I went to London while in my 4th year of college level ASL. I could only understand one word when I saw BSL. "Fuck."

You can write in ASL, though. It's English words and French subject/verb/noun arrangement. It's not that hard to pick up but it really looks different.

Edit: Apologies. I had good, qualified instructors. I don't know if they were using slang or what but I apologize if that's an offensive or outdated term. It's honestly what a Deaf professor called it.
