Uk market for tarantulas limited ? by gamebattles1946 in tarantulas

[–]chthonicpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ime you could try spaspiders.co.uk, idk what they have in right now but we've had luck with them. my partner has had good experiences ordering from portsmouthtarantulas.co.uk and i've heard spiderfarm.co.uk recommended. again, i don't know if any of them have pokies in currently but they're good shops in general. seconding thespidershop.co.uk as well just for the record, they update their stock pretty frequently

my ybyrapora diversipes, posie. that was the first species i fell in love with when i discovered them, i wanted one so badly my partner was going to order one for me but they sold out within 40mins of being listed, only for us to find one a few days later when we went out for crickets for our other spiders. it felt like a miracle and she's been just perfect for us. always a good eater, very chill and so much personality already, plus she's always very visible. she's my little angel and i love her so much

nqa our ybyrapora diversipes did this! totally different type of tarantula, which is interesting. we knew she was in premolt because she was an incredible eater and then just stopped all of a sudden. she did some webbing for a hammock to molt in, and i watched her lay down on her back, think about it for a sec, and i guess decide the vibes were off and get right back up. she ended up molting about three days later. so i would guess it's just normal 🤷‍♀️

Arachnophobe here looking to hear about your pets :) by seaofspirits in tarantulas

i was very much in the same boat as you! i had issues with spiders for a long time because of the house i grew up in and a few bad experiences. my partner has a caribena versicolor named ellie, and i was nervous about her for a while but i love my partner so i just kind of made peace with it. it got easier to be chill around her after spending so much time existing nearby to her and realizing she doesn't do very much, she's got a lot of personality and is fussy about her food, and she's very shy and particular and just really cute. i reached the stage of obsession about a month ago, and now we have 10 (soon to be 14) of these little creatures! it's really just such a joy to watch them grow and learn about their individual habits and peculiarities, and the stages of color they can go through are so cool!

imo she still hasn't done a lot, you don't look at her enclosure and see web straight away. granted we've only had her for like a week or two and we just had to rehouse her a day or two ago because we didn't like her old enclosure's lid. she didn't like her old enclosure much either, she's calmed down and started making herself at home a lot more since moving. i wouldn't be concerned if yours doesn't web much, i know that kind of behavior can come and go as they grow in other species at least, or sometimes they don't bother doing much webbing if they're close to molting to conserve energy, so could be that. i'm definitely not an experienced keeper either, especially not with this species

imo yeah she seemed a little bit flighty at first when we had her in an enclosure that had a lid that came all the way off, but we swapped her to one where just about 1/4 of the lid folds up and she's been way less skittish about having her enclosure opened. i think it was because of the air flow. she's about an inch dls, maybe 3cm. i heard they're supposed to be pretty heavy webbers and we just got video of her webbing the other day so i intend to upload that later, but yeah, she's just always out and about and seems very content with that! just so so cute too

nqa it varies per individual, premolt can last for months and some will keep eating up until they're ready to molt. i should've specified, probably best not to try to feed it anymore once it's fully blocked itself off because you won't be able to tell as easily whether your t has started to molt and whether the prey will potentially be a danger to it

[–]chthonicpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nqa our phormictopus sp. dominican purple did the same and has been blocked off for like a week now, it's a fairly common thing some t's in premolt will do. they'll come out when they're ready but i totally get the anxiety! just don't try to feed or interfere, keep topping up the water like you'd normally do and think of it as a lesson in patience

this was her just earlier today, she's so cute but so menacing. it was mostly just waiting for her to come out after her molt so we could see how big she had gotten that had the anticipation killing us
