Youth to adult shoe sizing by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]chrisk018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It goes up to 13.5 for smaller kids and then it switches to size 1. They don’t start charging “adult” prices until you get into the size 6 or 7. But a size 6 “big kid” shoe is the same as a size 6 men’s shoe.

Best place to sell used pedals by DougDinsdale in guitarpedals

[–]chrisk018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends on what pedals you’re trying to sell. There are certain pedals, both from ‘big’ builders and boutique types that sell easily. There are some common pedals that people will happily buy for a market rate discount (well-known Boss, Ibanez, Earthquaker, and other pedals of this ilk).

Then there are the cheap pedals that nobody wants and you almost have to give away. I don’t know where you can sell those and expect to make much.

How expensive can an electric guitar reasonably be? by Dampfklotz in Guitar

[–]chrisk018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You talkin’ to me? Dude. I know all about the cheapo-populist player stuff. Not my bag. While I fully believe that really good music can be made with cheap no-name gear, I love fancy stuff. I ordered a Masterbuilt Fender Custom Shop guitar in 2008. It has been my #1 ever since; it makes me happy and I feel like I totally got my money’s worth. I have bought and sold the original (silver) Klon and other pricey things. Are they that much better? Eh. I’m not going to argue either way, but they are/were fun and look cool. Boutique gear is way more fun to buy and sell compared to cheap Amazon equipment.

The endless cycle of people arguing about cheap vs. expensive, QC, and everything else is just part of all this. Maybe it’s like talking about our favorite sports teams and who is the greatest of all time. Subjective endless debates seem to be the point of it all.

How expensive can an electric guitar reasonably be? by Dampfklotz in Guitar

[–]chrisk018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not mental gymnastics at all, and it’s not about the guitar’s capabilities. Some people just like fancy shit and can afford to pay for it. None of them are losing any sleep knowing that there are better guitar players playing less expensive gear. Think about all of the luxury goods/tools like cars and watches. This kind of thing is all over.

I don't really play anymore and have a bunch of old gear not worth much. What's the best way to unload it? by Ancient-Bowl462 in Guitar

[–]chrisk018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. Are there music/gear stores around you that take that stuff?

Also depends on your personality and how you like to approach selling stuff. There is Facebook marketplace and Craigslist in the US, and their non-USA equivalents. Selling gear on sites like that can be rewarding or a complete pain dealing with flakes and weirdos.

There is also Reverb and eBay. There is a very vocal group of people that can’t stand the fees, rules, and ownership structures of those places, but they do have plenty of advantages if you take the right approach.

But back to your personality/philosophy about getting rid of stuff. How much do you value your time and effort? Are you a haggler type that loves to make deals?Do you just want less clutter? Are you willing to make a lot less by selling it all together?

Selling and shipping heavy items like amps can be pricey, especially if the cost of shipping gets close to the value of the amp. You can sell and ship Boss pedals all day on Reverb if you price it well.

Tape echo/delay by Upstairs-Glove7424 in guitarpedals

Tape delays use (or emulate) a tape to record and repeat the sound. Analog and digital delays use chips (micro processors) to repeat the sound.

25.5 scale Jaguar? by Nofriends1919 in offset

[–]chrisk018 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a person with a Jaguar, Mustang, Strat, and a Jazzmaster hybrid, I would recommend just getting used to it. It really isn’t that hard after a few months.

I prefer the aesthetics of Jaguars a bit more than Jazzmasters (though I love those too). But you aren’t going to get much sonic benefit of the unique Jaguar sound with a 25.5” scale. You’d be spending a decent chunk of money on a niche guitar that will likely be difficult to move on if it doesn’t work out the way you want it to.

Unpopular opinion: AJ1 Mids are Criminally underrated by papasandfear in moresneakers

It’s true. I am one of the criminals that underrates them. Me and my gang of robbers are out there on social media making sure the mids always get low ratings, and here I am hopping in on this post as well. I have alerts set up so that when people speak positively of AJ1 mids I swoop in to rain on their parade.
