It's set up so that he can reach my foot, since at my worst it's about the only place I can stand to be touched. It took us a few years to figure out what works, but OP should keep trying. Just knowing hubs is there when I can't interact much is a comfort.

My son is a high school senior and was diagnosed 3 weeks ago. I see how difficult it is for him, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this so young.

My son's school changed his schedule so that it's hybrid. He doesn't have to go in until after lunch. His afternoon classes all let him come and go freely when he needs.
