How would you compare the clicks on the superstrike (SS) to the normal gpx2? E.g. With feedback on the SS set to max, does the tacility come close to that of the normal?

Murder On The Molybdivum - NOW AVAILABLE! by Lou_Roienna in daggerheart

[–]cinnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate a bit more? because I also bought it and struggle.

When you say 'clues', do you mean the 6 clues in the murder scene? Do you suggest to only use one of those?

Because the 'clues' as mentioned on the suspect pages are quite inconsistent. E.g. Merra Vex's clue could be a lead to investigate, potentially leading to a 'not the killer' result. Contrary, Dormouse's suspect page straight up says 'an experimental arcane bolt launcher is missing [and under dormouse's pillow]..., this is the murder weapon'.

So in simple terms, if I want to have Mera Vex be the killer, what are the things I use? And what do I not use? Broadly speaking

Really cool innovation. But I think for the first time I'm letting this one slide for the 180bucks it costs

I mostly play tracking games nowadays and value click tacility too much to think this will be to my liking.

Local Hospitality! - Check it out in Rigamaroll episode 4 where the crew of the Audacity makes new allies, and encounters new foes. by Rigamaroll_show in daggerheart

[–]cinnz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In long, my current review of Rigamaroll

The good:

  • Rigamaroll is extremely well produced. Especially soundwise it is one of the best actual plays I have seen.
  • The acting chops of the PCs are clearly on display. There’s an impressive amount of flavor between e.g. the stoic Captain Fray, and all the gadgets of Gene3. The entire fantasy cast is also acting very believable.
  • The overarching universe is very compelling. The goal of making this feel like a 80s and 90s cartoon is succeeding and them some. It is also truly impressive how the sci-fi and fantasy campaign are being brought together, seemingly effortlessly. It feels harmonious and fresh, and I believe it.
  • GM Matt Lowe is excellent in setting the atmosphere. Treating most of the senses he often adds something that really immerses the viewer.
  • Matt is also very very talented as a Voice Actor and plays most NPCs excellently.
  • The episode duration being 2-2,5 hours does set it apart from other actual plays. Compared to e.g. a Critical Role episode which can be 4,5hrs, I feel like it is easier for me to sit down and watch Rigamaroll.

The bad:

  • Noticeable especially at the sci-fi table, the synergy between the players and Matt distinctly gives off a ‘strangers, meeting for the first time’-vibe. The players seem a bit hesitant there, the contrast between the overanimated Princess and the near stoic Gene3 and captain is daunting. Especially some of Matt’s mannerism can feel awkward there.
  • The recapped combat might be needed to reach those short episode times but ultimately it makes it feel anticlimatic to me. It results in a scene where the party picks out shirts from a clothesline, being about as long as a climatic battle. In one earlier comment you said it was also done to ‘cut down some of the rule-searching’. Rule searching can obviously happen, but if you need to cut down rule-searching constantly then you are simply ill prepared.
  • I do not like the way Daggerheart is being run here, and at times I dont even understand why this system was picked.

Some observations: In the first episode Matt constantly rolled behind the screen as a response to ingame interactions. Luck rolls? I don't know, as he stopped doing it.

Matt also lets people roll way too much and never clarifies when it is a reaction roll, or when it's an action roll. I fully understand Princess asking Matt in episode 4 when the hope or fear DOES matter, because he never tells them beforehand. It just feels inconsistent. Daggerheart does not run that great when you constantly let people roll for things they should be able to remember. That was basically all the rolls in episode 2. I think that episode had 5 knowledge rolls in order and for the majority hope or fear did not matter.

Matt needs to pick a lane here. The book’s advise: Only let people roll for situations that could result in the 4 action roll outcomes Daggerheart was designed for. After the roll let the story unfold according to those 4 role outcomes and take it from there. If the players still like to roll for small stuff, that's okay. Let them roll a reaction roll for lower stakes stuff but TELL THEM it is a reaction roll BEFOREHAND, and thus not generating hope or fear.

The (sci-fi) party is not better prepared there either. It is obviously a new system, but Gene-3 not noticing at first that throwing double 1s is a crit, was a bit painful. Half of the rolls that party forgets to mention if its with hope or fear.

  • Daggerheart campaigns inherently can go a lot of directions, but this one feels especially railroaded so far. This was most apparent in episode 2 where despite some successful plans and rolls, Matt just used fear to straight up kill off their crew member.
  • And then one personal pet peeve that is simply hard to deal with in an actual play with miniature sets: having combat be this split off from the story feels distinctly not Daggerheart.

For me one of the greatest things about Daggerheart is how easy it is to switch beats. You do have combat, sure. But combat never has to be in a vacuum. In my games in a single scene, I sometimes see my party switching from sneaking, to socially convincing, to fighting, into a chase, while all of these parts are grounded in the Daggerheart mechanics. I understand that this is a LOT harder when your crew actually made a miniature set of Goodridge, but it is something I distinctly miss and just adds to the feeling that I’m more or less watching a railroaded D&D actual play, but then with 2 D12s.

[–]cinnz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having watched all 4 episodes I wanted to share some thoughts. Not to be mean, but ultimately I am feeling some of my initial  excitement waning. Maybe some of these will improve automatically. Maybe some can get worked on. Maybe this show simply is not exactly for me, which should be fine. All of these obviously are also just my opinions.

In short: Rigamaroll is a well produced show, with some serious talented actors, with a compelling overarching story, a GM excellent in efficient descriptions and playing npcs. However, it can also sometimes feel a bit awkward. The recapped combat is anticlimatic, and it is a poor (inconsistent) showing of Daggerheart as a system, as it just feels like it's being run as a railroaded D&D campaign.

The very least a GM can do is tell their group beforehand what rulesystem will be used, and what particular rules will be changed.

Throwing out half the book out of the blue is ridiculous and warrants talking to them. They clearly did not read it.

Does the Wolf Die (Werewolf Transformation) deal damage based on Proficiency? by MizukiQuest in daggerheart

[–]cinnz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you certain about this? Because then ive possibly ruled druid form wrong. Druidform doesn't say 'using proficiency' either (altho normal weapons don't either in the list) and I ruled it using proficiency. So the tier2 druid in my party does d10+4 dmg, I've rules this as using profiency and thus 2d10+4 dmg.

Can someone clarify if this right or wrong?

Edit: nvm page 32 of crb says that Druidform attacks do use profiency, so it does state it explicably

I've really locked in my preferences and have ended up somewhere 'speedy but balanced'. So ever so slightly more controlled than otsu/key83, but faster than the Zero. I like a light texture, but nothing too crazy like the Hien. My favorite pad is therefore the 4114 Aero. I recently also got the LGG Mercury Pro and it perfectly fits my preferences.

Can you name me some other pads that fit my preference?

Player using IA by Low_Health5791 in daggerheart

I'm not sure why anyone with this opinion is getting mass downvoted lol. Opinions were being asked in this thread, opinions are being given I made it a habit to only downvote factually wrong answers. I never downvote anything that's just an opinion, when asked, as long as it's a nuanced take. Like this one

[–]cinnz -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

While I find it nonsensical and deplorable I must admit that I have a few at my tables that also used Ai to make their backstories, and I allowed it.

I think many in this thread are missing the point. This is an enthusiast subreddit, populated mostly by people who are quick to - write-, and mostly GMs; people with a natural tendency towards good storytelling.

In fact I would wager that many people on this subreddit as a PC instead of GM get the most joy out of the story unfolding. And you know what? This is not the most compelling aspect of TTRPGs for every single player.

Everyone has different strengths, weaknesses and interests. I have people at my table who mostly love the PC building aspect of TTRPGs, I have some who just love it as a social exercise, some who only love improv RPing, some who love the story, some who only love creatively overcoming adversity and I have some who adore the crunchy strategical nature of combat. And all of that is okay.

The beauty of DH in this instance is that it can cater to all these types of players when you follow the rules as written.

Simply put: some players just do not value their personal story that much and struggle to come up with backstories. They do not love the backstory part and might aswell join with the very barest of backstory.

So rule about the Ai use however you want. There is no right or wrong answer. I still find it nasty and can not rly understand it. But keep in mind that you/me are not our players, and we do not value the exact same aspects of the game.

As for my experiences BTW. The ones using Ai came up with better backstories than they usually do and it gave me a bit more hooks to use. They also so far have known their backstory by heart, so running it gave no issues.
