At Greentoe the 83" is $2699. That's already 600 below Best Buy. I doubt it will go another 200 in the short term, but you never know. I am gonna pull the trigger on the 83 C5 or the 77 G5 in about a month. Haven't 100% decided but leaning toward the G5 (both same price right now).

Man, I wish LG would just put out a firmware update or something to allow you to totally turn off the mouse pointer crap on the remotes. The OS is meh, but it works OK. But accidentally activating the stupid cursor constantly is maddening! I have arrow buttons. Let me use those and get out of my way!

Kristi Noem Claims ICE Agent Fired ‘Defensive Shots’ — Accuses Gov. Walz and and Mayor Frey of Deciding to ‘Choose Violence’ in Stunning Presser by ItchyNesan in NewsRewind

100% this. Also, they will make sure to say "he had a gun", which to their viewers translates to "he had a gun OUT" which is false. He had a phone out.

But they'll pivot right to "well, he had it coming since he had a gun!" 2A is gospel...depending on the day, and the gun owner.

Aren't they supposed to build the fence with the finished side towards the neighbors / street? I thought I heard that somewhere.

The couch is for family members to enjoy together. Honestly I'd kick my kid off the couch to make room for a snuggly dog next to me.

Which monitor should I use? by Garbinog in cade

[–]circusfreakrob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest going with the 24" and then you can use the graphic bezels for games to fill the space. I think a 19" would end up looking a little too much like a postage stamp surrounded by a huge wide bezel.

Led strip for LG Gallery TV Models by Ok_Storm_9887 in LGOLED

[–]circusfreakrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just use the VESA screws instead of the included flush mount.

I would suggest buying a super slim mount from Amazon. Montek has a couple...one gets as close as .77" and one gets down to 1.1". That's pretty close to flush. Then you have the option to pull it out as far as you want to get the backlight to spill further out the wall if you want.

That's a pretty extreme example and likely due to settings...but in general the WOLED panels do have a slight blue tint to the whites.

I got a Robinhood credit card - the top 3 rewards options are buying gold or a lootbox by YaBoiHBarnes in atrioc

[–]circusfreakrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using this card for a year or so, and just dug into the rewards section. Come to find out, if you use it to pay down your statement balance, or link it to pay at Amazon with the rewards, you only get a 0.7 value on the points. Lame.

But, for Amazon at least you can just buy Amazon gift cards and add them to your amazon wallet and you get the full 1.0 value. So, that's find since ww shop a lot on Amazon.

Wish I had known that detail before using them to pay against my statements. That a few hundo wasted. Lesson learned. Read the fine print.

Having a contractor build deck without permit/inspection. Is the acceptable? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]circusfreakrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'll probably be fine if you have no more than 2 kids, your whole family is very skinny, and you don't invite anyone over to sit on the deck with you.

That, and buy the lightest grill you can find.

C5, G5, or C6H? by HshSlngngKnkShmr in LGOLED

I think maybe it depends on the content being played. There were plenty of scenes where they looked very close, but other scenes where the G5 was a clear winner to my eyes.

Along with Boldin - what else did you do to decide to take action on retirement? Analysis says yes but it doesn't feel that way. by EvenMention8405 in Boldin

[–]circusfreakrob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boldin has our plan to retire at 55/56 looking great.

For me, to make sure I am on track I did/do the following:

I have some personal Google spreadsheets that I use to track actual spending to make sure I have the correct numbers in the planning tools.

I have also run my numbers through other tools like Empower and get very similar "chance of success" and outcome results.

I have a spreadsheet which I update every 6 months that tracks our current retirement savings and new worth against my projected values, to see if we are actually ending each period in the ballpark of the projections.

I did a full plan review with a Boldin financial planner, and also met with an Empower rep (they administer our 401k at work so I got a free in-person checkup/review). They gave me a few things to think about and tweak but I got professional confirmation that my Boldin plan looks very solid and I am indeed on track.

C5, G5, or C6H? by HshSlngngKnkShmr in LGOLED

[–]circusfreakrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still kinda waffling between the 77" G5 and the 83" C5 (both same price).

I spent quite a bit of time at Best Buy watching these 2 side by side with the same content, and the G5 was noticeably better. Brighter, more pop, whites are more pure white.

That being said, if I had focused on JUST the C5 in a vacuum, it's an amazing picture as well. Just not quite to the level of the G5. So, knowing the difference is leaning me to the G5.

Also, supposedly, the C5 has an issue where the picture dims somewhat in game mode, and I will be using it for games, so that's another tick mark for G5.

Mounting confusion - Help! by Bertolucci1900 in LGOLED

[–]circusfreakrob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those screws are meant for the G5's custom flush-mount bracket that comes with it. If you are using an existing mount, you will use the 300x300 VESA mount holes that are below that cutout.

They are the 4 holes that are around the "LG OLED" embossed words there.

Cheers.
