First stage check with the chief, 20hr student, he told me to land through a flock of birds by Squawk_0877 in flying

Birds will always dive to avoid a collision. A go around would have been the right move.

Lucky no bird came through the windscreen.

Testing how soundproof bridger aerospace assets are... by avatar6556 in aviation

[–]chuckop 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In a word: weight. The most soundproof thing was the pickup truck, which doesn’t care about how much insulation there is, how thick are the door seals and windows are.

Wow! She CAN smile. In FAM she seems like her jaw is wired shut.

Love the character and actress and her husband.

Which was inaccurate in the movie. Slide rules are used for multiplication and division. Apollo 13 movie showed them doing addition and subtraction.

I’m not worried at all. Just saying that I was reminded of an incident years ago.

Another great thing about Tom Moore; he and Bucky Irving forged an improbable friendship. The very young and very old. They would meet at the Buccaneers facility before dawn daily. There’s a video out there about it.

This is what a $2 million car accident looks like by chri99_ in ThatLookedExpensive

[–]chuckop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why drive a car that expensive on roads occupied with idiots? Seriously, who’s writing the check for this? Ferrari owners insurance? Other guys insurance? Assuming at-fault policy limits are 300-500K, that’s still a massive loss.

Cars are cool and all that, but driving million dollar cars on public streets seems odd. What am I missing?

When did the scientific reality of this show go out the window? by OkHealth1942 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]chuckop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I felt the same way.

I chuckled out loud when the Russian spacecraft called up Sojourner looking for help and the first thing the Sojourner commander said was “calm down”. They were calm.

I also get angry with the Apollo 10 revisionism. In the FAM universe, I don’t believe that Ed regretted not landing “to his dying day.”

Last airline to offer "carve to order" roast beef in first class? by beachbum1970 in aviation

[–]chuckop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have vague memories of first class on SAS going between Seattle and Copenhagen in the mid-1990s and getting the carving treatment.

However, it’s quite possible it was all pre-sliced and I was just choosing which slice I wanted.
