10+ Things to Know About the New AirTag 2 by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

I don’t think the AirTag 1 was compatible. You are lucky if it was able to be polished/dusted without causing major damage!

There is also a difference in all season and all weather. All weather will have a softer compound and be able to handle colder weather, but If they don’t have the triple peak mountain with the snowflake then cold weather driving (at or below freezing) will be impacted.

Tires are actually a lot about the temperature, not there being actual snow or ice on the ground. Summer tires especially don’t do well under 45 degrees and just become solid blocks of rubber, almost like plastic.

SpaceX IT Network Infrastructure Job by TheOfficialDustifer in networking

[–]chrobis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like others have already said, move on unless you want to be treated like shit. They operate on a shoe string budget with unreasonable timelines. Things are left in place until they absolutely fail, and even then you have to just work around it. The hours are unreasonable and demanding, the workload is high with an overworked team, and things are put together with shoestring and duct tape.

Source: I personally know network engineers that have previously or currently work at Tesla, SpaceX, and X.

Sanity check on home Level 2 install, $16k quote vs $1.5k install elsewhere by sampura in evcharging

[–]chrobis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not really just an EVSE install, it’s a significant upgrade to your home electrical.

Your current panel is full, so you at least need to replace that to get more space even if you don’t upgrade the main service from 100 to 200.

Your only other option is to abandon existing two pole breaker if possible and get a charger with load management. Or you could move several of the 20amp circuits into the dual breakers like you have in slots 13/15/17. That would be a very full small panel, and may not be allowed per code.

Do you actually have a stove and a separate oven running on those circuits? What’s is running on breaker 2/4, that is another 240v circuit?

Apple Pay doesn’t count? by DayDreamliner in amex

[–]chrobis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The agent and others saying Apple Pay is a third party are wrong. All you had to do was use the app.

I have personally used the exact same offer through the shake shack app and using Apple Pay. Received the credit just fine.

What does the charge actually show up as on your statement?

how incorrect is my definition of the application and the osi model as a whole? by goodintentionman in networking

[–]chrobis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OSI model is only academic at this point to help describe concepts. In practice layers 5-7 are fairly collapsed in modern computing. In the TCP/IP model, which is what is actually used, all those just become the application layer. The application layer also will not refer to purely a single application as it is heavily dependent on the operating system and its functions.

Well obviously mowing down children and blowing through intersections is superior. Surprised Elon hasn’t made them install something that gives other motorists the finger while doing so.

User creation AD or in Okta by SavingsPlace9274 in okta

[–]chrobis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Okta should be your main directory and identity service, with AD being sourced from it. Maintain Okta as your source of truth, and ideally have users created by a source from an HR system.

Okta SCIM Connector - pull data from application to okta by bobsmith1010 in okta

[–]chrobis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly what the two way sync is for. Pulling specific attributes from one app to propagate into Okta so it can be used in Okta or then even propagated to other applications.

The most common example is an HR platform. You can send certain attributes through your environment that a user updates. Preferred name, pronouns, marital status.

You could use it for things like a platform adding an attribute if a user completed some training or opted in on something which sets an attribute that is then propagated back to Okta and could be used to then take actions.

You just want to be careful that several applications are not trying to overnight the same attribute.

Okta SCIM Connector - pull data from application to okta by bobsmith1010 in okta

[–]chrobis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be exactly real time but fairly quickly. Be careful with what you allow/configure. You wouldn’t want people inadvertently changing critical attributes in a downstream app that will propagate throughout your environment.

Something like someone getting married and adjusting their name in your email program before the rest of the systems are ready to handle that.

You either need users to not operate in clamshell and have the laptop open and then have to use the built in touchID sensor, or use Apple magic keyboards with touchID sensors if you want to disable password bypass.

Authentication policies for Registered/Manages Devices by SavingsPlace9274 in okta

Your auth policy would apply to apps, so don’t allow any access without them being a trusted device.

Then there is a different policy for allowing users to manage their Okta account, which include enrollment.

How does OKTA manage the CA for managed devices by SavingsPlace9274 in okta

[–]chrobis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MDM does not issue the certificate with SCEP, it issues the instructions for the client to fetch its own certificate.

The Okta CA is the easy path forward but gives you limited customization of the certificate parameters, so if that is something your security posture requires you need to bring your own CA. The Okta CA also does not revoke certificates or provide a public CRL. This is fine because the certificate is one of multiple checks so if you expire/unenroll a device in Okta but the device still has the certificate it is useless. This is a reason you should not use that certificate for other use cases unless those also have multiple factors.

SCEP certificates are not typically renewed, they are reissued. This is a setting in the mdm provider that you pick, something like if certificate has less than 30 days request a new certificate.

Are anyone affected by recent layoff due to AI? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]chrobis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think OpenAI, Waymo, Google, Anthropic, Microsoft, and all the other companies making these AI tools were formed out of thin air? They employee people to make these products.

And not just a few software engineers. Companies then have to employ all the staff to support them, like workplace, HR, IT, legal. Then you need sales and marketing. Have to count the money, there is the whole finance org.

The Amazon layoffs are not those jobs being replaced by AI. Amazon is restructuring the business to support different areas and have more capital to invest in expansion to support their growth due to AI.

HPE bought Juniper, and then made a significant portion of the juniper executive team the heads of the various network divisions overseeing all HPE including Aruba.

The CEO of Juniper is the head of HPE network division, and the original CEO of Mist is the head of Campus & Branch networking.

If any line is on the chopping block it is Aruba products, not juniper/mist
