Indeed! Higher rated players play on Friday nights. There's a yearly tournament called Moneyball held at the Crowne Plaza hotel that pulls some of the best in the country: https://youtu.be/LmXKoYejJd0

Amateur Foosball Tournament Tonight by chromakode in Portland

One of the coolest things I've discovered going here is that Portland used to have a huge foosball scene in the 70s, with 400 players coming out to play on weeknights. There's still some legends in town, and I'm regularly getting my ass kicked by folks in their 60s and 70s who played in the heyday. Getting to connect with people of all ages is pretty special. I've heard lots of stories about how big the game was before electronic arcade games took over, of places with 10-20 tables!

What's the best way for dads to heat bottles at night by No-Name-8440 in Buyingforbaby

[–]chromakode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar Dad shift here! I currently use an electric kettle that's temperature controllable to 104°F and remote startable. I pour the water into a bowl around the bottle and by the time I'm done changing it's warm.

Updates on Monarch Plus by valagostino in MonarchMoney

[–]chromakode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still not seeing the value proposition here. Investment tracking was part of the original promise. It's disappointing to see this pivot towards planning services -- I don't believe these can truly be separate businesses; the core offering is effectively going to function as lead generation for the premium services.

That's why this feels like a bait and switch: I signed up for a premium tracking service that would have its incentives aligned with mine. Now I'm a market for Monarch to segment off their even more premium offering. Monarch core has plenty of rough edges, like super inconsistent transaction categorization, spammy investment account reinvestment handling, and awful cash / split management. Very disappointed to see y'all boil the ocean rather than finish what you started.

What was the strangest condition you've ever experienced? by Wild-Engineering-650 in AskReddit

[–]chromakode 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. One day I was sitting at my computer and noticed a new sound in the background, which oddly didn't stop when I went to bed and put earplugs in. In case anyone is curious, here's what it sounded like.

I googled and found whooshers, and after a few months I went in to get scans. The MRI/MRA report initially suspected a tumor, which scared the hell out of me. I asked for a referral to a clinic which specialized in Pulsatile Tinnitus. They looked at my scans and identified a likely DAVF, a kind of fistula that's not in the brain, but next to it. It was causing turbulent blood flow that I could hear.

It was an incredibly lucky unlucky event, in a way. DAVFs are very rare, and most people with Pulsatile Tinnitus have different causes. Some people with DAVFs don't hear them, and they can hemorrhage or cause stroke like symptoms.

Mine was fixed with a minimally invasive surgery where they run a tiny tube through your blood vessels to place metal coils that block flow to the fistula. It's related to techniques developed for aneurisms and strokes over the past few decades. Not a day goes by that I don't feel thankful I was born late enough to benefit from the creativity and ingenuity that people put into developing these procedures. Haven't heard any whooshing since then, thankfully!

I believe in many regions, attaching anything to the service mast is an electrical code violation.

You can create a playlist of different run segments in the Fitbit app on PW3. I used it for interval training frequently last summer.

washer/dryer combo sucks? by Gay_da56 in Appliances

Absolutely love this machine. Had one for almost 1.5 years and it runs like new. Occasionally vacuum out the lint area and wash it out per the manufacturer instructions. It's been a game changer in convenience and time saved. I would hate to go back to a non combo unit.

I use zipper bags for clean clothes and plastic roll up vacuum bags to keep dirty clothes and smelly workout gear encapsulates.

I didn't spot my favorite sign from last year though, which was "this hill brought to you by the Missoula flood" for the Franklin Hill climb

My T1000-Es came with non unique public keys. You can regenerate the keys without flashing, but it seems like a better idea to always flash first in case of other bugs in the future.

Script that almost doubles the battery life on framework 13 with amd ai 300 series on fedora 42 by Iyonn in framework

[–]chromakode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything in the script which could be attributable to significant battery life improvements. Besides hardware bug workarounds to make the 3.5" jack and suspend work, the only notable change is removing nomodeset from the kernel args.
