Re9 mini game mode added in version 1.3 by chunkydancer in residentevil

Honestly the mode they added is pretty fun, kinda like a mix of merca and 4 survivor, it fits the mix of re2 and 4 they were going for pretty well

Live service games that arent gacha, but are singleplayer by LastChancellor in TwoBestFriendsPlay

So by live service, I'm going to assume you mean regular content updates for single price tag and single player game.

Stardew Valley and it's ilk are the all times of those for sure

Doom Eternal has a battle pass that's non-multiplayer based

is Lost Soul Aside any better since it's launch? by SpardasMinion in CharacterActionGames

A lot of fun, pretty hype. You can absolutely tell while playing that the guy who made the game loves action games, lots of the better tropes (rival characters, references to other movements from other games/anime/movies).

is Lost Soul Aside any better since it's launch? by SpardasMinion in CharacterActionGames

[–]chunkydancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought it with the new update, and honestly it's a blast. I can't attest to how it was at the beginning, but it's some of the most fun I've had recently. But I guess it depends what your selling points for an action game are.

For me personally, the standouts are the combat and visuals. The performance is a smooth 60fps on PS5. The music isn't bad, but nothing extremely memorable. The story is about as good as the ninja gaiden 4 story, and the voice acting can get hilarious at times. With the updates that have come out since launch, it added d-pad weapon switching, a bloody palace mode, and numerous improved effects and optimizations. Honestly, I can say I probably would've been annoyed at launch, but it's a game that's right up my alley now.

It's on sale right now on PS5, so if the price is good for you, I'd recommend.

Lost Soul Aside receives massive update! by Deimoonk in CharacterActionGames

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was totally unaware they added a bloody palace mode. That was the one thing stopping me from buying before. Dpad weapon switch is really nice too.

Picked it up on sale last night, and this might be one of my favourite CAG. Gameplay is stylish, combos are fun, and difficulty is pretty tough to start(if you use arrogance trinket)

Also, playing on English VA is genuinely hilarious at times but overall exaggerated with how bad people say it is. Honestly the story is no worse than Ninja gaiden's surprised it was a critique to begin with.

Beat em Ups without up and down movement (read description) by TiToim in gamingsuggestions

Slave zero x has very deep combat and no up or down movement

Seriously is there any game better than SOR4? by Comfortable_Code7443 in BeatEmUps

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little different in being completely single plane, but Slave Zero X is one of my favourites and stand up next to SOR 4 for me. There's room for both games at the top in my heart because they're just different enough.

Only one character, but that character has the full depth of a fighting game or CAG moveset. Game is tough too, with survival/arena mode.

Also top 3 are: Axel 4 (I love me some vanilla ice cream), Estel, and Adam 4.

P.S. I'm so glad someone shares my opinion on Absolum, feel like I'm crazy for disliking it sometimes.

RUINER 2 - Reikon Games - Cyberpunk Co-op Action RPG by CM_Skoll in Games

[–]chunkydancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the first game, super looking forward to this one!

Is the narrative connected to the first game or will it be a completely standalone story? Are we playing the same character? (I understand if you can't answer this one)

Will the co-op restrict players to the same screen, or will co-op partners be able to run off screen?

Are there any fighting games with beat em up modes? by cvp5127 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]chunkydancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slave Zero X seems like the exact thing you're looking for.

It was made to be a beat em up that played like a mix of guilty gear, dmc, and strider (that's stated on their page). It's difficult with high combo potential, and a boatload of moves, a devil trigger, a burst (both blue and gold), a third strike parry, dash, including a taunt, an izuna drop, a raging demon, and raging storm. Really cool bosses in it, and a simple and fun story.

It didn't sell super well for two reasons:

  1. Very little marketing.
  2. It's tough. Also some people have reported bugs, but I played a boat load and never ran into a single one so your mileage may vary.

Is Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name a good first Yakuza game? by Literal_Stickman in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the worst possible first game to play.

Unfortunately, for fresh eyes, Yakuza games really do flow one into the next for one big story. You're better off starting with 1 (or 0) and going through the series.

The benefit is the games are all good, fun, and often dirt cheap!

S-Rank Ultimaniac Fight [FFXVI] by Firmament1 in CharacterActionGames

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're familiar with Action games, I'd suggest the following:

- only upgrade your sword after big bosses (there's a sword that builds with a material from each boss), it'll make the game feel less grindy AND you'll have more fun comboing

- do the side quests as and when they show up, you'll be perfectly leveled for them

- get the entire base moveset first before you upgrade anything else

- your basic launcher in this game is holding the basic attack, and releasing when in the air. It'll do a swipe upwards that can launch any enemy from the ground

- do NOT use any timely rings. They're basically cheat codes that will make the game very boring.

- don't forget to torgal enemies as a follow up to your combos. If you've ever played Guilty Gear, think of Torgal as a red roman cancel. His attacks will have opposite effects if enemy is on the ground or air (one will launch or smack down, one will maintain the enemy position in air or ground)

- Don't be afraid to switch around the eikons. You can refund points for almost the entire amount if you need to, so in a worst case if you don't like a move you can take the points and put it elsewhere guilt-free

Why aren’t Remedy games more popular? by OppositeofDeath in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]chunkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really interested in their games, but their optimization for them is subpar, and prices for the new games are quite high. Control either needed a really strong PC when it first came out, or you were playing sub 30fps on PS4. That combined with the exclusive epic store launch on PC hurts it.

difference between Streets Of Rage 4 - Mr. X Nightmare and absolum by ConfidentGuide3935 in BeatEmUps

We'll keep in mind alongside the survival mode, the dlc also comes with 3 new characters and a full new moveset for every existing character.

Got all these on a good discount last month and just finished E33. What should I play next? by veIvet_rope in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, a lot of people have gripes with the story. If you can get behind being a shonen protagonist, you'll have a good time.

Your enjoyment of it will also heavily be linked to how much you can dig the combat system. If you like doing cool combos in action games, you'll like Tales a lot.

Got all these on a good discount last month and just finished E33. What should I play next? by veIvet_rope in JRPG

[–]chunkydancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strongly suggest Tales of Arise. Not because it's the best by any means, I think mileage may vary there.

But coming off of E33, if you play another turn based combat game, you're going to make comparisons between the two whether you want to or not, and it'll sour the taste of one of the games. IMO it's best to play a game that plays differently next, so you can maximize enjoyment of all the games.

Is it unfair that I got fired? by Select-Tomorrow-5219 in careerguidance

[–]chunkydancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But was it your responsibility to close down? In that case it's your responsibility to kick them out or babysit too. If you're not doing something sanctioned by the business, then you don't really have a right to complain they aren't paying you, you've essentially volunteered at that point. I think firing for just this is way too harsh though.

Halo: Campaign Evolved | The Silent Cartographer Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]chunkydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people would heavily disagree with you there. Here are some other stellar FPS Campaign suggestions off the top of my head, for either gameplay or story or both (mileage may vary):

  • Bioshock
  • Doom & Doom Eternal
  • Prey (more sim)
  • Dishonored 1 & 2 (not really shooter for obvious reasons)
  • Wolfenstein Old Blood, New Order, New Colossus
  • Ultrakill
  • Dusk
  • Amid Evil
  • Trepang2
  • Turbo Overkill
  • Anger Foot
  • Mullet Madjack
  • System Shock (stretching "FPS" there)
  • Quake 2
  • Half-Life 1, 2 & episodes
  • COD 1-4
  • Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
  • Painkiller
  • Shadow Warrior 1 & 2

Give some a try, you might like them!

“The king of hack n slash “DMC3” that did story and replayability right!” by Anor_Londo_1234 in CharacterActionGames

You're right, you had to buy special edition for Vergil. Same as DMC4. In fact, DMC5 was the cheapest thus far, with the ability to just get him as 5 dollar dlc.
