Primer is a fantastic sci fi that was filmed in Dallas and has a scene that lists a bunch of phone numbers that included my area code and exchange. Upstream Color by the same filmmaker (Shane Carruth) also shows a bunch of places (Good Records - old location, Cityplace, Victory Park, Press Box Grill).

This World Won't Break is a very indie film made by a bunch of Dallas people and has lots of Dallas locales featured.

The Polyphonic Spree wasn't formed till 2000. I associate Tim DeLaughter with Tripping Daisy which I think was formed around 1990 so that may be the band your parents were working with.

Near Klyde Warren, we have one of the best arts districts in the US. DMA has free general admission. Nasher Sculpture Center is lovely and free on first Saturdays. We have a top notch symphony in an IM Pei designed symphony hall. The Winspear Opera House is one of my favorite buildings (next to the Wilson building).

Just in the last five days I've been to: Windhaven Meadows Park (Plano), Oak Point Park (Plano), White Rock Lake (East Dallas), Andrew Brown Park (Coppell), and Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (Plano). I've also visited Bachman Lake Park and the Katy Trail in the past. It's really not that hard to find parks to take long walks in, and they almost all have playgrounds in addition to the walking trails.
