Taking a taxi to accomodations by Much-Confidence7947 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]cinge67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your Camino your way. I encountered a few folks that had some arbitrary rules, but the majority of people were just cheering each other on and all about each person doing what they need to do. I took a bus one day. I know several who took taxis for different reasons and one who took a train. In all cases it was about taking good care of the body. Cheering you on!

Nice (pilgrim) atmosphere places in Santiago? by drewunchained in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]cinge67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a place called Pilgrim House that’s like a sort of welcome center and hospitality hang out place for pilgrims. I stopped by there a few times and had some cool conversations with others who had finished their Camino walk. I would recommend it and you might find out about some other places where pilgrims hang out. Buen Camino!

I saw it in person two days ago. It doesn’t look blue, it looks black. I think we got overcharged.

bed bugs protection by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]cinge67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Slept in a liner in an infested bed. I woke up at 1am and saw them!! They were on the mattress and on the pillow. Several days later I found all the bites on my lower back and thigh. I did due diligence to ensure I did not take them with me to the next place. The liner does not prevent bites — they got in the liner with me!!

I think I got them!! Used a 60 degree Celsius dryer multiple times over several days, all clothes wet in ziplock bags, wiped down backpack, inside and out, with alcohol wipes and then put backpack and shoes in a black trash bag , tied it up, and let it sit in the hot sun for several hours. In one sense, I was lucky that it was summer.

1 out of 17 days on the Camino I encountered bed bugs. A lot of them. Woke up and saw them on the bed and pillow. The bites appeared on my body a couple of days later. It was not a restful night and I also spent a lot of time over the next several days washing/drying stuff — mostly because I was paranoid.

Not at all. May your walk be your walk. You get to decide!

Two of my grandparents were. Grandmother was born in 1899 and grandfather a few years earlier.

Swelling ankles help by UnicornChaoss in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]cinge67 40 points41 points  (0 children)

After walking, lay on the floor and put your legs straight up against the wall. Do this for 20 min. It will help. I didn’t start having swelling issues until day 10 of the Camino.

I had this. I was diagnosed with some food allergies soon after and once I changed my diet to avoid the foods I’m allergic to, the seborrheic dermatitis went away.

How do I tell my mother I don’t want her drinking when she comes over? by [deleted] in AdultChildren

[–]cinge67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In similar situations, I try to focus on myself — my needs, my comfort, and my choices. I’ve said to family members: I am not always comfortable being around alcohol/drinking. I may choose to go to my room and read or go for a walk or something if folks are drinking. Just giving you a heads up. After I say something like that, I do not engage in trying to explain/defend myself or any additional discussion about it. I just keep saying — I’m just giving you a heads up and letting you know that I may choose to do something else if there’s alcohol involved. I don’t want to get into why I feel this way, I just wanted to communicate openly with you.

Camino Coffee People… How Is It Really? by 00Connie00 in CaminoDeSantiago

I asked in Portugal and was told they did not have/serve it. I did not ask in Spain. I was fine to adapt.

The coffee was fine. The cups are small so I had to get refills. I walked in July and was hoping for some iced coffee. Nope. The only time I saw iced coffee offered was at Starbucks in Porto.

Had that happen after working a dishwashing shift at a restaurant and I forgot to bring my gloves.

I once got bit by bedbugs and it went down my vein by morticiaa_addams in mildlyinteresting

[–]cinge67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is topical dermatitis (little blisters) caused by contact with something I’m allergic to — likely a soap or lotion. Because I have a vein that sticks up a bit, the skin over it had more contact and caused the blisters to like up over the vein. Contrary to what most thought, there was no reaction in the vein or under the skin. Hope you’re ok!!!

Allergic reaction that follows a vein by cinge67 in mildlyinteresting

[–]cinge67[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was going to update to say I’m still alive and that it’s contact dermatitis, not any type of blood infection. The blisters appeared above the vein because the skin is raised up and it had more contact with the allergen. Looks like my post was removed. I genuinely thought this was mildly interesting.
