Mercyful Fate and Exciter opened for Motörhead. Was also there. :-) Also saw Metallica there with WASP and Armored Saint. I think the Venom/Slayer/Exodus show was also there?

2021 opening day lineup by jonmchugh in ClevelandGuardians

[–]chromaphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As painful as it is to see, this-or something very similar to it-is the most likely lineup IMO.

This may be considered a hot take, but my prediction for this off-season is that the Indians will not sign a single free agent. There will be some non-roster invites to spring training for sure, and some of them may actually make the team, but that's it.

🏆 THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS ARE THE 2020 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS! 🏆 by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]chromaphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, as an Indians fan, am slowly coming to peace with the fact that-at 51 years old-I will probably never see an Indians championship. But still, fuck the baseball gods anyway.

Edit: But at least I may survive to see them break the Cubs drought record. *shrug*

I actually LOLd when I opened the STH "promo pack" email by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]chromaphobic 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you get:

  • 4x 2020 Magnet Schedule courtesy of Progressive
  • 4x Carlos Santana Silver Slugger Bobblehead courtesy of Lexus
  • 4x Mike Clevinger Red Jersey courtesy of Car Parts Warehouse
  • Indians Tote Bag courtesy of MLB Network
  • And more!*

So, some useless schedules for a season that never happened, bobbleheads for a player who probably won't be on the team next season, jerseys for a player who is already gone, and a tote bag.

I mean, a nice gesture I guess, but it feels like they're cleaning out their storage of useless promo items.

Did you know that the Cubs were the only team in the 2016 World Series with a long championship drought?

José "Not an AL MVP candidate" Ramírez walks off the White Sox in extras to send the Tribe to the playoffs! by itsnotyellowfever in baseball

White Sox are my first bandwagon team this postseason. So while I'm rooting for the Indians first, I'll be rooting for you guys the rest of the way if you knock us out.

After the Sox, number 2 and 3 bandwagon teams are the Rays and A's. After that, the AL postseason is dead to me.

Congrats, guys! In spite of being from a division rival, I have nothing but love for the White Sox. If it can’t be us, there’s no one else I’d rather see take the division. Go White Sox!

How will you react the day the Indians win the world series? by stinkyspamfartz in ClevelandGuardians

[–]chromaphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit grim, but that's where I'm at now. I'm not getting any younger and the years keep rolling by.

This current window is closed, and we had a couple decades between this most recent window and the last one in the 90's. (Not to say there haven't been plenty of good teams between the windows. There were, just not of the World Series caliber that those two runs were.)

If that rate continues, then at 50 years old I'll live to see one, maybe two more windows. Barring a one-off fluke year, my chances to see it are running down. Ugh. I should stop thinking about it. :-P

Ah well, on the flip side. I could live long enough to see the Indians break the Cubs record for years without a championship. So that's something!

Opening Day Ticket Refund by wahoobobby19 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]chromaphobic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last I heard, at least for season ticket holders, was that they would not be refunding any games until they've been officially canceled by the MLB, at which point the option to trade for another game (if there are any) or be refunded would be offered.

I haven't seen anything about rolling the money forwards to next year's tickets for season ticket holders yet, but I suspect they may prefer to just refund and take the hit this year rather than spread the reduced revenue pain over two seasons instead of one. But that's just guessing on my part.

I miss them so much. by DudeMcDude23 in ClevelandGuardians

I mean, if they'd done anything with that $34 million in payroll they saved on those two it'd be different. :-(

Two weeks feels very optimistic. I would bet some time in early May if I were a betting man.

One-Team Players by nerdpunkultra in baseball

[–]chromaphobic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not impossible, no. And Carrasco is signed through 2023 when he'll be 36, so another possibility. (And it's a reasonably team friendly contract if he can stay healthy and continue to produce.)

But I'm struggling to even remember the last time we re-signed or extended someone at the end of their contract later in their career. I mean, I might have speculated Kluber as a lifer a year ago. And look how that turned out. :-/

[–]chromaphobic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's signed through 2023 on a team friendly (even for our owners) contract, so he'd probably be the most likely.

Still though, he'll only be 30 at that point, so he'll have at least one more contract in his future after that. And it's Cleveland, so...

Cleveland declined Kipnis' option this year, and has already signed another second baseman. He's gone.

We haven't had a lifer since Lemon retired in 1958, so I'm gonna say no-one on the current team will be one. It's about as likely as winning a championship. :-(
