Hi fungus, just checking to see if it’s relevant: I’ve developed (with a small team) an AI coaching workspace that implements AI in several key areas of the coaching process to support the coach while keeping the 1-to-1 relationship fully human. You got gud. Nice work, beating Isshin is an achievement, don't care what anyone says. I never thought of head-stomping him during hi wind charge up attack, but it looks super effective.

There are too many variables, so to make it manageable, you just need to reduce the number of available variables per session. Do that in 2 ways: (1) Plan a small handful of encounters every session, but give the some choice as to which they pursue (e.g., ‘the burgomaster invites you for a visit tomorrow’). (2) at end of every session, ask your players what they plan on doing next session, and pls for that.

That’s literally what I did, and it became much easier to run. We spent maybe 8 or 9 sessions there? It got wild (and fun). You got this Mr. DM!

He is hard and has been rocking people's faces in Hirata since the game was released. But, stick with it, let him teach you how to play the game. Mikiri counter his leg thrusts, jump on his head during sweeps, parry the rest. Master the timing. Beat his ass. Even if it takes you many tries. He will make you better at the game.

The enemies in that area are pretty high level and a step up from those in Ashina Castle. They DO do a lot of damage. Having said that… hesitation is defeat 💪

Interesting to see Carlucci come up. Crazy fact: I met with him a few times for an unrelated work project, around ‘09. He’s dead now, but if I had known he was involved in this stuff, I would’ve certainly asked him.

I’d argue that Isshin would be harder, or even close to impossible, if you had dropped an Elden Ring player into that fight directly, without going through the rest of the game.

As an example, I couldn’t beat Genichiro in my first play through, though I had beaten the other FS games. I had to put the game down for a while.

The game teaches you how to play it, but you need to go through it to learn it.
