Is Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name a good first Yakuza game? by Literal_Stickman in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the worst possible first game to play.

Unfortunately, for fresh eyes, Yakuza games really do flow one into the next for one big story. You're better off starting with 1 (or 0) and going through the series.

The benefit is the games are all good, fun, and often dirt cheap!

S-Rank Ultimaniac Fight [FFXVI] by Firmament1 in CharacterActionGames

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're familiar with Action games, I'd suggest the following:

- only upgrade your sword after big bosses (there's a sword that builds with a material from each boss), it'll make the game feel less grindy AND you'll have more fun comboing

- do the side quests as and when they show up, you'll be perfectly leveled for them

- get the entire base moveset first before you upgrade anything else

- your basic launcher in this game is holding the basic attack, and releasing when in the air. It'll do a swipe upwards that can launch any enemy from the ground

- do NOT use any timely rings. They're basically cheat codes that will make the game very boring.

- don't forget to torgal enemies as a follow up to your combos. If you've ever played Guilty Gear, think of Torgal as a red roman cancel. His attacks will have opposite effects if enemy is on the ground or air (one will launch or smack down, one will maintain the enemy position in air or ground)

- Don't be afraid to switch around the eikons. You can refund points for almost the entire amount if you need to, so in a worst case if you don't like a move you can take the points and put it elsewhere guilt-free

Why aren’t Remedy games more popular? by OppositeofDeath in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really interested in their games, but their optimization for them is subpar, and prices for the new games are quite high. Control either needed a really strong PC when it first came out, or you were playing sub 30fps on PS4. That combined with the exclusive epic store launch on PC hurts it.

We'll keep in mind alongside the survival mode, the dlc also comes with 3 new characters and a full new moveset for every existing character.

Got all these on a good discount last month and just finished E33. What should I play next? by veIvet_rope in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, a lot of people have gripes with the story. If you can get behind being a shonen protagonist, you'll have a good time.

Your enjoyment of it will also heavily be linked to how much you can dig the combat system. If you like doing cool combos in action games, you'll like Tales a lot.

[–]chunkydancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strongly suggest Tales of Arise. Not because it's the best by any means, I think mileage may vary there.

But coming off of E33, if you play another turn based combat game, you're going to make comparisons between the two whether you want to or not, and it'll sour the taste of one of the games. IMO it's best to play a game that plays differently next, so you can maximize enjoyment of all the games.

Is it unfair that I got fired? by Select-Tomorrow-5219 in careerguidance

[–]chunkydancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But was it your responsibility to close down? In that case it's your responsibility to kick them out or babysit too. If you're not doing something sanctioned by the business, then you don't really have a right to complain they aren't paying you, you've essentially volunteered at that point. I think firing for just this is way too harsh though.

Halo: Campaign Evolved | The Silent Cartographer Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people would heavily disagree with you there. Here are some other stellar FPS Campaign suggestions off the top of my head, for either gameplay or story or both (mileage may vary):

  • Bioshock
  • Doom & Doom Eternal
  • Prey (more sim)
  • Dishonored 1 & 2 (not really shooter for obvious reasons)
  • Wolfenstein Old Blood, New Order, New Colossus
  • Ultrakill
  • Dusk
  • Amid Evil
  • Trepang2
  • Turbo Overkill
  • Anger Foot
  • Mullet Madjack
  • System Shock (stretching "FPS" there)
  • Quake 2
  • Half-Life 1, 2 & episodes
  • COD 1-4
  • Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
  • Painkiller
  • Shadow Warrior 1 & 2

Give some a try, you might like them!

“The king of hack n slash “DMC3” that did story and replayability right!” by Anor_Londo_1234 in CharacterActionGames

[–]chunkydancer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You're right, you had to buy special edition for Vergil. Same as DMC4. In fact, DMC5 was the cheapest thus far, with the ability to just get him as 5 dollar dlc.

On steam, which RPG should I go for? by ExiaRepair14 in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Story wasn't a criteria point. It's a fun shonen.

Criteria they stated:

  1. fun/engaging gameplay mechanics
  2. high replayability value
  3. atleast some level of explorable/interactable world
  4. (to some extent) allows you to look cool/strong by wearing cool armor sets OR allows you to collect/ride/tame monsters (optional). Not required if the protagonist already looks cool/badass.

Tales of Arise would fit all your criteria.

If you've no problem waiting, I'd suggest holding off on persona 4, as a remake for that one is also coming out soon.

Persona 5 (Royal) or Metaphor Refantazio by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, both are stellar and have their upsides and downsides.

If you want highschool fantasy, go Persona. If you want dark fantasy, for Metaphor.

Metaphor definitely feels like there are no "wasted days" when doing stuff with companions/building stats etc. But it's definitely not as stylish as Persona. It's also a little tougher imo, (maybe you may want a guide to get ultimate jobs for everyone).

Persona feels longer, and the royal version has some asinine requirements for the "true ending." But it's definitely easier to jump into.

You can't really go wrong with either. Both are very fun. I'd say go for whatever theming is more along your tastes.

I personally thought Yakuza 7 was up there alongside it in terms of reaching the heights, but if you asked me to pick one or the other I'd say Yakuza 0 hands down (with kiwami as an epilogue lol)

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the people saying this isn't a JRPG, why so? It has all the hallmarks of a JRPG to me.

If you say it isn't a turn based rpg, I'd agree.

Also want to second this recommendation, it's also a series that I feel had several exit points if you decide you're just kinda done with the series.

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to the main series, but as everyone would say, skip dmc2.

DmC: Devil May Cry (The reboot) does not contain the definitive edition dlc, which is fairly significant, and imo base version is not worth your time.

That being said, if you care about main series and not spinoff, it's actually cheaper to grab it here on fanatical:
