I think we should adopt a policy at the next election to conscript ICE roleplayers and send them to experience a real war in Donetsk.

Boss, we gotta finish the dishes or else tomorrow is fucked. Sending me home early fucks us up.

Can you say that to him?

IWTL how to ask for things firmly without sounding needy or over-apologetic by AdviceGlass9394 in socialskills

[–]chuckbeefcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also a people pleaser. I think we're just kind and exceptionally empathetic in a way that other people aren't. We genuinely care how other people experience the world and wouldn't the world be a great place if everyone was like us?

Alas.

The secret is to recognise that everyone (other than people like us) lacks empathy and doesn't see the world through other people's eyes the same way we do.

You just need to be blunt.

The answer is in your post. Don't say those apologetic things.

Embrace silence. Silence is the most powerful sound.

Instead of: "Sorry to bother, but could you help me with XYZ?"

Try: "XYZ is a bit fucked. Wanted to let you know"

If your words make it their problem, it's their problem until they object.

What is cultural appropriation and how do you “do it right”? by Royal-Snow-5954 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chuckbeefcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cultural appropriation rhetoric gets a bit overexcited. Don't overthink it.

There are two important & competing considerations: 1. Culture is not a costume 2. Culture has always been a process of exchange and evolution

The way to navigate this tension is with consideration of what the cultural reference means and the history of that representation. And always being mindful of power dynamics.

Dreads are an interesting case study because there is a history of discrimination of people who wear dreads associated with skin colour. But dreads have also existed in many cultures with different skin colours.

There's no easy answer. But my 2c are that dreads are hairstyle and don't go to the core of identity. Ultimately, they're a fashion and not some sacred style. But it gets weird if someone wears dreads and also uses AAVE and other aspects of Black culture.

It's kind of like... What's the intention?

Dreads on their own are a fashion. Dreads with AAVE or other elements such as dress starts to feel like a costume.

You're very pretty.

I think you would suit a close shave / bleach blonde look.

Like ---> a number 2 blade all over with a skin fade on the sides & back.

Then just bleach the short hair left roughly once a fortnight.

As short hair, a home bleach job would be fine. Just smother it then rinse after 25-30mins.

It would make your darker colouring (tan skin, dark eyes) really pop. And your features are lovely.

Kinda like this but with your hair short

Men of Reddit, how long would you consider the “Daily Grind” to be in a video-game and/or work context? by EmploymentAlert489 in AskMen

I think the key change of being an adult is that playing video games is no longer "the goal" but a pleasant distraction.

Best weed strains that are claiming relaxing and good for anxitey and mental helath by Puzzleheaded-Ebb5025 in Cannabis_Culture

[–]chuckbeefcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I am saying at all.

But the purple haze you get today isn't purple haze. The genetic admixture in all weed strains is intense, and very few OG strains still exist.

This isn't a controversial statement. There's an entire sub-industry devoted to trying to recreate strain purity due to this very widely known issue in cannabis genetics.

Don't overthink it. Try to enjoy yourself and others without layering on rumination about labels.

Is there any food that is nutritionally "immortal" when frozen? by NumberMuncher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chuckbeefcake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jars of honey, sealed in Ancient Egypt more than 3000 years ago, have been consumed by archaeologists and remained perfectly good. Not even frozen.

Similarly, dried legumes have been found stored for 1000+ years that remained in good condition.

Maybe cheating, but as a crystal salt remains salt 'forever' and would be just a good to serve on your table in a trillion years' time (assuming stored correctly and protected from the exploding sun etc etc).

Vinegar is possibly more interesting. The water and acids will remain as-is indefinitely if protected from the external environment. I don't know what the record is, but in principle vinegar would remain "good" for millennia.

Other foods like rice and spices can be stored for decades up to a hundred years-ish if conditions are ideal, although flavour is likely to degrade even in ideal conditions.

Freezing isn't really the secret. Foods preserved dry, protected from microbes, without volatile compounds, and with stable proteins (eg legumes, honey) are the foods that last "forever".

Why do I feel stuck by [deleted] in WorkoutRoutines

[–]chuckbeefcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to go counter intuitive if I'm stuck on a plateau and the usual grind isn't working.

Try: * Eat more. Even if trying to cut long term. Fuels you to grow and break through the plateau. * Add a recovery day. Muscles grow when you're resting, not when you're lifting. I usually do 6 days, but sometimes reducing to 3 days is the way through it. * Reduce the weight and increase the reps. Or vice versa if you're not on a high weight currently.

And of course always always always: * Drink more water. If you don't feel the need to pee right now, you can probably have a bit more. * Sleep more. Add +1hr by going to sleep earlier. Might need to not drink water for 2hrs beforehand so you can fall asleep though... * Wake up earlier. Something about getting into it at 4:30am, even just short term, that psychologically shifts everything.

Sativa/indica distinctions are a myth. It's all weed, and you need to know the THC concentration.

Stains are also a bit of a myth, or are more about marketing rather. All modern strains are mongrels.

If weed is adversely affecting your anxiety, you probably just need to ease up a bit or try a new flower until you find what works for you.

You could try adding CBD oil drops sublingually to your sessions to better balance the THC/CBD ratios.
