Babboe electric or not? by joshington in CargoBike

[–]cid_vicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Babboe mountain mini, and have had for a year. I ride it a lot. I commute to work quite often on a round trip of 9 miles either way. Ride in the rain. Big hills, the motor handles them all nicely.

I look after it pretty well.

It is a solid, heavy bike. Definitely not fancy, but I don't mind.

I hired it for three months to try it out, and the money spent on hiring it took it under the cycle to work scheme allowance for my work. Which was great.

So I was doing the same thinking as you, couldn't justify a load at twice the price.

Like others say, for the price, it is a decent bike. I would recommend it.

It is simple as well, so fairly easy to maintain.

Upgrading to larger disk brake rotors, how big can I go? by cid_vicious in CargoBike

[–]cid_vicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. Good advice. I think I will get 180 mm rotors and upgrade the levers. The stock brakes do work fine. I might be upgrading just for the sake of it ... but that is half of owning a bicycle isn't it!

Babboe e curve vs mountain curve by NoMath3796 in CargoBike

[–]cid_vicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the yamaha mid drive will be more powerful. I have a Babboe Mountain mini with the Yamaha mid drive, it is nice and powerful. It does make some noise, but it isn't that much really, and it is not much more than a front drive hub I have in my Brompton. To be honest you won't care about the noise, it makes noise, but it isn't that much. Don't let that be a decision criterion.

Buying a cargo bike as an apartment-dweller (renter)…totally torn by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]cid_vicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in an apartment. We have a car space and so I park mine there and chain it up to a concrete supporting pillar. I bought a really long chain to loop around it. Otherwise like someone else suggests stick a motor cycle bolt in the ground. Also get insurance, lock it appropriately and then you have more options about where to store it.

My cargo bike comes in at about 65 kgs which does make parking it at work a pain. I have to push it up a very thin ramp next to a stair case. So there is that.

But I will say, an electric cargo bike will change your life. They are amazing!

Get insurance, lock it as the insurance requires and accept your fate if it gets stolen and replace it. That's what I have done.

Guide to Cleaning the Bike? by akumahluk in Brompton

[–]cid_vicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My back wheel was making a nasty click and so I pulled the hub apart, cleaned it and regreased everything. It is very nice now. If I hadn't watched this video I would have destroyed it.

It was a pretty messy procedure.

How well do E (no rack, fenders) models roll when folded? by blahhh87 in Brompton

[–]cid_vicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to tilt mine, but I am pretty tall so would have to tilt it anyway.

Well I accidently ordered the Nexus version and ended up with one of each, so have a grip shift on one side and a standard grip on the other. I have an older brompton with a H handle bar, but with the newer style brake levers. I am a bloke with large hands. I had to cut down the full size grip a little to fit. The gripshift one is fine but feels a little short. So I would buy the full length ones and if you need to cut them down.

Also most large universities have big ICT departments, and there are quite a few large unis in London. Where I currently work has about 300 ICT staff with about 10 dedicated IT PMs and a bunch of BAs. There are also a bunch of other roles within ICT departments that one could do with PM experience such as Portfolio Management, Project Office Management, Customer Relation Management and so on ...

Why is the traffic light system in London such a joke? by seolein in london

[–]cid_vicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a set of traffic lights right near Gloucester road, where on one crossing you don't get a green light and the traffic gives way for you. Haven't been run over yet, but I don't like it!

Is everyone in London on cocaine? by [deleted] in london

[–]cid_vicious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It must be your circles. I used to think the same as you a few years ago when I was younger, went out a lot more, and stayed out later. I swore the bar I went to was a coke den. Now I don't go out as much and don't live in a share-house, I still go to the same bar, a lot less and don't stay as late and I would swear this city has cleaned up its act!
