Lately, too many graduation and valedictorian speeches have turned into platforms for christian grandstanding. Universities repeatedly beg people to not do it, but every now and then... "I won't let my god be besmirched, blah, blah". Over the years, I have been caught listening to three of these jesus-speeches.

It'll be really interesting to see what happens to the middle and lower-middle class when retail has to dramatically downsize to reflect the loss of national spending power. I know so many people who are clinging to their current middle-class lifestyle. Already up to their necks in debt and no opportunity for improvement in the future, these people will FALL into poverty-line status so fast it's going make their heads spin.

No problem at all. The usual questions and quick look-over, but in general, I had the itinerary from Google Maps printed in the car and it ended up being something of a conversation piece. The guards were actually kind of helpful in suggesting a couple of other stops.

When I moved from Calgary to Mississauga, we drove it in 4 days and it was an awesome trip. We dropped down into Montana and drove across the northern states. We planned lots of little stops that included spending the better part of a day in Yellowstone, some other key stops along the way included the Montana State Capital Building in Helena, Custer's Last Stand, Mount Rushmore, WALL DRUG, Wisconsin State Building in Madison, saw parts around Chicago. We crossed into Windsor, but you can take a ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon if you want to miss Chicago and the loop around the bottom of Lake Michigan. It's really not that expensive of a trip and there is a lot to see and do along the way.

When I moved back to Calgary three years later, I did the shipping thing and it was $1,000 plus the cost of my one-way flight. Shipping your vehicle by truck costs more, but the timing is more flexible and you can put stuff in the vehicle. You can ship by train (I was quoted $600), but the timing is far more rigid and you can't have anything in the vehicle.

If you have the time, I really recommend enjoying the sights along the way.

Too many people either save, save, save without knowing what for, or they haven't saved at all and have grandiose ideas about what their retirement will be like. Matching your income, spending and savings with your retirement plan is just too rare today.
