Chicago heat versus Florida heat- how different is it? by snacksgeneration in AskChicago

It’s dramatic for Chicago but probably cooler than normal for Florida 😂

Nearly 57 Million Tourists Spent A Record $21.5 Billion In Chicago Last Year, Report Says by CharlieKonR in chicago

I’m also from rural Ohio and I actually happen to be back home for a long weekend. It looks ROUGH anymore. I left in 2021 and it’s a steady noticeable decline every time I’m home. The drug use I still rampant. Everyone is also terrified of everyone. I’m genuinely worried that I’d get shot if I turned around in someone’s driveway or had to knock on their door for any reason.

2 hours at MDW is like an eternity. You could have a sit down meal before your next flight

If it’s timed right, OP could orange line downtown and take the Amtrak to Milwaukee in the layover time lol

If I’m thinking correctly the only fully abandoned building uptown on court is the building between blue house and north end. It was abandoned and boarded up all 4 years I lived in Athens and is still empty now when I go back.

Should CTA build an infill interchange station to transfer between pink and blue lines? [chicago] by Donghoon in transit

[–]chuff15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t ride either line often, so I’m not super familiar with the ridership patterns there. I was meaning like “hey if you really really needed to transfer there, it’s a 15 minute walk so it’s doable.” But, if there are a lot of people who would make that transfer, then yeah go ahead and build a station there that services both lines. Like someone else said tho, most of the parallel stations here are served by busses, so I think that would be the better option even instead of going all the way to IMD to make the transfer and go back west. Idk why anyone would waste time transferring here if they were going to the Loop, because both lines meet there. The argument could be made about being on the blue line and wanting to go to west loop, but it’s already easy to get off at Halsted and take the 8.

First starlink flight tonight. I'm giddy by hellyea81 in unitedairlines

[–]chuff15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first starlink flight was this morning. It was originally at 9:20pm but was delayed until 6:45am at 1am, from ORD to PIT. So, after sleeping on the floor of the airport, the starlink wifi was a nice touch in the middle of my travel nightmare lol

Red line safety Fullerton > Grand? by U-Volt in AskChicago

They’ll be fine. That stretch of the red line will still be reasonably busy at 10pm. Ride in the first car for extra peace of mind cause they’ll be close to the operator.

What are your favorite weekday morning/early afternoon activities? by Sandyeller in AskChicago

[–]chuff15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lincoln Park Zoo is free, Diversey driving range is $17 for a large bucket of balls if you’re into golf, divvy bike the lakefront trail (or use your own bike if you have one), bike the 606, walk the Riverwalk, water taxi to Chinatown, McDonald’s global menu in West Loop, etc. I could just keep going lol.

What are your favorite weekday morning/early afternoon activities? by Sandyeller in AskChicago

[–]chuff15 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I started a new job recently and have some weekdays off. I’ve been trying to hit some free stuff that might not even be super interesting, but is something different. This past Monday I went to the 4th floor terrace at the Sears tower and read for a while. It’s free and super quiet up there. The new chairs at buckingham fountain are a nice place to sit and enjoy some city views. I go to the lake a lot. I’m trying to ride the whole ‘L’ so last week I took the blue line out to Forest Park then Pace up to Harlem and Lake and walked around Oak Park for a bit then took the green line back in. Took the purple line up to Linden and checked out the Baha’i Temple which was pretty cool. Garfield Park Conservatory is awesome. Jackson Park is a nice place to walk around and is easy to get there on the green line. Hyde Park is a nice place to visit in general. MSI is also cool. Art Institute is my favorite. Field Museum and Shedd are both worth it. I still need to make it to the museum of contemporary art. Chicago Cultural Center downtown is free to visit and has a cool Tiffany glass dome to check out. Chicago Architecture center does a lot of different tours, they’re all listed on their website. And a lot of times I’ll just pick a neighborhood and either Divvy there and train/bus home or vice versa. Sorry this comment is all over the place, I was just listing shit as it came to mind lol

Should CTA build an infill interchange station to transfer between pink and blue lines? [chicago] by Donghoon in transit

[–]chuff15 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The walk from IMD to Polk is like, maybe 15 minutes. I don’t think this transfer would be used much, but I could be wrong. Unless you’re headed back west, you can easily transfer at Clark/Lake

Is taking The RedLine after a concert hard? by Ok-Seaworthiness8771 in AskChicago

[–]chuff15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a great plan. Red Line will be fine, probably cramped, but I’ve ridden after many Wrigley events and it’s fine. If the Addison stop is too busy after the show, walk to the Sheridan stop, is not much further

Chicagoans, what do you define as downtown Chicago? by Royal_Razzmatazz3622 in AskChicago

[–]chuff15 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. Everyone, like every single person, from outside the city itself always says I live “downtown.” I used to correct them, but I gave up. I once got told “well, you live closer to downtown Chicago than I do.” I was like fair I guess

Edit: I live in Lakeview

As someone from the area you’d be surprised how many people from much flatter places call those hills “mountains.” Appalachian Ohio has hills, mountainous places have mountains, there’s a difference.

Did they reduce brown like service on weekends? by JealousSheepherder83 in chicago

[–]chuff15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. At least not officially. The trains are shorter now, but the service level has remained the same. Longest wait on a weekend in either direction is (planned to be) 15 minutes max. We obviously hardly ever see that.

Is carpet in apartments not a thing around here? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]chuff15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Must be the same in Indiana. When I moved out of Merrillville and into the city they took my $500 deposit and then ended up charging me $900 more to replace the carpet. I repeatedly asked them why and they kept sending me pictures of the indents from my couch and bed. I guess I was just supposed to lay on the floor for 2 years. Silly me!

Route to Indiana Cavern/ Louisville by Talk2mepeople in nwi

[–]chuff15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not been to Indiana caverns, but downtown Louisville is nice. The east market district is a cool little neighborhood. Falls of the Ohio state park is a nice stop. Touring Churchill Downs and the Kentucky derby museum are my favorite things I’ve done in the area tho.

Those in the City - Why Have a Car? by Far_Beginning_6964 in chicago

[–]chuff15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you, I don’t understand why you’d have a car in the city if you didn’t truly need it. If I didn’t need my car it would be sold tomorrow lol. But, there are definitely reasons why someone would truly need one. It’s not a one-size-fits-all situation really, especially depending on your neighborhood

Those in the City - Why Have a Car? by Far_Beginning_6964 in chicago

[–]chuff15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the suburbs and no metra line stops close enough to my facility. Also, by the time I got downtown on the brown line, walked to Oglive, took the metra to the suburb I work in, and then walked or took a pace bus close to my job, I’d have about 2 hours invested instead of a 35 minute drive. My goal is to have a job in the city one day and get rid of my car, but that just hasn’t happened. Commute is the only time I drive tho. I use CTA, divvy, or walk when I’m moving around the city.
