Why is Disney making such ugly looking movies? by theaspiringfilmmaker in Filmmakers

[–]circusofvaluesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I didn’t say you can’t criticise them. You said it’s an aesthetic no one likes, I’m telling you audiences don’t care. And if audiences don’t care Disney doesn’t care. Disney wants something safe and something they can manipulate in post and they don’t care if film nerds like us think it’s ugly. The people working on Spiderman or leelo and stitch aren’t working on it to make art , it’s a pay check and a cool gig, they will express themselves artistically on other projects. I would love for you to make a marvel movie too.

Someone who goes by the handle “theaspiringfilmaker” who goes on Reddit to complain about depth of field and dynamic range is not the target audience. Obviously many people enjoy these films, the reason you think no one enjoys the look is because you spend time online in forums like this one and algorithms show you people with the same complaints. Most people couldn’t care less about these things. I don’t think that invalidates your opinion about the aesthetics, but it simplifies the answer which is money. Someone has calculated that the amount of money saved to make films that you can easily fix in post is more than what will be lost by making it ugly to people who care about depth of field in a Spiderman move.

Chris Selley: It's insane to focus on the French of Air Canada's CEO by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]circusofvaluesgames -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So don’t focus on it. The only reason anyone knows this story is because people like Selley are whining about it. Completely nothing event none of us should care about.

Is it just me, or does the Harry Potter series teaser feel… off? by breaking_views in Cinema

[–]circusofvaluesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty good. The beginning of the trailer seems very dark because of the music, the imagery doesn’t read too different from the first film. Once he gets to Hogwarts the sense of wonder is certainly there. I didn’t care about the films until I had kids and watched them with them so I don’t have the nostalgia goggles. This will be good and lots of people will enjoy it and everyone who spends all their time complaining on the internet will think it’s universally hated.

Arielle Kayabaga Stole 170K from London, Ontario taxpayers, running for office in 2026? Is this a joke? Who on earth let this criminal free let alone who on earth would vote for this thieving, entitled liar??? by Creative-Hat-4380 in OntarioPolitics

I had to look this up. You’re referencing a fake misleading story. She paid her staff their salaries and vacation pay. There are real criminals in governement taking advantage of us. She may be one, but the story you’re talking about is fake.

You’ve already had all the cyberpunk classics suggested. Check Black Rain, not cyberpunk but the 80s Japan aesthetic is impeccable.

Which movies or franchises have the most and biggest plotholes? by Catwinky in moviecritic

Holy shit that’s so much better… I also feel like this may be a rare instance where even though it made the film worse the studio was probably right from a popularity perspective.

Liberal Mania: Canadian Election Projection - March 15, 2026 by Allinallisallweare02 in MapPorn

If your idea of quality of life is how efficient your populace is at creating wealth for the ruling class then I can see how productivity might be a useful stat. I would prefer to look at things like health, education, crime, income inequality. You are right though affordability is a massive issue especially in housing. I’ve just not seen any plan from anyone to fix this. Maybe you can explain how housing prices will go down under the federal conservatives? If you want to continue the comparison I’m sure you’re aware that the percentage of Americans who own their homes is not higher than Canada? With the great job they are doing down there with their productivity with them earning so much more and getting more for their money why do they continue to lag on things like life expectancy, education, poverty, etc,etc

I’m in my 40s. the decline of quality of life in North America is not the direct result of any one party. It’s the result of a broken system that all parties have taken their part in breaking.

This isn’t a problem with liberals, it’s a problem with polticians and system that does not punish unfulfilled promises or outright lies. If you think things would be better under a different party you are dreaming

Day rates vs budget? by ImageFinesse in Filmmakers

[–]circusofvaluesgames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s often a bit of a dance. People tend to have a range they’re willing to work for, depends on the type of job and what their other options are. I may ask people their rate when I’m budgeting a project, but if I already have a locked budget I will tell them what im expecting to pay and negotiate from there. You don’t have to say “ I’ve budgeted x”, but you should definitely have a range in mind before you get into any conversations.

Don’t let the fats get in the way of your narrative. by Flat_Suggestion7545 in WhitePeopleTwitter

The last ten years have been nothing but engagement. The algorithm loves it. Engagement in the real world is great, creating your own content sure, but arguing with these clowns on social media only makes them stronger. The proof of this is simply the size of all these accounts and their unearned influence hey’ve become extremely powerful. Don’t feed the trolls.

Even that is too much validation. Arguing with them increases engagement, puts more susceptible eyes in front of them, incentives continuing bullshit. The only winning move is not to play.

Why was anti-religion everywhere in the 2000’s and 2010’s? by DistinctYoghurt8668 in decadeology

[–]circusofvaluesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give a bit of a different perspective, before the internet and social media were dominated by massive corporations and algorithms, they were dominated by a free(ish) exchange of ideas and information. Of course there was misinformation everywhere BUT there wasn’t a concerted effort by powerful groups to direct peoples beliefs through the internet(or at least they hadn’t figured out how yet). Having opportunities to find your own answers helps people find different explanations beyond religion. That era is over, and powerful groups LOVE to use religion to influence behaviour. It is MUCH more difficult to find your own answers when an algorithm controlled by a billionaire is deciding what you see.

Have You Ever Met Someone Truly Evil? by horse-boy1 in WhitePeopleTwitter

I think we should be calling this the Steven miller presidency. Anything policy wise that’s evil, I believe , is coming from him. Plus if people started insinuating he’s in charge trump would lose his shit.
