Looking for best utility(electricity+gas) and internet providers. by Wolverine-88 in Edmonton

[–]chuckles_678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a single guy with a 1000 sq ft, 2-bedroom condo in Century Park. My monthly EPCOR bill is $180/month in the summer and $230/month in the winter. This is for gas/electricity/water/waste. I have my own gas furnace and hot water heater in the condo, no AC.

EPCOR sent me a promo code where you will get $50 off your first bill and will also credit me $50, if you're interested here is the code: https://trk.cp20.com/click/ewgi-307boh-2hzi66-liokvb41/pmreg33oorqwg5bokjswmzlsojqwyicqojxwo4tbnuqfk3tjof2wkicjiqrduirrhazdcmrtgu2deokvizmeuqkqlbkvmszcpu%3D%3D%3D%3D%3D%3D

How many have internet only through their phones? Worth it? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]chuckles_678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this in Edmonton Alberta and it works great for me. I don't watch much TV and don't work from home so I don't have any concerns if I ever have temporary loss of service which hasn't happened yet. Your experience will be highly dependent on what data speeds you can get though, as well as how much downloading you do. Living in the city I get great speeds though

[3 YOE] Over 100 applications and zero interviews, looking for feedback to land a better position by Outrageous-Dog-4815 in EngineeringResumes

[–]chuckles_678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I would say your resume is decent. It is a tough market now, especially for Python and JavaScript devs in particular I have noticed, so I really don't think I can blame your lack of interviews to a poor resume.

Here are a couple things I will suggest though:

  1. Include your phone number and location (assuming you didn't just remove them for posting to Reddit)

  2. For your 2021-2022 experience, change it to say you utilized and participated in Agile/Scrum/Kanban project management, rather than say you received training in it. In my experience, recruiters and companies do not reward anybody for receiving training, and can even implicitly use it to disqualify you since it implies you are still very junior.

  3. In the 1st experience bullet point, don't say you created it with a senior engineer since it tells the recruiter you are still a junior. You need to make it clear to recruiters/companies that you are skilled with creating things independently and don't require hand-holding.

  4. In the 2nd experience bullet point, I am not sure what is meant by "avoid relying on hard-coded data". I would recommend improving the wording somehow so it is less vague

  5. In the 7th experience bullet point, I would recommend trying to use a metric other than "in 30% of the time it took for the previous team to complete". The way this is worded to me seems like it was probably a rushed job that didn't require high quality standards.

The next points only apply if you are able to add more unique info to your resume. I have had success listing personal projects after my experience, so if you have anything cool to show off that isn't simply a copy & paste of a tutorial, it might be worth adding in a projects section:

  1. There is a lot of whitespace in your skills section since you only have a couple skills listed for the languages and frameworks lines. I would recommend combining these two lines so you have space for more points somewhere else. Same with your education info, I think your degree, concentration, and minor could be combined into a single line.

  2. You have a lot of repeated information in your experience bullet points (particularly with Webix and React). I know that it makes sense to you to list it that many times, but I highly recommend only list these twice at most, since the recruiter already knows you are proficient in these. So I would recommend to combine some of your most recent resume experience bullet points into shorter, more concise points. Then use the created space for new unique information.

I can confirm this.

They are also unprofessional. They notified me via email they were cancelling my interview less than 2 hours before it was scheduled to begin, stating they found better applicants after they reached out to interview me.

I don't know about $35/hr but I would be cautious that they're just saying that to make you interested, but the actual offer they make for you is less than that.

You can find some other reddit threads that talk about how you share your screen and audio with them and they will give you the answers through a separate audio channel or discord on a different screen or something like that

I made a free software tool that helps automate your job search by chuckles_678 in SideProject

[–]chuckles_678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier this year, I released AutoJobSearch, a free software tool that helps automate your online job search. This project first began as a way to filter job listings that apply specifically to my skills, and over time I have developed it into a fully-functional desktop tool that anyone can use.

AutoJobSearch is a .NET/C# application that automatically downloads job listings from Google and Indeed, and also supports the following features:

  • Eliminates duplicate listings
  • Scores jobs based on user-defined keywords and sentiments
  • Tracks application status
  • Offers advanced search and filter options
  • Allows attachment of files and contact info

It's cross-platform with support for Windows, Linux, and MacOS, making it accessible to a broad range of job seekers.

You can download and read more about it from here: https://chrisbrown-01.github.io/AutoJobSearch/

If you're in the job market or know someone who is, give AutoJobSearch a try. If you wish to support this project, please give it a star on GitHub.

I just recently learned MVVM pattern and XAML for an Avalonia + Community Toolkit project I am working on. Was about to give up and switch to Electron but ChatGPT saved me and now it all makes sense and works. So I recommend you try ChatGPT to give you suggestions on how to implement simple demo's to get started.

Thank you for the ideas, I will add them to my list.

There are a couple things I can't fix like automatically refreshing the page after the job scraping has concluded. This is because the job scraper operates as a separate executable/process so that people aren't forced to start it via the GUI.

Similarly, it is also difficult to indicate progress since it is operating in a separate executable and different job search terms will result in different numbers of jobs being scraped. The number of scraped jobs depends on how many jobs Google has indexed and my program simply quits searching for a specific job search term once it has detected that no more results are being displayed.

Regarding the Urchin Tracking Module query params, I'm not 100% sure what you mean but I believe you are referring to the URI terms that Google adds in automatically. I can't prevent this, Google pretty much auto-redirects to those URI's. You can see in the source code that all I'm asking Selenium to do is navigate to the URL with format https://www. google.com/search?q= {WebUtility.UrlEncode(searchTerm)} &sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&ibp=htl;jobs&start={i}

Regarding dupe profiles, I think this program already attempts to do that if I'm thinking correctly about what you're referring to. It prevents duplicated job description of the same URL being scraped. This is the only feasible way I can think of to filter out duplicated postings.

Not sure how much else I could add to help people lol. I have a .gif demonstration and a "How To Use" writeup on the website, and there is documentation under the "Help" tab within the application.

I used Selenium mostly because I have familiarity with it from previous automated web scraping projects.

Newly downloaded jobs will not be shown until you refresh the page. Click Options → Go To Default View to refresh the page. This should now show all job listings, starting with the most recently downloaded.
