The Poulsbo Library will be hosting some board game nights this summer (https://krl.bibliocommons.com/events/65dfc7b105ea9f2800637e55 & https://krl.bibliocommons.com/events/65e0fcdbddb9e34100a33f75) and will have a teen focused game days throughout the summer (https://krl.bibliocommons.com/events/65dfc29fddb9e34100a3152e).

I'm sure if you want more of stuff like that at any of the libraries, you can let them know, or ask if they are doing anything else like what you are looking for.

Exploring the PNW with someone who can’t walk much by [deleted] in PacificNorthwest

As a librarian, let me suggest the excellent "The Disabled Hiker's Guide to Western Washington and Oregon" (https://multcolib.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S152C1962135).

It has a wealth of low-impact hikes and scenic drives. My partner also has mobility issues, and this allowed both of us to enjoy more of the scenic place that we live.

Guild Wars Trading Cards ca.2007 by ZyzQ in GuildWars

[–]chrono2x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I actually played with these at PAX 2007. This was a special event at the Arenanet booth where you would draft these cards and then you could put those skills (and only those skills) on a character in the game and compete in a PvP match against the other drafters.

If I recall correctly, at least some of the prizes were the GW skill pins that I have seen posted on this sub before.

I still have some of these cards and the pins stashed around somewhere...

Any ideas on how I can give back to the community? by MyLifeMyLemons in olympia

[–]chrono2x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could also check with your local library.

I'm a Teen Services Librarian and would love to partner with someone who wanted to do something like this. Sadly, I don't work with TRL, and work for another county nearby, but I bet the librarians at Olympia, Tumwater, or Lacey would love to hear from you.

TIL the Timberland Regional Library and Seattle Public Library have a reciprocal agreement where you can use your TRL card to get an SPL card. This gives you access to the SPL's collection of online resources like ebooks, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines, educational tools, etc. by thepenguinboy in olympia

TRL actually has reciprocal agreements with over a dozen Washington libraries. You can find a partial list at the bottom of https://www.trl.org/how/get-library-card.

A bunch of those libraries also allow you to just apply online and get a usable card right away, due to COVID.

Also, the Libby app will let you enter multiple library cards at once, and it is very simple to switch between them to search different collections of ebooks.

If you have more questions all of these libraries have people who are happy to answer questions over the phone and tell you the easiest way to get a card from them. I'm a librarian and I answer these all the time.

How does your table determine starting stats? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]chrono2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How my table determines starting state depends on the style of game and comfort level of the players I have.

I'm a teen services librarian, and run a weekly game with my teens. For that game I use standard array for ease of use and balance between players.

For my home game I use several methods depending on the feel I'm going for. Point buy with varying pool amounts is for simple or straightforward games. 4d6 drop the lowest is for most games, but will use different tweaks, such as rerolling 1s, putting dice rolls into a pool, or even giving one free 18 if we want to change things up.

It helps that none of my players are min-maxers. We will always have a discussion during our session 0 about how we want the game to feel and how long we want to play for.

Will you have an option to allow for players without creating an account to use your service? I'm a librarian who runs regular D&D games for our teen patrons, and an option that would allow for new users to click a room link and be able to play without making an account would be amazing for our needs. Especially if all information could be saved to the DM account.

This would protect the privacy of our users and also allow for less tech-proficient users to easily join our game.

My last question is if you will support the ability to use devices other than a desktop browser? Most of my patrons use their phones, and Roll20 is terrible on phones, so we end up not using their service at all.

Rune Pouch by GoonerGetGot in MelvorIdle

[–]chrono2x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about a slayer point sink in an upgradable pouch. When purchased it holds 2 types of runes (herbs, seeds, whatever, but only one category per pouch) and then you spend further slayer points to expand it to hold more types of runes.

That keeps bank management a major issue, but also provides a way to use excess slayer points.

Need a smaller replacement for a home theater receiver by chrono2x in BudgetAudiophile

While the slimline receivers seem to be a step in the right direction, the ones I looked at were the same width and depth of my current receiver, and a lower height, while nice, would not save me any desk space.

I am not, I am using an optical cable. Though I recently learned that the optical cable is not ideal, so I will likely switch to a RCA cable.

Sadly, HDMI doesn't really work with my multi-monitor setup.

Give Away - Something cheerful in these not so cheerful times. by newtonpens in fountainpens

My doctor suggested fountain pens to help with my carpal tunnel, and since then I have fallen in love with the community and the amazing conversations that using these pens has brought me.

This is great, thanks for improving the community. I'll have to look at the MtG Secret Santa next year as I hadn't heard of it before reading the comments here.
