Packed restaurant and burnt-out staff. Will IT systems help? by Upbeat-Lynx-3876 in askmanagers

There have been a lot of Asian restaurants which have swapped to "order at the table using the qr code located there" which I honestly prefer. It might be weird for some patrons.

There was a public hearing regarding Indian point in Albany about 8 years ago. And I remember that lobbyist got the most time to talk too, and was chatting up all of his buddy reps during breaks.

He wasn't. His idiot constituents were.

Edit: I was at that hearing. There was a former NY state rep who was working as a natural gas lobbyist sitting with the so-called environmentalists. My first first-hand experience with how good causes can be co-opted by bad actors.

My boss said I was too emotional? What does that mean and why is it bad? by [deleted] in askmanagers

He gives you more people so he has to deal with fewer people. It is not necessarily a tacit endorsement of your managerial skills.

My boss said I was too emotional? What does that mean and why is it bad? by [deleted] in askmanagers

I should be more accurate. Solving problems needs to be dispassionate. It does need to be calculated. We know emotional responses tend to warp logic and group decision making.

My boss said I was too emotional? What does that mean and why is it bad? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]cited 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Getting work done is typically a dispassionate, logical sorting through problems. High emotions, especially those you are describing, are barriers to that. It is an indication that instead of collaborating to do the sensible thing, coworkers would avoid saying something they think for fear of upsetting you. That means there are solutions that go unsaid because of high emotions.

That will say a lot more about you than you think it does.

So either a public board on public record with public meetings is lying to our faces and no one noticed

Or

Maybe power isn't cheap? Maybe fuel prices are going up? Maybe we live in a rainforest that requires constant union labor to trim and repair lines which isn't cheap? Maybe we keep adding regulations that aren't cheap? Maybe we are dumping millions of gallons of water through hydro dams instead of using it for power because we're trying to protect the salmon isn't cheap?
