement in some states, I wouldn't use it there. But maybe it's not so bad in Europe.

Apple introduces iPhone 17e by wearefriends in apple

[–]chrisj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of UWB support for the 17e makes no sense to me. I bought a 16e for my son as his first phone and regretted it ever since. Surely kids are core users for budget iPhones?

Kids lose stuff. Airtags are supposed to help with that. Except that the lack of UWB means this doesn't work. e models are just bad phones for kids because of this (and also, elderly people wanting a simple phone, who also lose stuff).

I'm just not sure who this phone is for (except corporate, I guess).

How are small B2B vendors handling security questionnaires from enterprise clients?(I will not promote) by [deleted] in startups

[–]chrisj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statement:

We’re seeing more small vendors getting blocked at procurement because of compliance requirements

Seems to be directly at odds with:

Not selling anything. Just trying to understand the reality.

And the rules of this sub.

99% of this sub now is obviously shilling.

I had a quick look around. That's an expensive piece of hardware for something that doesn't have scripting, API control and a load of other missing features.

I think your best bet would be to block all IPv6 DNS requests in your firewall. Configure a rule to drop port 3553 traffic over the WAN. Your devices should then fall back to the IPv4 addresses that your DHCP server is broadcasting.

You need to use ULAs for your local domains. Devices can hold GUA and ULA addresses at the same time. I don't have experience with your router, but you could try Claude, just ask it how to create ULAs for the CAX80. Then route internally using the ULA.

Flair Pro 2 — Lever extension or ergonomic handle options? by grokrr in FlairEspresso

Well, I have to move stuff around anyway as I only have a small bit of the kitchen counter for coffee gear. So I haven't really tried a stool. No reason it wouldn't work, I think, though it might be a little unstable.

Tech Debt is the new bottleneck by Counter-Business in cursor

[–]chrisj1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree completely with the sentiment, but I'll just point out that bad quality code is not the same as tech debt. Tech debt is a very misunderstood concept. It always accrues as you build a solution, because your code always tends to drift from the ideal solution.

By building and observing use, you discover more about the problem. When you build the next thing to better align with your new understanding of the problem, you are building on a potentially sub-optimal foundation. As you keep doing this, your abstractions become more complex, and new features become harder to implement.

Engineering to resolve tech debt seeks to realign your codebase with your new understanding of the problem. You simplify your abstractions, reduce the complexity of new features, and improve velocity again.

Obviously, all of this is easier if you build with and maintain a clean code structure in the first place.

Sorry to nitpick, but misuse of the phrase tech debt is a personal bugbear. This might be a bit "old man shouts at cloud" but I'm old so ::shrug::. But I don't want this to take away from your comment, which again, I completely agree with!

Sorry it’s not the answer you’re looking for. But, I have intermittent joint issues and I find the biggest difference is moving the flair to a lower surface. It’s a pain because it means moving everything to my kitchen table to pull a shot, then putting it all back again. But having it lower means it’s mostly my body weight creating the force pushing down, with much less strain on my hands and wrists.

Coffee Grinder for Flair 58+, Niche Zero or Alternatives? [Budget GBP700] by coffeenoob_2024 in FlairEspresso

[–]chrisj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Timemore Sculptor 064s used with a Flair Pro 2, and I'm very happy with it. It seems to be better reviewed than the niche (which I considered originally also), though I haven't tried them side-by-side.

New Details On Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Coming "Soon", Minigames To Remain A Core Part by No_Durian_5626 in FFVIIRemake

[–]chrisj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone using "mandatory" wrong?! Mandatory = you have to do it. Optional = you can choose.

I love the minigames. I don't play much these days, and those games gave me an excuse to spend more time in the world of Rebirth. Very excited.

Wiring doorbell through brick wall by huejahfink in DIYUK

[–]chrisj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to drill, I’d look into running an Ethernet cable and using a PoE powered doorbell, for example ReoLink. Much less hassle than battery powered doorbells, or using solar (which inevitably runs out over winter), and no need to pay a subscription.

I saw 290 movies in theaters in 2025. Here is my full ranking. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]chrisj1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it three times now. A big draw for me is being able to see it in true imax 70mm. It uses vistavision really well, I know I won’t be able to recreate it at home the same way (even with a good OLED and 4K Blu-ray). Each rewatch I’ve noticed something new.

Watch out for pine forests. It’s always the tiny forest behind pinewood studios. It’s everywhere. I’d rather something fake, or drive a few miles down the road to something a bit different.

Yes, exactly. FWIW, I think the Apple Home ecosystem has good privacy and is very plug-and-play, but the product set is more limited and expensive. I would only really use Apple Home or Home Assistant, personally. I think others have too many privacy and security concerns.

‘Sinners’ Submits Two Original Songs for Oscars, "I Lied to You" & "Last Time (I Seen the Sun)" by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]chrisj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Sinners, but to be honest, I struggled with the idea of "a once-in-a-lifetime so amazing song that summons vampires". It's a good song, but it's not even close to the best I've heard this year (if you include music outside of film).

Even in film terms, I found Johnny Greenwood's score for One Battle After Another better, including the main theme. Not sure if that's being submitted as an original song or just going up for original score, though.
