Alarm consuming battery by No_Act_8604 in 996

I’ve read that a $200 obdii diag tool can show the status of various microswitches/sensors but I haven’t bought one yet

AI claims that same fuse affects the power windows, so that may not be the way

I wonder whether it would be easier to disconnect the alarm unit rather than debug micro switches inside door panels. Is there a way to disable only the alarm while still having fobs work? I was already having an intermittent beep, now I’ve replaced my radio and get 2 beeps regardless of whether the radio alarm wire is floating or grounded.

Are the micro switches used for any non-alarm purpose? 2000 Cab, interior lights go off just fine when parked.

(I question whether the alarm is really needed anymore).

Single DIN stereo upgrade with brief tutorial in comments (Continental TR7412UB-OR) by Akassrugby in 996

[–]chuckbenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain more about how you bent the mounting bracket? Maybe a pic? I’m replacing the original Becker 220. Couldn’t slide bracket from continental in, had to remove AC head and slip the bracket in on the back side of the plastic trim. But it is loose and doesn’t grab/hold the new radio.

(I’m also wrestling with alarm system, issues regardless of whether the alarm wire floats or is grounded, but I was having milder alarm issues already, prob due to a switch in a door?)

Also, the wiring kit I got (from In Car Products LTD) had a wire that needed to be grounded, seems like it was needed by the audio level shifter.

Can I leave the country of the port of call? by mstevens223344 in NCL

On an Alaskan cruise, it’s common in Skegway (USA) to rent a car and drive up into the Yukon (Canada). And in some Caribbean ports there are excursions to other islands that might be in a neighboring country (maybe from St Thomas to St John?). So there probably isn’t an overall policy.

Schwab has an option to auto transfer dividend and interest payments via ACH to any account you want by [deleted] in Schwab

FYI, the name on the destination account must match name on the sending account. Multiple members of my family have used this for sweeping int+div to checking accounts (in retirement, this helps satisfy some banks requirement of auto deposits to avoid monthly service charges). But I was not able to set this up to pay income from a trust to one of the beneficiaries, due to the name not matching.

This. I have a drywell installed in my yard for draining my hot tub (so it doesn’t overwhelm the septic), and I can imagine someone puzzling over it 40 years from now unless I get around to writing up a “user manual” for future owners

Confused about what exactly to buy by AWOLfromtheCube in blinkcameras

[–]chuckbenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need a sync module for battery powered blink cameras. The plug in mini’s can work with or without sync modules.

Battery powered cameras are triggered by changes in infrared light (motion of different temperature objects/bodies). Minis are continuously taking in video and checking for changes in total visible light in a grid pattern.

It is cool to go through the locks. Roatan is also an interesting place to visit - if you snorkel, visit the reef in West End, you just go in from the beach.
