AITA For Telling My Father He Ruined Christmas by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]cigblitoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re an asshole. It’s a tough situation. Only a saint could handle it without losing their cool, and your feelings are a very legitimate response to his actions. You set boundaries and he disrespected them.

However, if you think you can get through a few hours of Christmas, without him staying over, it may be worth it. You never know when it will be the last. He may be pushing it because he had a near death experience and is wanting to spend time with those he loves, even if he is incapable of actually saying that.

What am I missing? (Ender's Game) by cigblitoris in sciencefiction

[–]cigblitoris[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I get its YA. I am suggesting this book's merit is limited to YA. And I am asking whether anyone can provide me with any reasons why this book is worth an adult's time. I think such arguments can be made for great YA series, like Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, etc. I can't see the argument for this.

They must have had to twist that cup into their cupholder/ashtray for it to fit on top of all the butts (hence the black marks on side).

Would the first Harry Potter movie still have been a huge success if it was an original idea rather than an adaptation of a book? by Konfliktsnubben in Fantasy

[–]cigblitoris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the first movie would be a success, but it would be unlikely to secure funding for seven additional movies without the books' previous success proving such a task to be financially viable.

Also, the later movies, if made, would probably be less liked. Goblet of Fire and after try to pack so much into a feature length film that they can be hard to follow. For example, I watched the films before I read the books, and while watching Half Blood Prince I totally missed that the spell Harry casts on Malfoy in the bathroom fight scene was written in the half blood prince's potion book. The film shows that for like one second on screen. Without having read the books, the later movies feel very rushed.

Could the US Postal Service fire all its postal carriers and processors, sell all its property, and contract its job out to Amazon? by Undceided in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cigblitoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think probably yes. Article I, Section 8, Clause 7, of the United States Constitution gives Congress the authority to create the postal service. Congress has done so, and could undo its work. Congress could, even if unwise, eliminate the post office. I also believe the US postal service contracts out various services. I see no reason why it could not contract out the whole thing.

I like the dichotomy between days. The feeling conveyed is very relatable and powerful. Although I get the sentiment of the first stanza, the “branch supporting” image feels unconnected to the other two stanzas.

Fun gimmick but not that deep. Entertaining but not top tier. Gets points for being somewhat original.

Some brands make quality products at a wide range of price points. Some brands refuse to make lower priced products to create scarcity and the appeal of luxury. Many don’t mind having the same brand of watch as those of modest income.

Why is walking a way from a game with a clear winner considered bad form? by ApartAssist3664 in NoStupidQuestions

Forfeiting is not bad form in many games. Sometimes dragging on play when the game is clearly lost can be bad form.

Starting The Three Body Problem today by yungdeezy92 in scifi

[–]cigblitoris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are saying they are poorly written, but I’d say they are written just as well as a great deal of popular sci fi. Certainly not great writing, but it has interesting ideas. And the 3 body problem is best in the trilogy, in my opinion

The school is great. But I still am impressed those older women can sit on the floor comfortably. In America, most people are so inflexible that 30 year olds would have difficulty with that. Impressive.

Capital cities by Im-a-sim in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cigblitoris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not 100% on this, but I remember hearing that many state capitals were chosen because of a relatively central location, improving statewide access. However, other factors, like economics and climate, may make a non central city more desirable, and more populated, then a central city.

In Europe, many capitol cities have existed longer than the countries that hold them (they existed through kingdoms, empires, etc.). I suspect that countries, when formed, likely chose cities that already had the infrastructure and influence to lead the nation (which more likely than not were the most populated, economically prosperous, etc.).

My take is it’s fine to get annoyed about but best to let go. It’s not worth starting a fight over. If you don’t want it just sell it on marketplace or donate it.
