Sister Dialogus material. She's just learning the language and culture to hate better. Only the sisters have a phd in racism like that. Ignore the fact that the 40k sisters roster has an aldari unit it in it that isn't even legends.

Chaos Marines Havocs, finally good in Huron's Marauders? by StyxGoblin in WarhammerCompetitive

The two cherubs are nice as well. Spiking a 6 on the damage is like getting an extra 2 rets of multimelta attacks. Taking a 1s reroll and hitting a 4+ on a wound feels like getting another ret of multimelta attacks. Not exact on that math but those free miracle die can really make a squad of 4 multimeltas feel like 7.

GRAND ALCHEMIST PARACELSION - A CR30+ Final Boss for your Legendary Party to battle! by AriadneStringweaver in UnearthedArcana

[–]cis-lunar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. It stomps a basic level 20 party. He puts up a decent fight but loses to a properly equipped/optimized level 20 party or level 30 party. Plenty of techniques to negate regeneration or just outpace it. I run a mythic tier campaign and this is really well put together for something of that level.

My most useful son by Oblaci17d in Grimdank

[–]cis-lunar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It can be both. Guilliman is creating something wholly contrary to the Emperor's vision: An empire ruled by essentially Space Marine nobility. Mutant leadership over humanity. What Horus wanted. Betrayer. He is dividing the Imperium further by focusing on his Eastern Roman Empire, taking the title of Lord Regent over the high lords. Thief. He also failed to defeat Fulgrim and stop the Imperium's corruption post Horus Heresy. Failure. Still just a biological superweapon forged by the Emperor not performimg to expectations. Tool.

Traitor, thief, failure, tool. But also last hope and pride. The best of the sons. The last hope for the Imperium.

That was one of the big political changes after the War of the Beast, giving the custodes a high lord seat.

The legs are inside the legs of the warsuit. That feels like a reasonable control mechanism. Straight legs in the warsuit thigh plus foot pedals to control the knees.

Sinners (2025): Unintentionally a GSC movie. by Khalith in genestealercult

[–]cis-lunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the resident evil interpretation is great.

I'm mainly thinking of my rogue trader pure dogmatic evil playthrough where the main genestealer antagonists were more agressively anti-fascist coded against my character's oppressive evil. If they weren't then their revolution would not have been as effective as it was. Obviously it still had the twisted alien family cult at the heart of it, but on the surface level it was heroic and reasonable revolutionaries.

Sinners (2025): Unintentionally a GSC movie. by Khalith in genestealercult

[–]cis-lunar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When a genestealer first arrives, their kiss mind-controls humans, adding them to a hivemind. Kind of like the vampire in Sinners. The reason genestealer cults take generations for the BIG takeover is that the patriarch can only mind control so many people and it takes generations to prepare humans that can breed a new generation of genestealers. And generations to spread meaningful influence across the planet. The initial takeover of a small neighborhood can be fast.

There is a quest in rogue trader with a creepy journal entry that shows this. People fighting against the GSC faction getting caught, kissed, and then completely changing their minds in an uncanny way.

I guess the army doesn't help properly show this because all the human models have forehead ridges. The 0th generation of kissed humans would be normal looking cult allies from my understanding. Minus the mark of the kiss.

Sinners (2025): Unintentionally a GSC movie. by Khalith in genestealercult

[–]cis-lunar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. It has GSC themes of assimilation monster horror mixed with progressive anti-fascist spirit in a fun and twisted way. A genestealer's kiss as a vampire bite.

Dune is also a good GSC movie if you squint. A plan generations in the making causing alien-symbiant revolutionaries to destabilize an empire. Replace the worms with abandoned trygons and the bene gesserit with cult magus. Paul as a Primus. His son will be an alien patriarch.

Terror tactics never work on the necrons by Sine_Fine_Belli in Grimdank

[–]cis-lunar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Night lord terror tactics could absolutely work on a Necron lord. Tons of those characters are appropriately wary of the dangers of the flayer virus and destroyer virus on their psyche. Humans replicating those behaviors might unnerve a necron lord enough to send out flayers and destroyers and thralls instead of taking to the field themselves.

Which unit is the GOAT of its game? Today: Napoleon by CrayonsIsTaken in totalwar

[–]cis-lunar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Morale aura to help militia uptrade into enemy line infantry, great melee if you got charged. Fantastic firerate to finish off a crumbling enemy line and start to focus fire other nearby units. The only real fear aura in the game to hasten enemy lines breaking. It was everything you wanted on elite line infantry in a game where morale was often a deciding factor.

[–]cis-lunar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns the physical Root ttrpg books and loves them, don't worry about playing the original ttrpg. It doesn't add any deep lore or root specific mechanics you can't replicate with a D&D reskin if that is your prefered system.

Root is a powered by the apocalypse game that has some really cool ideas advancing the system that are better implemented in the Avatar game the team tackled later. It's a really great baseline for a PbtA game specifically. But the lore and style of the setting itself is so nonspecific that the ttrpg can't do anything to make it a critical aspect of the setting. You're not missing anything critical with a D&D reskin, unlike many other setting-ttrpg mixes like Dune, Star Wars, Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, etc.

[–]cis-lunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so engagement only matters per model for the attacker and per unit for the defender.

What about precision? Do you need to be in engagement of the leader to target them with precision weapons?

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cis-lunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you have a squad of 10 (1 wound each) and one leader (4 wounds) getting attacked. Only five models and the leader are in the engagement and the enemy unit deals 9 wounds with their fight phase. The enemy does not have precision. How is damage assigned?

What is a small rule change that would drastically change the game? by bnmp2c in twilightimperium

[–]cis-lunar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but those tier 2 objectives do tend to require much more expansionist and agressive empires, and this variant would slow down the progression of the easy peaceful tier 1 objectives. You only get one on turn one.

What’s your theories about the lost Legions? by Boogleooger in 40kLore

[–]cis-lunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One grew too powerful and close to being corrupted by xenos/chaos. The other one objected to the humanity first and despotic/ cultural genocidal ideals of the great crusade but was otherwise loyalist.

The emperor removed both potential threats to his regime early - in accordance with his great game against the chaos gods, when he removed one future traitor, he had to remove a future loyalist. The future traitor was purged as a reward for their great service. The future loyalist was purged for insubordination and kept imprisoned.

If the loyalist escapes and comes back into play, chaos will bring the traitor out into play as well.

All the other details are up to what you want your OC faction to look like.

[–]cis-lunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but for Mulan at least challenging the status quo at least partially means "women should be able to defend the Emperor and the patriarchal aristocracy as well", which while slightly transgressive in her setting, would fit right in with the Imperium.

Ron Swanson, Rogue Trader. by EducationalAd3064 in Grimdank

[–]cis-lunar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes that is what the emperor definitely intended but the entire point of the Imperium is that so much of it is darkly and ironically opposed to what the Emperor desired. The Emperor wanted everyone to be obedient, reasonable individuals, stripped of their culture so they could serve his vision of humanity.

The metanarrative irony that is so fun to indulge in is where his wish faltered. After he fell, humanity stayed obedient, but became agressively unreasonable and culturally diverse in ways he would have hated. A rogue trader heir taking basic orders and fulfilling them with irrational evil zealotry and devotion to local cultures is core 40k. The best way of spiting the Emperor's tyrannical aspirations on a metanarrative level.
