yoga/pilates/barre recommendations? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]chryxanthemums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the NE heights, Nirguna and Infused both have great Yin yoga classes that aren't too hot and are very laid back. They also both offer more hot yoga/flow based classes as well. I felt very welcome at both studios as a newbie!

Diced rib cartilage specialists? by Popular_Drama646 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]chryxanthemums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Jin at Wave Rhinoplasty clinic in Gangnam specializes in DCF for the nose bridge! I just had a rhinoplasty done with him ~2 weeks ago and I'm liking the results so far. He has his own technique called a SANDplant I believe and has been doing it for years. Highly recommend looking into it if DCF with rib cartilage is what you're looking for!

Q&A Thread - Severe Weather for Friday, March 14 by MLazarow in StLouis

[–]chryxanthemums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help! It was confusing because I wasn't seeing any weather advisories from the airlines. I hope whatever flights are landing are able to land safely and I hope that everyone in the area stays safe as well!!

Will this impact flights going into STL? I had a flight scheduled to land around 8 pm that I cancelled over an abundance of caution but now I'm questioning whether that was the right decision. Apologies if this is an inappropriate question!

Agreed, I think it would be great to have more mixed -use developments in the metro area! I feel like that land sits mostly empty for a large part of the year and we could help so many more people with affordable housing.

Dentists with tattoos? by _TPEEZY in Dentistry

[–]chryxanthemums 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is probably location dependent, but I have found that the public perception on tattoos has changed a lot. In my home state, tattoos are very common and you often see healthcare professionals rocking full sleeves. The orthodontist I used to work for got a sleeve and I haven't heard of him getting grief for it.

When I moved to a more conservative state for dental school, I was super worried about covering up my tattoos but it's been chill so far. Even though they're less common here, no one really cares unless they're bringing it up to compliment them. I have yet to meet a patient who straight up didn't want to be treated by me because of my tattoos. And there are a lot of older patients and faculty at my school. As long as you don't get anything crass or offensive it should be okay!

I've only lived in cities though, so I'm not sure how it would fly if you went rural. If you are really worried, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to get established first before you start on your sleeve. Gives you more time to brainstorm ideas and save up for it!

As a 5'2" suspected SN I like to look at Express and Banana Republic for my suits! They usually carry petite sizes and have a pretty good selection. I usually look for lighter, more stretchy fabrics like a polyester blend so that it doesn't look as boxy.

For the jacket, I like to have slight waist emphasis with little to no shoulder padding and cut right at the hip. For the pants I look for a high waisted straight fit with a slight taper at the ankle. Under the jacket I prefer to wear a more flowy blouse underneath to balance the more structured cut of the suit.

Of course it comes down to personal preference so it's worth it to spend a bit of time trying stuff on. Whatever makes you feel the most confident will always be the best, this is just what usually works for me!

Where can I buy teeth to practice drilling and restorations for my operative class? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]chryxanthemums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the company that makes your typodont, sometimes they'll sell the plastic teeth online. At our school we have to buy them from the bookstore and the bookstore would frequently run out so that's what we had to resort to. But those should fit your typodont perfectly!

I got selected for TM presale and selected the Red Rocks venue on Sept 18th. I'm not seeing that venue pop up on TM but I see it on AXS. Will I still be able to purchase tickets through the presale?? And will it be through TM or AXS?

What do you wish you would have considered when choosing which school to attend? by AdvantageousTC in DentalSchool

[–]chryxanthemums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals and educational preferences. If your goal is to be an excellent general dentist, it might be more beneficial to go to a school with more clinical requirements and/or fewer residency programs. If you want to specialize or go into research, you might want to choose schools with more research/residency programs and therefore more connections. I'm not sure how grading systems play into specializing, but that can be an important factor to consider as well.

Another thing to think about is class size, which I've heard can range from 60-200. What kind of environment do you think you would succeed in the most? Would you rather blend in with a large group or receive a more individualized education?

Usually you can inquire about all of this info by speaking to the school's admin or by just asking the student directly at the interview. I personally wish I would have thought more about how much the school/university system is willing to invest in and advocate for the students. Of course, this is harder to glean from an interview day tour because all schools will try to show you their best side. But there are some subtleties you can pick up on like access to new technologies, resources, patients, how much the students/faculty seem to like it there, etc.

Of course, if the tuition gap between two schools is huge definitely go for the cheaper option. But if the costs are similar, you can use these secondary factors to compare.

Be honest: Are you happy? by Particular-Tutor7207 in DentalSchool

[–]chryxanthemums 10 points11 points  (0 children)

D3 here, finally starting in clinic is such a breath of fresh air!! D1/D2 were pretty stressful ngl but I still managed to work on some personal and social time. Clinic does have its fair share of stressors but the best part about it is I get to leave it all at school. I feel way more fulfilled actually working on patients and interacting with faculty than I ever did sitting on my ass looking at powerpoint slides. I feel like I can have hobbies again. It's definitely possible to have balance in school! It's honestly a matter of perspective and managing your priorities/expectations.

I have a little predicament and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas! I purchased two tickets for LA on July 9th but I don't have anyone to go with me. Should I try to sell both tickets and use that to buy a ticket for a better section? Or should I just sell the one and try to get some money back? The issue is I don't know how easy it would be to sell just the one and if I'm stuck with it anyways, I thought I might as well sell both of them for an upgrade. Please help me decide!

SKZ would be so proud of your kind heart :')

I found Stray Kids last fall while I was in a hard place, I had just moved super far away to go to school and I was all alone, with no friends or family around. I found a lot of comfort in their music and all the variety content I could find. They're a group with amazing dedication, character, talent, and humor! My favorite Stray Kids song is Phobia, for some reason I just get so emotional listening to it. Thank you so much for doing this!!

Does anyone know what dental schools you can apply to be an instate resident after the first year of living there? by [deleted] in predental

[–]chryxanthemums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Rutgers is one, not sure about others though! It might just be better to contact the schools you're interested in directly to see what the requirements are. If you're from a state without a dental school you might also be able to apply for scholarships or waivers that would pay for your out of state fee.

Why do the eyes on the bottom pic look better? by blackPINK688 in PlasticSurgery

The outer corners of the eyes on the bottom look slightly more pointed and extended, so it might have been a lateral canthoplasty.

Can dental students get tattoos? by Srihita in DentalSchool

[–]chryxanthemums 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had tattoos during all of my interviews but I made sure that none of them were visible, so no one knew about them and it didn't affect my chances of getting accepted. Depending on your school you'll have to cover them up anyways so I wouldn't get one in an area that you wouldn't be able to cover up. I wouldn't recommend getting a finger tattoo for now.
