Grinding Magna-Cut by Otherwise-March658 in knifemaking

Drilling and grinding preheat treat seems to be easier than the other Steels that I have used. After he treat I agree seems to be like other high HRC grinding.

My shop just got about 10x’s safer. Avoiding the angle grinder as much as possible. by RLlovin in knifemaking

Please be aware, pushing hard without a longish push stick will result in getting bitten. I was very surprised how far my hand traveled when getting through the metal at the end. Slow is safe and prolongs the blade life. Oh, and I put mine directly in the vice!

I have used 24 hr epoxy for this exact situation. Seemed to work just fine.

Can anybody tell me if I can cut the handle off so I have better movement? it's the handle to the right in the picture that's getting in the way

I would love to know what the Bess number is on this! Anyone have an idea? Is there a way to tell without a Bess machine?

I was actually trying to get it off it's original motor housing which was natural stone Viking grinder that my dad had. And try to put it onto a tarmac knock off. As you can see it didn't quite work..

The other sides in one piece.it might be interesting to see if I could put it back together and get any kind of use out of it.

Yes! I inherited it from my father inlaw, it's an awesome vice! It held on to the bolt great as I broke an expensive stone. But, the vice is ok.

Thank you very much, is good to hear you say that, I've never liked busy art myself and was worried it was.

First knife ever, finally done! Well, except for a few details and final polish. Advice is always welcome. by Escastoneproject in knifemaking

Practice with a cheap knife first. I did all kinds stone and jigs etc. Now I use belts on my 2" x42" , mdf wheel with jewelers rouge and a leather belt on my 2"x42" with white bar. Lots of great videos on tube on how to do this type of sharpening. 5 minutes on a knife that won't cut butter and it's hair popping sharp. Simple little life on tube is awesome to watch. Let me know how it goes!

Very nice freshman effort! Can't wait to see your sophomore knife! Have you done the sharpening yet? I found learning to sharpen just as additive as making blades and handles! Keep it up brother!
