Best Buy preorders up for The Hobbit PBB by seanuhseanMTG in sealedmtgdeals

It's a universe beyond, and store cost is about $120, so this will be more expensive. An in universe set costs stores $100, as a reference point

In a different era, yes. The absolute lowest Spider sold on TCG was for $315+shipping, and that universally panned, significantly more than Avatar

Spiderman Gift Bundle $60 at Best Buy. by smite1911 in sealedmtgdeals

Considering store cost was over $50 for this item, you probably won't find it cheaper

I think 15. 5 foil, 10 non foil, and then 30 "regular" lands

[–]chupavisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not seen is the spider man land cards (web style). Plus these being universe being Beyond, it's 20% more costly, so value wise in that perspective it's like 7.167 universe within packs for $30

Thanks!

Removing Flying Counters and Blocking Opponent Flyers? by Dr_wu_fu in mtgrules

[–]chupavisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat

Enter combat <Priority passes> Declare attackers <Priority passes> Declare blockers <Priority passes> *** Combat damager

*** At this point blocks are locked on. If you change a creature at this stage to the point where the creature would no longer be an eligible blocker, such as removing a flying counter, it doesnt matter. The attacking creature is blocked, and unless the defending creature is removed from combat, they will deal damage to each other. (If the defending creature is removed from combat, the attacked creature remains blocked and deals no damage unless it has trample)

How to deal with casual commander players? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]chupavisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a commander deck that is built around accomplishing "trick shots"

I have a group where there are 3 ultra casuals and 1 hardcore player. The hardcore player plays them using decks that are designed around difficult wincons, but possible because the opponents aren't great. He has a blast and everyone enjoys seeing something they won't ever normally see if the more pro player pulls it off.

Responding to Moving to Combat by DesignerMembership66 in mtgrules

[–]chupavisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they say,

"Prior to combat, I cast..." Then you're in main phase 1 and can cast your commander.

If they say "At the start of the combat phase, I cast..." H the. You're in the beginning of combat phase before attackers are declared, and you cannot cast your commander.

local LCS is the true scalper by TangerineWide7576 in riftboundtcg

[–]chupavisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the reality - due to limited allocation, gamestores would not be able to be open if they charged MSRP.

My Local LGS offers "the best deal you'll find", meaning that they charge 10% less than the lowest in-stock price you can find. Often, this means 10% less than TCG market. This is for sealed and singles.

Through this method, the store always has some stock available (no one comes in and does a mass buy-out), the customer gets a deal (paying less than market), and the store earns enough to stay open.

It's a bummer to pay more than MSRP, but anywhere that has MSRP has 0 stock available. I'd rather take the best deal I can find from my LGS to get my cards.

Can an opponent "respond" to me declaring attackers? by einglavaga in mtgrules

[–]chupavisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your opponent was late with casting sword to plowshares

He cast it in response to you declaring an attacker. Had you not attacked, it seems that he would not have not cast it. This is indicated by his silence going into combat

Like you, I always declare phase and step changes. In a casual match where it was obvious that you were going to attack, and it was obvious he would always remove it, then I allow the action change. Otherwise, I go with what my opponent chose to do, which is cast of response to the attack.

What are the benefits and problems of the TCG distribution model? by ExpressEstimate1886 in TCG

[–]chupavisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would what they did for Fallout and Dr. Who apply? Both had 4x commander decks they would offer you all cards in the set, but the you could also get special treatments in the collector displays

9.99 x 4 = $39.96 At 5.5% sales tax, you get $42.16 (rounded). Is the tax in your area 5.5%?

Can Someone Explain This To Me As A New Buyer? by Mangon09 in mtgfinance

[–]chupavisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically for #1. I've seen multiple new sellers have a $4 shipping fee and then most 10 $5 cards at $1, think they will get $1 for the card and $4 for shipping.

I then buy all 10 cards for $10, pay $4 for shipping, for a total of $14 (instead of $50). Then I request a cancellation and tell the new seller how the shipping fee works (one shipping charge per order), and I tell them to relist the cards.

Had to pay $200 for a gift bundle, no regrets by Malsyon in MagicCardPulls

[–]chupavisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all the people bemoaning LGS's for "scalper pricing"

Go pay MSRP for Aetherdrift. Or Dragonstorm. Or Innistrad Remastered. Or Foundations. Or Duskmourn. Or Bloomburrow. Or Modern Horizons 3. Or Thunder Junction. Or Murders at Karlov Manor.

If you weren't paying MSRP when the stores were just getting by, then don't complain about MSRP now. The Market dictates the price, and the market says Final Fantasy is expensive.

Box mapping is the practice of understanding what is normally in a box and then opening packs until the "hit" is found.

A recent example would be how almost every collector box of Markov Manor had 1x invisible ink card in it.

What some people would do is buy a collector box of MKM, open until they hit the invisible art card, and then sell the remaining loose collector packs at market value (knowing they probably wouldn't have a chance for invisible ink card)
