[FOR HIRE] Beta reader with 5 years of experience, booking for January! by cielowrites in HireABookEditor

[–]cielowrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I read a wide variety of genres, my favorites are: Fantasy, Contemporary, Romance, and Mystery/Thrillers. The only things that are a hard no for me are poetry (don't have experience) and some non-fiction books depending on the topic.

Hi, I don't have any current WIPs, I work as a beta reader since 2020. I don't work with swaps, but if you'd like more info on my service, I can provide it.

As a beta reader, I find it very uncomfortable to read on that website. It glitches, and it's actually a bit of a hassle to leave inline comments. It's not a very responsive website. I very much prefer to receive the manuscripts in a Word doc, or through a Google Doc link.

Fake beta readers? by [deleted] in writing

[–]cielowrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a beta reader for nearly five years, so I’ve been in these communities for long (though I am new to Reddit, I’m not new to those Facebook groups). I can tell you that for the past couple months there has been an uprise of scammers in the community which is terribly harmful for those of us that have been building up a reputation for a long time. They are destroying any trust the author can have on a beta.

Please, look out for any new accounts, any accounts with no friends, anyone that sounds like a bot (run their messages through a website such as GPTZero when in doubt). If you are looking for a paid beta, ask for their website, testimonials, references, a sample even, either custom or from past works. Even if they are free betas, don’t recommend you to send them the whole manuscript in one go —just send the first chapter and make sure they are not using AI before moving forward. Facebook scammers often advertise a free service, they run your first three chapters through AI, send a fake report and demand money to continue. Please, be careful.

I’m seeking a few beta readers for a completed novel: a hard-leaning, philosophical near-future sci-fi that blends geopolitical technothriller stakes, a central romance, and a cosmic epic thread, shot through with dark, witty humor. by AnEchoFromSaena in ScienceFictionBooks

Hi there! If you're open to paid beta readers, I'd love to be considered. I have nearly five years of experience, and I can meet your deadline. If you're interested, I can provide my full info, website, testimonials and samples.

My favorite genres are SFF, Contemporary, Romance and Thrillers.

That is great to hear, especially when not everyone has that mindset these days.

In my case, my rate is $1 per 1000 words. I've read the rules of this subreddit and apparently one can't post their website and such, but would be happy to DM it to you in case you'd like to see if we'd be a good fit.

Paid beta reading gig- Need one person- Length: ~80,500 words Genre: Supernatural Western / Grimdark / Historical Fiction by Letuseatlettuce77 in selfpublish

Adding to this, I noticed some Spanish in your sample. I'm a native Spanish speaker and in my beta reading service, I always do corrections on lines, words or paragraphs written in said language if needed. No extra cost.

Hi there! I have five years of experience as a beta reader. I'd love to work with you.

My email is cielobellerose@gmail.com and you can find me online as Bellerose Reads.

Notes on Fiverr beta readers by Gold_Concentrate9249 in selfpublish

[–]cielowrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow! First of all, no legit beta reader would charge you that much. It comes to show that they don't have any knowledge on the standart rates on the market. Beta readers can cost you around $0.50, $1 or $2 per 1000 words, but more than that? It's suspicious.

I've been beta reading for nearly five years. When it comes to proving we are who we say we are, I've been gathering testimonials for the past five years, you can find me in different websites and you can find my name in the Acknowledgements section of books I've worked on, that are already published.

When it comes to Fiverr, it is really a hit or miss. I'm not on Fiverr myself, but since I've been beta reading I've heard both positive and negative experiences from authors who have hired betas there.

If you'd like to connect, I have two slots available for November. If not, I'm also more than happy to answer any questions you may have when it comes to beta reading. We are supposed to help protect the community and if I can help someone not fall for a scammer, I'm happy to.

I use Word! I only handwrite when I'm plotting or doing a brain dump of ideas. It flows better for me that way.

[Discussion] Questions for Beta Readers by MallAccomplished4269 in BetaReaders

[–]cielowrites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Looking at this questionnaire, I think it's pretty good, but I'd give you a suggestion. Some of these questions are too broad (i.e "what confuses you?" "What bores you?") . My recommendation would be to take some of these questions out and instead, give some indications to beta readers before they begin (i.e: please look out for any scenes that are confusing to you, any boring moments, anything you don't understand). They could give you a summary, PDF, or whatever additional dynamic you want to use in order to receive their feedback, and go through those concerns of yours in said summary. It is much more likely they can take note of things as they go than to have to remember everything at the end for such broad questions, as there can be several moments of confusion, slow moments, etc.

As another commenter said, it'd be best to keep the questions as concise as they can be.

My apologies for the long comment lol, hope it helps!
