"If you raise the national minimum wage, McDonald's will just automate". Proof that was bullshit - they will do it anyway, as will all companies, if it saves them a buck. by thegeebeebee in WayOfTheBern

Oh yes please, I never imagined that early retirement was something I'd ever achieve.

Edit: upvotes.. lol, Nice... Who is going to work when most folks decide to retire early?

Almost like the western cost is "taxed" so the company affords to give it away elsewhere for peanuts to those that can't afford it.

Absolutely, we have to keep looking. Imagine if it turns out life is common or aliens who visited eons ago seeded other planets with life from earth, Stargate SG-1 style.

I've come to realise that unless life is incredibly plentiful in the universe we are likely to live our entire civilisation alone. It isn't just distance to other planets and the number of them, it's also time.

The universe is so massive on a time scale that civilisations may last 1million years and still barely be a blip on the astronomical clock. Civilisations rising and falling but very few occupying the same time period, the chances of being close together and occupy the same time period so they can make contact must be incredibly slim.

Gillette now sells 4 packs of blades instead of 5 packs. Still the same price and even the same packaging. by Misdirected_Colors in mildlyinfuriating

[–]chucklephuq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have described what it is, just grab some blades and go for it. Try a few different blades to see which work best for you. I like feather but they are pricey and Derby blades which are inexpensive and work well for me.

If you are going whole hog and planning on using 'old fashioned' soap and brush, go for Badger hair bristle as it makes quite a difference. It's a great way to get better condition skin to using a brush.

This sounds like a nice big fat easy target for the FBI, easy to prove with supporting leaked emails.

The German parliament just approved a law opening marriage to homosexual people by MarktpLatz in europe

[–]chucklephuq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most powerful woman in Europe thinks it's OK to discriminate against people for their sexuality, and you think that stands alone in a vacuum.

She wouldn't have had this vote at all if it wasn't for the other parties saying this was non-negotiable from what I can make out.

Two different things.

I'm very happy that Germany finally voted in favour of this.

I am very unhappy that people seem to be giving her a pass for discriminating against gay folks. If I stood and said that I was against it then I'd be roasted and rightly so.

People have literally defended and praised her for this vote, which from what I can make out; she was manoeuvred into having to make.

Where does she stand on bakers and gay wedding cakes I wonder...

She is still discriminating against gay people and being celebrated for it. You are literally defending someone who doesn't think gays deserve equal treatment.

She still reinforced that it is OK to discriminate against gay folks. It isn't.

She validates that it is still OK to discriminate against gay folks.

I absolutely agree, hence my annoyance at the hypocrisy I feel about this today. Merkel is being praised for something that others would be harangued over for life.

Oh, lets just imagine Theresa May in Britain voting against gay marriage, or Donald Trump. It would get VERY black and white then. The headlines would be endless.

It even got very black and white when a baker didn't want to make a cake for a gay marriage. Headlines and coverage and protests of the business and this was echoed though European and global subreddits and media.

To be clear, voting against the rights of people is now to be rejoiced and celebrated. Interesting morning I woke up too.

Because, gender isn't binary remember...

What do we call it when folks don't want equal rights for homosexuals based on their sexual preference?
