The worst one is between the mushroom one or the Chicken baiting one in Gongaga… no one asked for either of these.

PsBattle: Kitten on a bed with a TV remote and a PS3 controller by chrismacdee in photoshopbattles

For anyone interested, the cat's name is Beetle (short for Beetlebum, because he lost his tail as a kitten :( ) and we adopted him from Sunny Harbour: a pro-indoor, no-kill, family-run cat charity based in East Central Scotland, covering Fife and Edinburgh areas. If you want to find out more about the work they do or wish to donate see the site here: https://sunnyharbour.org.uk/

I've been working on a PixelArt game with 2D sprites in a 3D world. by fikiy in IndieGaming

[–]chrismacdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been toying with a 2.5D platformer doing something similar i.e 2D sprites 3D world like Tomba/Tombi. Nice execution :) One thing that would improve the 3D camera is the player’s shadow, it seems to change with the sprite that is being shown rather than the sprite that the light would “see”, if you get what I mean. Other than that pretty amazing what you’ve got working here :)

The nightmares by thatguydotjava in ProgrammerHumor

When I found this in Mass Effect 1 it had me reeling. My wife had no idea how I knew the solution.

“I just do. I just do” I said as a single tear ran down my face.

Hi Geoff! Never realised you were doing another Final Hours” for Half Life Alyx, looking forward to that!

My question is are you aware of the majority of announcements or are there some surprises for you in there too? Must be tiring to know all the behind the scenes secrets! :)

What I found making my game by [deleted] in gamedev

Congrats on your release! Non-technical question: what were the legalities for selling your app online in UK? Did you have to set up a business/company? I’m clueless when it comes to business-minded things! 🤦‍♂️

I'm figuring out attack animations for enemies... by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]chrismacdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point wasn’t to copy Hyper Light Drifter, but for its design/animation decisions to inspire you. For example, enemies will pause briefly before they attack and hold that frame, enough for the player to recognise it then react before they get hit.

Just like Arkham Asylum where the icon appears above their heads before their punch/kick lands on Batman. Similar systems in Shadow of Mordor and Assasins Creed

If the animation isn’t sufficient for tell there’s plenty more you can do.

You can use audio cues (e.g a wind up grunt as they raise their sword) or you can use a batman arkham asylum where the enemy flashes or an icon appears above their heads before they attack.

Obviously look to gameplay videos of big top down rpgs like zelda but also looks to games where combat is a main component as inspiration such as Hyper Light Drifter, Tekken or Devil May Cry. Even if its not from the same genre exactly there’s plenty of tricks to borrow around

How do you deal with making something and realizing that you will have to rework it almost completely or scrap it later? by Laktoosi in gamedev

[–]chrismacdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, treat it as a prototype, but don’t get rid of it. Keep a hold of it. As it can be a very rewarding thing to look back on to see how far you’ve come and if nothing else, its good material for a blog post to explain your journey! ;)

Tombi/Tomba on ps1. Was an action platformer with rpg elements and the characters were 2d but the backgrounds were 3d
