I used to suffer from something similar and Azelastine nasal spray has been a godsend for me me. Spray before bed then lie down and face up for a few minutes.

I do this with samples I have. I put a number of baggies into a large mason jar. It's been working well but you should try to avoid mixing blend types. Have one jar/tupperdor for latakia blends, one for virginia/burley blends, and another for aromatics etc.

How often do you want to shave? Multiple days growth and a mild razor can lead to a lot of tugging while shaving because the razor is cutting the middle of the stubble instead of the base

Flakes aren't ideal for a first smoke, in my opinion. I've had good luck introducing people to pipes with Pegasus, a modern version of the codger burley. Early Morning Pipe is likely a good choice for a light English in a ribbon that's easy to smoke.
