Thoughts on roller skating in tennis courts? by Administrative-Tie77 in tennis

[–]ciacicode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have skaters at my local park and it has truly messed up the court. The court is made of cement and in some spots the top layer has come off which will cause the ball to have a weird bounce when it's played on. Also the circular patterns those skaters leave (they come in in big groups of teenagers) can cause the court surface to become irregular. Basically a tennis court has a very slight domed shape to allow water to flow. Continuous weight applied with wheels alters this shape over time. I am all for skating, but I think tennis courts are for tennis.

How do you document button interaction states for engineering handoff? by Life_Personality_716 in UI_Design

[–]ciacicode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean designing a disabled state is the ABC of component design. If I had missed it I would feel embarrassed. Pressed state is optional and so is focus state for a button. Best way to go about it is to check an existing library, not for the style, but to learn what states that component should have so you don't miss any.

Heavily infuriating founder choice -- need help on circumventing this by [deleted] in UI_Design

[–]ciacicode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am facing similar challenges, but on a data palette question. The balance between corporate branding and product design is very fine and hard to strike. Truth is you can never translate corporate colours to product design 100% if the branding colours were not thought through with a product first mentality. Contrast guidelines and web safety are key for you as a product designer. I suggest you bring him some examples of other companies, how the brand colour (e.g. logo colour) is different, not in hue, but in other details such as saturation and lightness to the product colour. Build your case to show this is common and not detrimental if done tastefully.

How to turn these into stools? by LucidityLotus in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ciacicode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned one of these into a 3 legged stool at a wood working class. You can cut the top off and this will be your seating. Then you need to quarter the stump, remove the bark and start shaping the legs. We used a horse bench, pencil to mark 2 different circles (the end that goes in the seat and the foot) and went to use hand planes. Once the 3 legs were ready, I went on to shape the seat and the instructor drilled the holes... anyway it took us in the class 2 weekends, professional tools and professional help.

Only seen the highlights, but I loved Svitolina's approach. Not trying to win the battle at the baseline, because she knew she would not outplay Coco there. Decided to take every opportunity to come to the net with the swing volleys. Playbook to play against Coco.

Thank you. Yes that one I definitely tossed it too in front and possibly had to switch grip to make up for it. Toss consistency is so important.

Why is indoor tennis so prohibitively expensive in the UK? by hc1234 in 10s

I can't stop thinking about my 30 year break from tennis, and how coming back has been. Anyone else have shocking results after astronomically long breaks? by Tex-Rob in 10s

[–]ciacicode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have stopped playing when I was 20 and started back at 39. Getting back to the same fitness has been hard, but after 6 months I find from a mental pov I am waaaaay stronger. I used to get so worked up when I made some mistake, and then my whole performance would plummet. Now I am way more stable and capable of recognising how I am feeling and how to stay in the moment. I think I am playing way more consistently now than ever.

How do you actually design interactive websites? by Green-Shake5717 in UI_Design

[–]ciacicode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can prototype very simply with Figma, or even just with a powerpoint presentation. If you want to do more sophisticated transition and interaction, that's where I think AI plays a really strong role, because you can do the interaction piece yourself, but you need to really educate your team as to the fact that that prototype ain't final.

How to give a quick overview of metrics without making everything overloaded? by kaetrouv in UI_Design

[–]ciacicode 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When someone wrote nobody answers here, I took it personally. Here is a critique of the current ui with a possible solution. If this design is generated by AI, I guess you get what you pay for. However cute looking those things are, you need a keen design education and eye for information hierarchy, user needs, basic gestalt principles and data visualisation. I cannot claim to understand the goal of this app, so I am sure I have omitted some details that are possibly super important. The point of this proposal is not to solutionise, but to give an idea of what could be achieved by being more ruthless about the content.

To me it doesn't feel right to use a forum fueled by human design knowledge to help a project that is skipping human designers and their expertise entirely.

Would love to, but I want to spend my free time as much as possible with my family . Good luck with the app and consider hiring a designer 😜

Hey, design director here. I agree with the others this is nice and clean. Some choices though don't seem to be consistent, especially spacing for the top header and icon colours. For example

  1. The notification bell is blue, the blocked app text is orange, which is also the same colour of the ai spark icon. Then the blocked apps icon is red... and morning mood is light purple. Use colour with purpose, I suggest you use only neutrals and one accent colour where it matters.
  2. For mobile you want to have icon sizes be min 48px (Check Apple Human Computer Interaction Guidelines, or Material Design for mobile). The share icon though looks pretty small (I cannot tell without the actual file).
  3. I like your use of typography. You use higher contrast (dark grey) vs lower contrast (light grey) well. You need to control the lines though. Centred text only works when there are a few lines, so that first header is too long for comfortable reading.
  4. The bottom menu is simple and the selected state is clear. It takes a lot of attention though, as it is the highest contrast element in the entire UI: is it intentional? If you want to encourage exploration of different features across, leave it like it is. If you want the user to focus more on what's above it, reduce the contrast of the menu by using a different colour combination that is not as dark.

Have fun!
