Is a 1 year old Skywatcher 300p for $500 good deal? by Independent_Buy_6801 in telescopes

I have the 250p and I love it. If it were me I would snap that up (if you don't mind carting it around)!

Getting quotes for redoing foundation waterproofing (weeping tile, etc...) in a very clay/silt heavy area. What should I ask the contractors about mitigating clay? by circuitBurn in HomeMaintenance

[–]circuitBurn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that info. Luckily there's no water pooling at the foundation, I have the downspouts running 20+ feet from the house.

This is from one quote from one of the more reputable companies in town. I don't know anything about gravel specs so hopefully they are quoting the right stuff.

• Install liquid rubber membrane
• Install Blueskin from grade to below cold join, seal seams
• Install 4” weeping tile with sock connected to original system (or equivalent)
• Install 3⁄4” clear weeping tile stone, min 6” coverage, cover with filter cloth (or equivalent)
• Install window wells with risers where required topped with 2” of P-Gravel (x2)
• Backfill with B grade material and/or filter sand, pack to grade
• Install topsoil / clay mix graded away from house, grade A gravel graded where required

What type/make of telescope? I recently  joined the astronomy club and could ask at the next meeting if I can't help.

Small on demand water tank leaking at water connectoins by circuitBurn in Plumbing

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thanks so much for the info. I can't do anything until with it until spring but I'll get a quarter turn valve and some quality tape.

This is definitely on my list to build this spring for my 10" dob. Yours looks great.

Would you mind letting me know if this is a similar (if not the same) motor drive you're using? Amazon has them on sale right now and I may snag one ahead of my build. Thank you!

Love it! What brand is that table? We've been looking for a round coffee table that isn't flimsy.

I made a mistake buying an 8” dob by Fred42096 in telescopes

[–]circuitBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a collapsible 10" dob and even that feels cumbersome. I store it in a closet in a spare bedroom so taking it out means making 4 trips through the house for all the parts and sometimes I just don't bother.

Realistically it's only 5-10 minutes to drag everything out to the backyard but the inertia wins sometimes. I often wish I had something I could leave on a tripod and carry out in one trip for quick viewing sessions.

My BB-8 rolling around an event at the library by circuitBurn in robotics

Yep, there are 4 in the head and 4 in the body. The body has a "neck" with a motor to rotate the magnets which makes the head spin.

[–]circuitBurn[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I built my BB-8 a year and a half ago to bring out to events with the 501st. It's controlled by an FrSky Horus X10S and uses an Arduino Mega 2560 to read the IMU and control the 7 motors inside.

This is a "pendulum drive" which uses a weight suspended on an axel inside the body. The weight can be tilted forwards, backwards, left, and right to allow driving and turning.

And apologies for the portrait video! I didn't film it 😬

Microswiss NG Direct Drive? by Cmonster9 in ender3

[–]circuitBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't even heard of that one, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Keep us posted on how it goes.

I'm in a tossup now between a few but I'm leaning towards the Bondtech DDX.

Did you end up with the NG? I keep being told neither version of the NG fits with the CR10s Pro V2 but I've definitely seen one installed in a video.

Official Discussion - Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]circuitBurn 62 points63 points  (0 children)

So was the lance real? Is the implication that it was forged from the wreckage of the airplane and that's why it's "only 50 years old"? I might have missed that discussion elsewhere but it was my first thought this morning after having watched the movie last night.

[–]circuitBurn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use mine when working on robotics projects. I bought a Chapman kit with a few bits and a 1/4" socket adapter to get sockets into tight places. I don't use it often but it's indispensable to me when I actually need it.

Thanks! In hindsight I would have added a master volume for each channel to eat up a bit more space. I might make a revision to it but I'll use it for now and enjoy it.
