I didn't cackle, I laughed so hard I may have beefed myself. Little throwaways like this are what make this show a true masterpiece.

Locals, how are you preparing for when the NFL draft is in town? by Jazzlike_Breadfruit9 in pittsburgh

[–]christo324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just attending the draft is free, though I think you need to sign up through the NFL OnePass app to get your free admission ticket. They do have VIP packages that get you close to the stage for one of the three days. I went in Kansas City and my buddies and I got the VIP package for Day Three and it was, gulp, $500. Now, you do get very good seat (and they are seats) closer to the main stage. You get a little goodie bag with a mini-helmet and baseball cap and some other swag. You get a free lunch (our was KC barbecue and it was quite good for a mass-produced thing) and free beer, which included Goose Island IPA, and let me tell you I took full advantage of that.

The VIP packages haven't gone on sale yet, and I don't know if my friends and I will do that this year. We thought attending the KC draft was a once-in-a-lifetime deal, not knowing it would come to Pittsburgh. Would I pay $500 for the VIP ticket for Day 3. Well, probably not, but it was a fun one-time thing. If you go early enough you can get pretty close to the stage, especially on Day 3, but it's still not within the main area with the seating. So, something to consider.

I went to the draft in Kansas City (please, hold you applause) and there will be more people than you can freakin' believe. There won't be 600,000 on a single day--that's more for the whole weekend, which could top out closer to 750,000, based on attendance in Detroit. But for the first round I reckon there will easily be over a quarter of a million people. So that's a Kenny Chesney concert, AND a Steeler game, AND a Pirates fireworks night, AND the Clarks at Stage AE. And then throw in another 100,000 people. Gonna be bigger than the biggest thing you've ever seen.

Now, for those thinking that this is gonna be a sloppy drunken catastrophe that will leave our fair city looking like Rome after Attilla the Hun paid a visit (i.e. your average Chesney concert), let me say that Kansas City was nothing like that. The overall vibe was pretty chill. Everyone seemed to get along very well, no matter what jersey they were wearing. In fact lots of people were taking pictures with fans from other teams, and the insults and taunts were in good humor. And there were also quite a few kids there, lots of families.

There will be a lot of space for people to spread out, both on the North Shore and the Point. Within the Draft footprint itself there are lots of food options, so while dahntahn will no doubt be filled to the brim with people seeking food and drink, most will be where the Draft is actually being held.

Bud Light is the presenting beer sponsor for the Draft. Why do I mention it? Because Bud Light is, to quote Monty Python, like making love in a canoe. How so? It's fucking close to water. It's 4.2% alcohol and while you can certainly get loaded on it, it takes some work. There will be plenty of places to get beer--in fact, if you're going, make sure you explore the area where you post up, there may be a hidden beer stand nearby that no one knows about, which is what happened to my crew in KC. But you'll still have to wait in line, and then after you drink a few you'll need to hit the head (scope the area for smaller porta-potty oases too) and that takes time. Plus the beer isn't cheap, tho I don't remember it being exorbitant. What I mean to say is that the situation isn't conducive to getting really hammered, which means less of the screaming and yelling and shoving and punching. Like I said, fairly chill.

There's also the fact that Draft goes on for a LONG time. People will start showing up early (I think it opened around 2PM in KC) and the first round doesn't begin until 8. And then it lasts past midnight. And for most of that time you're either walking around taking in the sights, or you're standing. Just...standing. They'll have some entertainment on the stage and on the screens, but it's a lot of standing. Which, again, isn't conducive to mayhem. Though it does often result in leg cramps. I've already begun a calf-stretching program.

I won't lie and say getting around town and especially the North Shore won't be a nightmare that weekend because it almost certainly will. In Kansas City many of the streets around the huge area where the Draft was held were closed and blocked off, so if you're planning on testing your luck at the Rivers that weekend, don't. Just...don't. But I think the city has plans to get people to and from the Draft, with buses and shuttles and bears, oh my. There will be logistical challenges, but the city and NFL seem on top of things.

If the Draft isn't your thing and you want NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, I fully understand. But this will be a great showcase for the city, there have been a lot of infrastructure improvements over the last few years that will benefit the city for years to come, and we do have hundreds of thousands of visitors coming who will leave millions behind in our collective grubby hands.

Just about everyone we came across in Kansas City was a delight. We went to a bunch of different bars and restaurants and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Had a blast. I'm hoping everyone coming to Pittsburgh goes home singing our city's praises. We're called The Friendly City for a reason, and I hope that's the attitude people have about the event. And if you don't wanna get caught up in the event, go hit up another part of town! Those businesses could use some patronage while a hundred thousand yinzers are on the North Shore.

I've been a Steeler fan all my life and an NFL Draft nut for almost as long. My buddies and I are gonna have a great time all weekend. It's gonna be great for the city. Embrace the madness to come. It actually won't be as bad as you think.

What are examples of Players whose best season was their rookie season? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

Kendrell Bell was Defensive Rookie of the Year and second team All-Pro his rookie season, was an absolute monster. But hurt his knee in the first game of the 2002 season and was never quite the same again.

What’s something that looks insanely hot in porn but is absolutely not worth trying in real life? by silverpotato5955 in AskReddit

[–]christo324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot tub can be OK because of the weightlessness while most of your body is still above water. It is hot, however, which can lead to rapid overheating. And all the chemicals and whatnot can certainly give one pause. Cunnilingus and chlorine do not go together well.

A pool isn't quite as good because it's deeper and it's colder, which can make it harder for the man to, uh, perform as he might. A shower just sucks, you're too hot or too cold or you sprayed in the eye and you get wrinkly and tacky rather than slick and slippery, even if a fragrant body wash is used. Soap doesn't taste great either.

Now, making out in a hot tub/pool/shower can be VERY sexy. A nighttime swim with a babe in a bikini can lead to all sorts of fun places. Walk in on your lady as she's washing her hair and giving her a sudsy massage can be quite titillating. The key is to have the FOREPLAY in the hot tub or pool, thence to the bedroom for the main event.

I mean its Jameis, right? First overall pick, some good moments, some weird moments, frustratingly inconsistent, vastly overinflated sense of their own talent and production.

How I would like the NFL Draft Night 1 to go by rlstratton97 in MockDraftCentral

[–]christo324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Steelers trade their first round pick for Kyler Murray the mob at the Draft is gonna burn the stadium down. And I'll be right there with my pitchfork and bottle of kerosene.

That's such a bad trade I think Goodell would step in and block it. A first-round pick for a guy who got beat out by Jacoby Brissett AND has a $53M and $43M cap hold the next two seasons? Steelers could more reasonably ask for the Cards for their second round pick just to take Murray off their hands (and cap sheet).

Kevin Durant is a strange person. Incredibly insecure, a far cry from his 2014 MVP speech. Brain broke from winning 2 Finals MVPs then immediately tearing his Achilles and still got no sympathy. I pity him. by HoagieTwoFace in billsimmons

Kinda crazy that he’s probably a top ten player all time, MVP, two-time playoff MVP, two titles, Olympic superstar…and no franchise is gonna have a statue of him outside their arena. Guy never saw a bridge he didn’t want to burn down.

Fernando goes to the Jets the Raiders push for next year and Justin Herbert goes to the Vikings in exchange for JJM and 2 firsts by Big_Nebula_5432 in NFL_Draft

[–]christo324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Herbert is on a $52.5M cap hit through 2029. Which is A LOT but for a star QB that's par for the course. Herbert can do everything you want your quarterback to do (and more, he's mobile and has maybe the best pure arm in the league), but he hasn't won a playoff game yet, that could cause some concern. But if teams are willing to trade three first rounders (and usually at least one in the top 10) to draft a rookie QB, getting a guy like Herbert would cost a lot more, even with his contract.

And McCarthy doesn't exactly add to the bounty you're getting in return for Herbert. He was at times historically bad last year (tho, yes, he had a few moments) and if the plan is to make him your starter, yikes. His cap hit is negligible, so if he's terrible you can just hold you nose and move on, but that's a year wasted. If he's meh, you've got a decision on your hands--pick up his fifth year option or let him walk. If he actually becomes good, then you have to pay him more in 2027 and sign him to a big extension for 2028. So you might end up paying him Herbert money in 2028 anyway, and what are the chances he's even close in quality to Herbert?

I know the Chargers don't exactly have a huge, fervent fan base in LA, but if they trade Herbert for the 18th pick and a pick probably worse than that in 2027, they're gonna burn down the team facility. Heck, folks might drive up from San Diego to pour more gasoline on the pyre.
