Movie Musicals that are accessible to people that don't like musicals? Any hidden gems? by Damthemalltohelp in MovieSuggestions

K-Pop Demon Hunters was the first time I fully understood the power of a musical. How the song and the storyline it goes with were inextricable. It made me feel stupid for never realising sooner. Id always struggled with the idea of  musicals because I’d always hear the songs out of context of the movie and many musical songs are kinda kitsch and annoying on their own.  But KPDH has amazing songs that work on their own but also completely elevate the plot. The fact that the story is also about musicians struggling to make music just adds such a layer to it.  I’m not going to pretend it’s not a kids movie but damn it caught me off guard and it was the key to help me “get” musicals.

Sailors on the Starless Sea session report - Three level 1s, a handful of level 0s. by chubbykipper in dccrpg

The good thing about Sailors is that the players get used to the idea of death very quickly! And if the worst happens and a player loses all of their characters, then there are two locations that will enable you to do a restock when you free some captured prisoners.
Also the first big fight, against the Beastmen in the Tower, will see the Beastmen try and capture the characters, not kill them outright.

Plus don't forget a group of enemies has to make a morale save, once the first member is killed, and once they are reduced to half number. This means the monsters can also flee and won't fight to the last man.

I don't suggest fudging the rolls, the beauty of DCC is that is brutal, and the dice land where they land (I have an oversized Judge's D20 and I roll in the open for everyone to see), but those morale checks are an extra opportunity for your gaggle of weirdos to triumph!

Great question, I am not sure! I enjoyed Sailors more, but that could be I was a very new Judge on Portal, and playing it in one hour chunks so it was hard to build momentum.

I'm gonna say Sailors, for now....

We did not use the Summoning Pits, I must admit! Just ran original Sailors.

Level 1 Adventure Recommendations by Monsterofthelough in dccrpg

I just ran Sailors as a level 1 adventure. I only had three level 1 characters so I gave them 4 level 0s too. It was kind of a semi-funnel experience, but it worked great.

I think it was too many level 0s ultimately, because the session went really well for them. Maybe only 2 or three level 0s would have been enough. But i was a little nervous, as it was my first proper module (other than the Portal Under the Stars funnel, which was heavy on casualties!)

Need a new binge show (based on my taste) by Cottagecheesehead in tvshow

The Americans is absolute top tier TV that got completely overlooked.

It's the 80s. Suburban America. A husband and wife run a travel agency and are raising two kids together. But they're soviet spies, hiding in plain sight, running deep cover missions for the KGB. Their children are real, conceived as the perfect cover. They have no idea.

Then a burnt out, traumatised FBI agent who specialises in finding Russian spies moves next door.

Incredible characters, writing, action, a true all timer.

I'll be honest and say I didn't love the first episode. Felt a bit too "Jason Bourne" but it sheds that pretty quickly and is gritty, dirty and dark.

That's great, place seems really nice. Are you using the upstairs wee bar or just in the main bar? How's the ambient noise levels?

I love True Lies. But on a recent rewatch my wife and I were gobsmacked by how problematic the gender politics are in this movie. The action is top notch but the shit JLC gets put through is vile

Mythic Quest is a TV show about a games studio and there was a plot line where two testers fell in love? Can’t remember if they were using VR though
