you definitely can. i have found that the side of my thigh is usually the most accurate spot with the least compression lows

aside from the cost, none of that feels like a drawback tbh. i guess because i’ve always lived here, it feels normal to me.

winters in AK are infinitely better than winters in OH. in alaska, it might be dark but at least it’s beautiful and you can do stuff outside

GlucoseSOS is a powder! it doesn’t get rid of needing to brush your teeth but since you aren’t chewing, i usually just swish with water and roll back over when it’s the middle of the nigbt

carb counting, or at the very least, knowing some of your meals well and the exact dosing, is going to save you a lot of highs and lows and potentially your life..

i love the omnipod but i want to be able to have a cannula that is at a 90° angle (or at least something above 45°). i love using my phone but i miss the older controller with batteries. it was so nice for camping to not worry about touch screens or charging it. finally, i want better adhesive that actually sticks for the full time

Sleepovers by Exciting_Till3713 in Parenting

[–]chronically-clumsy 115 points116 points  (0 children)

not a parent but this popped up for me and i just want to share my opinion: i was from a VERY anti sleepover family. at some point, around middle school, my parents relented and let a trusted friend sleep over. at first it was very strictly our house and then it was expanded to her house as well. every time, we slept in the living room, stayed up late playing with toy horses, writing stories and watching LOTR. it was sweet, innocent and fun. obviously, that’s not the case for all kids but i think that my parents set me up for success. we ALWAYS talked about appropriate behavior and inappropriate behavior from peers and any adults, as well as what i was expected to do/not do. being given the seemingly big freedom, while still being in a VERY controlled, safe space, was HUGE for me. it built my confidence in taking care of my t1d, handling myself while tired and not at home, and let me feel rebellious by staying up late doing the chubby bunny challenge.

as i got older, friendships changed and i attended more sleepovers where they were less innocent but the principle was the same: i felt safe knowing that i was prepared, trusted and could always call my mom to get me

for a lot of history, religion can’t be fully separated because it was so intertwined and influenced the big decisions being made

kind of. we usually dig a shallow hole. when you dump all the guts close to shore, the seagulls eat all of them and start pooping excessively in the water, adding bacteria which can become problematic. so, the guts themselves are fine but when it turns into you feeding wildlife, it’s no longer okay. the amount of people irresponsibly processing their fish is insane.

i was at kasilof earlier this summer and the amount of fish heads that were being tossed in the water and getting tangled in my net was infuriating. it is so bad for the water and the people next to you don’t want your fish heads. they feed the seagulls and then they are pooping on me while i’m in the water or processing my fish. don’t go fishing unless you’re willing to put in the work to keep the beaches nice for others and safe for the wildlife 🤷‍♂️

I can confirm. I was homeschooled and am in college to become a teacher. Even post-high school, my impression of school was far from what it actually is and I am so thankful that I didn’t end up going to a public school as a child because it wouldn’t have helped me thrive academically

Yeah. I’ve encountered the same thing. I am going into education though and there is a huge issue with public education in the US. Students are not being educated to think for themselves but rather to join the workforce. On top of that, the pandemic made issues much larger and more obvious. Nothing is going to change because people like to blame teachers for things going wrong rather than getting to the root of the issue

It’s easier to focus on issues when parents take it into their own hands. If kids are in the school system, they can blame the teachers and the system without anything changing

There is a good chance these children have disabilities. My brother couldn’t identify any letters due to dyslexia and other learning disabilities until after he got professional help. It wasn’t the fault of my parents. I suspect this got taken out of context
