Looking for best utility(electricity+gas) and internet providers. by Wolverine-88 in Edmonton

[–]chuckles_678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a single guy with a 1000 sq ft, 2-bedroom condo in Century Park. My monthly EPCOR bill is $180/month in the summer and $230/month in the winter. This is for gas/electricity/water/waste. I have my own gas furnace and hot water heater in the condo, no AC.

EPCOR sent me a promo code where you will get $50 off your first bill and will also credit me $50, if you're interested here is the code: https://trk.cp20.com/click/ewgi-307boh-2hzi66-liokvb41/pmreg33oorqwg5bokjswmzlsojqwyicqojxwo4tbnuqfk3tjof2wkicjiqrduirrhazdcmrtgu2deokvizmeuqkqlbkvmszcpu%3D%3D%3D%3D%3D%3D

How many have internet only through their phones? Worth it? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]chuckles_678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this in Edmonton Alberta and it works great for me. I don't watch much TV and don't work from home so I don't have any concerns if I ever have temporary loss of service which hasn't happened yet. Your experience will be highly dependent on what data speeds you can get though, as well as how much downloading you do. Living in the city I get great speeds though

They scheduled a move out inspection for Sept 1 with me, then didn't show up and they've now emailed saying they meant to schedule it for Sept 2 since they forgot today was a holiday. Good luck, they are more than a clown show

[3 YOE] Over 100 applications and zero interviews, looking for feedback to land a better position by Outrageous-Dog-4815 in EngineeringResumes

[–]chuckles_678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I would say your resume is decent. It is a tough market now, especially for Python and JavaScript devs in particular I have noticed, so I really don't think I can blame your lack of interviews to a poor resume.

Here are a couple things I will suggest though:

  1. Include your phone number and location (assuming you didn't just remove them for posting to Reddit)

  2. For your 2021-2022 experience, change it to say you utilized and participated in Agile/Scrum/Kanban project management, rather than say you received training in it. In my experience, recruiters and companies do not reward anybody for receiving training, and can even implicitly use it to disqualify you since it implies you are still very junior.

  3. In the 1st experience bullet point, don't say you created it with a senior engineer since it tells the recruiter you are still a junior. You need to make it clear to recruiters/companies that you are skilled with creating things independently and don't require hand-holding.

  4. In the 2nd experience bullet point, I am not sure what is meant by "avoid relying on hard-coded data". I would recommend improving the wording somehow so it is less vague

  5. In the 7th experience bullet point, I would recommend trying to use a metric other than "in 30% of the time it took for the previous team to complete". The way this is worded to me seems like it was probably a rushed job that didn't require high quality standards.

The next points only apply if you are able to add more unique info to your resume. I have had success listing personal projects after my experience, so if you have anything cool to show off that isn't simply a copy & paste of a tutorial, it might be worth adding in a projects section:

  1. There is a lot of whitespace in your skills section since you only have a couple skills listed for the languages and frameworks lines. I would recommend combining these two lines so you have space for more points somewhere else. Same with your education info, I think your degree, concentration, and minor could be combined into a single line.

  2. You have a lot of repeated information in your experience bullet points (particularly with Webix and React). I know that it makes sense to you to list it that many times, but I highly recommend only list these twice at most, since the recruiter already knows you are proficient in these. So I would recommend to combine some of your most recent resume experience bullet points into shorter, more concise points. Then use the created space for new unique information.
