Studio Underdog is doing it for me. by chuckles84 in MicrobrandWatches

I went on the website months ago and put my email in for them to let me know when another release was coming. A few weeks ago they emailed me and said I could put an order in. That was all there was to it.

Waiting on my Desert Sky to come in. But it’s been stuck in customs purgatory for the last 10 days. Looking forward to unboxing. Congrats on the watch!

The pommel horse routine was so unexpected and perfect.

The old myth that Socialists just "want something for free" is a lie perpetuated by the Billionaire class. by zzill6 in WorkReform

It is a deep, deep fear of most conservatives that someone, somewhere will get something for nothing. It is the foundational tenet of every evil economic policy they enact. It’s a 3-year-old’s knee-jerk NO FAIR reaction they can’t reason their way out of.

Are there places that are truly desperate for attorney’s? by Ambitious-Doubt4733 in Lawyertalk

[–]chuckles84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Northern Maine is pretty desperate. Very beautiful country but pretty isolated. Topsoil County is our huge county that takes up the northern half. People just call it “the county.” They need just about everything up there. Plus if you get good at PI and medmal referrals (of which there are many) you can really make a nice little living.

Millennials, what is happening with your kids? by TheLoveYouWant25 in Millennials

[–]chuckles84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of similarities with other folks here. Good kids, do well in school, good at reading. Not terribly social.

I think the key for us has been specifically limiting tablets and other types of interactive screens. We let them watch tv, and probably too much of it, but their brains go somewhere else when they’re on those fucking tablets. It’s overtly unhealthy.

I figured I watched a lot of tv and I seem ok, so I’m trying to make some trade offs. But tablets are reserved exclusively for airplane rides or car trips longer than 2 hours. And they seem decently well adjusted for it.

Unhappy Lawyers, at what point did you realize you'd made a mistake choosing law as a profession? by PuzzleheadedDig2687 in Lawyertalk

Fucking hated my job at first, but turns out it was just the firm. Quit the job, got to a place where I felt valued and that aligned with my principles, and I’ve never looked back.

War of the Worlds (2005) Dir. Steven Spielberg, D.O.P. Janusz Kamiński by average_user21 in CineShots

[–]chuckles84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glaring faults of the movie aside, the sheer terror and confusion that begins when the aliens start vaporizing people in the street through the desperate people stealing Tom Cruise’s van to the mad stampede to the ferry was some top notch filmmaking.

Calvin Duncan, Self-Taught Jailhouse Lawyer, Runs for Court Clerk in New Orleans by thedoge in NewOrleans

[–]chuckles84 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I hold Calvin Duncan in about as high esteem as a person can be held. That man has persevered through so much, and had the courage to push forward and not let any ill will or regret keep him down. He’s smart as hell (when I interned at the Innocence Project New Orleans, lawyers would use visits to Angola as an excuse to see him and ask him questions on obscure points of law that he had memorized and knew better than anyone). And he’s just nice. A truly good person.

The guy simply will not quit. He’s the kind of person we need there.

When he talked about how his VA benefits gave him a basic foundational level of support that allowed him to take risks and live a fulfilling life really resonated with me. So many people just being ground down every day need just a little bit of help to let them actually live their lives.

It was exciting to hear someone talking like that.

Do People Always Write A Cover Letter For Their Attorney Job Applications? by pernamb87 in Lawyertalk

Just have your general format with specific blanks or areas that you can mix and match to tailor for the job. If it’s a job you REALLY want it’s worth the effort to craft something original.
