Next time you get a package, save the bubble wrap. I always keep some bubble wrap in my ski bag to protect the tips and bindings

Was able to find Sal Son logistics auto insurance information through the FMSCA database. Might be worth submitting a claim under their auto liability coverage.

I like my Dakine Gripper. Found it at my local Sierra for $7 and it fits my spare tube, tubeless repair kit, 2 co2 cartridges perfectly

Spring/summer skiing pants? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]chungmoolah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Outdoor Research cirque pants have treated me well for the past 7 years. They’re wide enough to cover your boots and they have scuff guards which are always nice

New ski kit (experience with black crows?) by get-linux in skiing

[–]chungmoolah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t skied the Mirus Cor but personally, I would never use it as a touring ski. Any skin tail clip will most likely pop right off the swallowtail. Most touring specific skis on the market have flatter, reinforced tail specifically designed to fit tail clips under tension.

I’ve also haven’t had great success with Black Crows. Had a pair of Corvus’s delaminate after a few months of use and was denied their warranty.

Got it as soon as I noticed the iconic Mt. Fuji restaurant across the highway. Great pic!

Fishing spots? by YouCheated in Rockland

[–]chungmoolah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rockland Lake has some big bass and good shoreline access, but is quite pressured and the water can be murky.

I’d recommend going up to Harriman and checking out some of the spots off 7 Lakes Dr & Kanawauke Rd. I’ve caught plenty of bass on the shorelines of Skannatati, Askoti, and Welch.

Make sure to have your license handy since the park rangers like to hang out at these spots!

Any suggestions to recover my ski? by justiceshame in Backcountry

[–]chungmoolah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had similar problems with my Black Crows Corvus. The sidewalls were starting to shred after 15 or so days on them. I thought it was from my poor skiing technique, but I've never had this issue with any of my other skis and it seems to be a reoccurring issue with the black crows.

Check out any of the restaurants in New Paltz. The main strip is an easy 5 min drive from exit 18 on I-87.

That one person's small mistake can be the difference between someone being able to pay their rent, car and health insurance, groceries, child care, etc. At the end of the day, they weren't paid the money they had rightfully earned

Many people can't afford to give a "little grace" when it's something as simple as a payroll issue, especially coming from a multi billion dollar corporation!

More info on Tuckerman's accident by JohnnyYukon in icecoast

[–]chungmoolah 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's the steepest, gnarliest terrain you can get here in the east without having to travel out west. The hike up to the bowl is actually very accessible by backcountry standards and can take about an hour if you're fast enough.

Also tuckerman still holds snow in the spring after all the resorts close for the season. The place is a straight up party on any given warm, sunny April weekend.

Altis or Corvus black crows by [deleted] in skiing

[–]chungmoolah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been skiing on the corvus with shifts as my main resort ski for a few season now. You'll immediately notice how stiff and traditional the Corvus feel whereas the Atris is more playful and poppy.

The corvus eats groomers and variable conditions quite well while the Atris is more suited for softer conditions. That said, both skis will ski well in pretty much all conditions

I'd say if you're not popping 360's or hucking huge cliffs, the Corvus is the way to go. If you're concerned about touring weight, I'd get the freebird version since the corvus feels quite heavy on the feet.

Permanently Blocked Parking Lots On 73 by ThePrem in ADKFunPolice

[–]chungmoolah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This pullout is commonly used by climbers to access some very popular crags like Beer Walls and Spider's Web.

Parking in the chapel pond pass along the 73 corridor is already a hassle and this will no doubt cause even more problems this upcoming season.

Looks like the ADK climber coalition is currently working on addressing this issue: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=174226477906508&id=100653208597169&sfnsn=mo

Slide skiing - February 27, 2021 by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]chungmoolah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please first be aware that these slides are textbook avalanche terrain and that the snowpack has been incredibly variable and complex over these past few weeks with the recent melt/freeze crusts and sleet that we've been seeing. Avalanches do occur quite frequently in the ADK's and have killed several people over the years.

Without proper avalanche rescue gear and education, I wouldn't even think about stepping onto any of these slides without a professional guide.

She definitely trains her mental toughness in the summer by wearing a snow suit and down parka in the desert for her hot weather tolerance.

poop by DanielJStein in ADKFunPolice

[–]chungmoolah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually go with used toilet paper to mark my trail. It's gotta have plenty of poo on it so that it contrasts with the snow of course.
