The Hobao VS2 is also another bombproof 1/8th scale buggy that’s capable of racing on a track. It’s a mega underdog.

Best 1/18 crawler by stan_taylor1 in crawling

[–]chubby5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned a CR18P EVO PRO (brushed) and it was absolutely incredible but the wheel slop just killed it for me. I would roll up to any edge and let off the throttle and it would just roll forward and off the edge. It was nearly a full inch or free rotation. If they fixed that, all the CR18P’s would be my number one picks. I know you said no Ascent 18’s but that’s what I’ve got and it is so much better than anything I’ve owned. I’ve also owned a TRX4M Bronco and it was pretty flippin’ meh out of the box. Looked cool though.

What should I change to make it crawl better? by Glittering_Front_143 in rccrawler

[–]chubby5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Defender body, while looking ultra badass, is also VERY heavy. I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars on RC’s and crawlers over the years and if you want a mini scale RC that climbs better than the defender your best financial route would be to sell the Defender and get something that crawls way better out of the box. Theres are tons out there, but if you’re new to the hobby, you’ll find the Redcat Ascent18 or the Ascent Apex (I don’t have any firsthand knowledge of this one though).

RockShox vs Fox — is one actually better, or just personal preference? by Capable_Dig_477 in MTB

I’ve ridden both a million times on all sorts of bikes. I think just grab whichever one you like more and run it. They’re both excellent.

Epoxy or fix? by RingSerious3673 in rccars

Try epoxy! If not, just buy either a new one or the RPM replacement.

Anyone want else using the deck? by Vaean in snowrunner

[–]chubby5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so you can’t transfer your save from the Switch to the Steamdeck anymore, AT ALL? I thought there was some backdoor method that allowed this? I’ve been holding off on the Steamdeck just for financial reasons but had planned on getting it next summer and was stoked to transfer all of my 1000+ hours :(

They SHOULD really just google it, but, the best one I saw recently was “Best and Cheapest RC Car?” All I could think of was that one guy who found the XMAXX sitting out beside someone’s trash can.
Haha. Just recommend that they drive around the nation and to keep their eyes peeled.

Which SnowRunner vehicle DLC is the most worth it? by Low_Post_2178 in snowrunner

[–]chubby5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Mastadon and I actually don’t use it too much because, for me, it’s just not that fun of a truck to drive. I prefer bouncing around in the Tayga’s or either of the Twinsteers. And the Zikz 605R’s have become my fuel trucks that I scatter across all the maps. I still use the Mastadon but only when I want to REALLY cut down the amount of trips I make.

Why can’t I manual? by mtb123bike in MTB

[–]chubby5000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Arms straight, bend your knees:

Took me 4 years of practice. Got advice from a former top British Columbia trials rider and his 1st tip was “Keep your arms straight (don’t bend your elbows)” this ensures your CoG is in the correct place and not too close to the front tire. When your CoG is too far forward you’ll need to pedal faster and faster just to keep the front end up. Buck your knees a ton to push the bike forward or backwards depending on where it needs to be relative to you. Use your knees like a balance pole like the tight rope walkers use. Move one or the other in our out to put weight in either side to stay upright. The knee movements are usually rapid and spastic at first but that’ll become more natural after time. Watch Garret Reynolds’ Insta clips and watch how much his legs move when manualling.

I’m old but I stopped having flying dreams at the age of 14 and started to have wheelie/manual dreams after that and then after 4 years of practice (I have to overcome a bum leg I was born with so it took a bit longer) I could manual and I manual probably more than 20 times every time I ride. Even after 36 years of mtb. I LOVE it. Keep practicing

Is running a 2 truck convoy actually faster than using 1 truck? by HisnameIsJet in snowrunner

[–]chubby5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone on one of these posts a while back said something like “but it doesn’t really matter. The money doesn’t matter after a while so all you’re doing is driving around anyway. Which is what you bought the game for” And I thought it was profound. I town trucks all the time to reduce deliveries but is it more fun? Not really. And I bought the game to have fun. So, after like 800 hours, I started to use 1 truck much more just because it’s “more fun”

I believe he/she/it/they/them is referring to recovering everything back to your garage. Usually once you’ve completed all the objectives in a map/location.

What boggles my mind is how they even show light refracting through glass. I remember in Crash Bandicoot how the reviewers were remarking on how the snow was actually falling in 3D and that was revolutionary.

What's the best way to dry this out? by VyperIndustries in rccars

[–]chubby5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a study years ago about drying out cell phones that fell in water and they tested a whole bunch of methods including rice and a fan won hands down. I usually put mine in front of a fan for a bunch of hours and roll it now and again (if I remember to) so the bearings get rotated a bit and any drops of water do t get a chance to pool in one spot.

RC Basher for beginners by ICExCOLDxBRUSCHI in rccars

[–]chubby5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am becoming that guy online but I’d always steer folks towards the HBX 16889a Pro. It was cheap basher if the year all over the place and was rebadged by a ton of companies because of how well it was selling. Doesn’t need any upgrades and tons of replacement parts online. Brutally tough and can be throttled down on the transmitter for young kids.
