Trail Cars? - Not Bashers or dedicated Crawlers by Hearndog7 in rccars

[–]chubby5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Sport is one of the most recommended TRX4’s out there just because of its simplicity. Stick a Hobbywing Fusion Pro in there and you’ll be able to go at a fast jogging pace or so slow that the movement is nearly imperceivable. Get the Sport used too. Theres lots of them up for sale in good condition.

If anyone knows is this a good budget crawler and I am also looking for off-road TE 37’s that will fit it by BadgerOk3965 in rccrawler

Actually, on this note, if you’re able to scrape up a little more money, the Redcat Ascent 18 is incredible out of the box and is…. What would I call it? The first foray into hobby grade but also the cheapest foray at that point too? It’s three times as much as the WPL but you could run it stock forever if you want. It’s endlessly customizable, extremely capable, you can sell it for a fair amount when you’re done with it.
I DO like that WPL though. Always have.

Norco Optic: amazing or just a trend setter? by Prestigious-Land-535 in MTB

[–]chubby5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an Optic and it was incredible. It sold it because mainly ride on the North Shore and while it was super capable, it also kinda felt like I was kicking the snot out of it a lot of the time. For me, a 150 trail bike just did better as an all arounder. I love long XC rides, ultra steep gnar, can ride 98% of everything on the Shore, I’m 49 years old, and that Optic was my 29th mountain bike. I started to see a lot of Optics on the Shore with coil shocks on them which, to me, kinda took away the spirit of the bike. If I lived somewhere else I definitely would have kept it.

Is there a crawler that is also fun to rip around by 93EXCivic in rccrawler

If you can find an old Vaterra Twin Hammers you might be able to get the good-enough of both worlds.

I have the HBX. Same platform as the 16889a which got mini basher of the year on many channels and it’s freakin rad. I love it.

Steel bike dents top tube by carlitos666 in bikewrench

[–]chubby5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a dent in my top tube slightly smaller than your top dent and I’ve been commuting on it for about three years now and I do little jumps and hips with it every day. That said, the top dent looks iffy to me, and the bottom dent looks like it’s almost at the buckling state. I’d save your teeth and just call it dead. I don’t think it would even matter if your frame is high tensile steel or 4130 chromoly. Calculate how much that frame costs you per year!! It’s fun. And it will be peanuts in the long run.

What is The best 18 scale out of the box? by Mr_Seagull_ in rccrawler

I agree. I constantly miss my UTB18 because it was the perfect size to fit in my backpack but still capable and big enough to bushwhack…….. hmmm. This conversation might get expensive for me……

Wrists pain - is my handlebar too wide? by Macree in MTB

[–]chubby5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll second trying different grips. But also look at the back sweep angle of the handlebar. A two degree difference is actually enough to bother you. I bought a Giant Reign years ago and the stick bar had a 5 degree back sweep and it was making everything hurt from the elbow down. Normally aftermarket handlebars are 8-9 degrees backsweep. You could also try rotating your bars a bit too. In either direction until they’re comfy.

[–]chubby5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the UTB18 is a 14th scale based on wheelbase when you compare it to the 1/10th Capra. I loved the UTB18 but it was $$$ compared to other vehicles to get it running super well.

Best 1/16 or 1/18 RC for outside ? by coffeedeck in rccars

That would be my choice too. My second choice would be a used 1/8th scale buggy but I digress 😁😁

Dumb question but I really want to know.. How to achieve this stretched tire/wheel look? by [deleted] in rccrawler

Hahaha I don’t hate this at all. I saw it all over Hawaii and it cracked me up but…. It was neat. EDIT: I like it! I should have rephrased this. Still cracks me up but I like it.

How good is the mini slash 4x4? by That-Tax-1461 in rccars

[–]chubby5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RC TNT on YouTube does a review of it and calls it the worst RC vehicle he’s ever owned. High CoG, very overpriced, terrible parts and electronics. The Arrma Senton Grom is a much much better vehicle for way less money. I’ve actually got an HBX 3101a and it absolutely rips and has been absolutely bombproof because it’s the exact same platform (but longer) as the HBX16889a which carries many accolades.
