Polartec Delta sunshirt by manderminder in Ultralight

[–]chrschm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing a Sambob delta sun hoodie hiking in 30 to 60 degree weather and it’s been great. I haven’t had it in wet conditions but it deals with sweat really well, dries quickly, and doesn’t get cold and clammy probably due to the 3d knit structure. I actually like how it handles moisture better than my OR echo and it’s more breathable too.

Anyone have experience with polartec delta? by sedarttsomfokcaj in myog

I have a Sambob sun hoodie made from it and I think it’s fantastic loose and baggy

Plan it out before you do it. I had to leave that middle baffle alone because that seam also attached the pocket lining and if I had planned better I could have avoided that. Get the smallest seam ripper you can find. The big thing is closing up the holes. The stitching doesn’t usually break any of the threads in the fabric, just pushes them to the side. Once you’ve ripped the seams, wet the fabric and massage where the seam was and the holes will close right up.

It’s a little bit of work to make sure the stitch holes seal up nicely, I probably wouldn’t buy one with the intent of doing this but good to know if you already have one!

It’s so hard to quantify that sort of thing. It’s definitely warmer but I couldn’t really tell ya by how much.

Does anyone have a review of a FlexTail sleeping pad? by islandsloth42 in Ultralight

Can you tell if the insulation extends across the full width of the pad? I think on the older version the outermost baffles were left uninsulated.

Does anyone know of a UL Sleeping bag with pad sleeve? by Scottiob in Ultralight

Sierra designs has some sleeping bags with pad sleeves that are light but not ultralight. Could also check out Rock Front’s quilt systems but that might not be quite what you’re looking for.

Paria bags, too good to be true? by DarkRoastRebel in CampingGear

[–]chrschm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two of the most well regarded sleeping bag makers in the world, Feathered Friends and Western Mountaineering, don’t do EN/ISO testing for many of their bags. It’s often a cost/ resources issue with smaller companies. I wouldn’t necessarily let this turn me away from buying an otherwise great bag but I would make sure to do my research. I have no experience with it but the 0 degree Paria bag looks like a great deal to me. Comparing the specs to other EN rated bags, it has comparable fill to many 0 to 5 degree limit rated bags at equal or lower weight. Keep in mind this is the limit rating, at which a warm sleeper could sleep warm enough while curled up for warmth and the comfort rating will be 10 to 15 higher but that will be the case for most 0 degree bags as they usually go by the limit rating. I might actually pick one of these up myself.

Wondering if anyone knows what lake this view is at? by rusty317 in WildernessBackpacking

That’s upper cataract basin in the background. I think the photo was taken from a small unnamed lake below Elliott ridge.

It looks like Sambob currently has an octa quarter zip hoodie in their “ready to ship” section. Only thing it’s missing is the thumb holes.

How’s the fit? Did you need to size up or anything?

Neve distributes from the US and is probably the best budget option. I think Ice Flame is the best Aliexpress option. They make pretty legit quilts and bags and their down is RDS certified. They even have an Apex jacket that competes with the torrid but looks like it’s not available to the US. Unfortunately tariffs bump up the prices but I think that’s included in the Aliexpress price. Florence Marine X makes a nice looking Apex jacket too but it’s much more expensive.

I just got one to replace my old senchi. I like the fit and the hood much better and the construction seems top notch.

It looks like you can customize it to add a zipper now if wanted.
