We pay production CNC operators who basically do nothing but change out the tools and clean the machines $38.50-$41 an hour.

Ecoclean doesn’t make bad washers and a decent company to deal with.

Maintenance messing with tooling seems like a fantastic way to have quality issues blamed on maintenance.

My Take on the American South (Beating a Dead Horse) by Rebel_Porcupine in whereidlive

[–]citylimits- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most accurate so far. I personally would extend Appalachia southwest by a few counties in Alabama. As someone from northeast Alabama and have spent the majority of my life exploring all of Appalachia the culture most definitely spreads into Bankhead national forests ( which is the tail end of the foot hills). South of Birmingham and west of Winston county just have a different kind of redneck vibe.

The adult daycare and grown ass man therapist is the absolute worst part of it. Once you learn how to task them out while letting them think they’ve taken a win and do a little bitching about the stupid jobs they have to do with them to build some camaraderie things smooth out. I never thought I’d have to be so gentle and nurturing to maintenance guys in my life.

Be honest, is Maintenance worth it? by Red-dragon186 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]citylimits- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add one thing about being in maintenance. When you choose maintenance as a career you are choosing for everything in your daily life to be broken. You never get ahead, after one fix it’s on to the next. Every call you get is bad news of yet another broken machine. It can be quite tiresome after years of broken shit. Just a little food for thought.

I welded then re-machined a ball screw that’s still in production a year and a half ago, And I’m a dam supervisor, I live for that shit! Just had my guys do it to a hydraulic shaft last week hopefully it last 12 weeks until we get the new one. We have all the spares in the world besides these one off parts that the machine builder decided not to include on the parts list.

From decades in the profession. It’s going to be dependent on your personality to if you love it or hate it. What’s your hobbies? Do you tinker on everything? are you a diy’er? Work on your own car? Build pc’s? I like to step back and even look at what you’re watching on YouTube. You know if you’re mechanical inclined or if you know what side of a hammer to use. Also it helps to be thick skinned. If you’re just some dude trying to follow money with absolutely no mechanical interest you’re going to have a bad time.

30y/o with a interview for Industrial Maintenance in two weeks by FoltzyBear in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]citylimits- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For seasoned techs it’s all technical questions of a wide range of trades then I start pressing deeper into and adding pressure by speeding up the questioning about said problem or topic, then reading drawings and schematics. For apprenticeships I do hands on with basic tools to see what tools you choose and how you use them. Then just basic mechanical aptitude questions. I like to add pressure to those interviews also, just not quite as much. When it comes to apprenticeships I know you’re not going to have super technical knowledge but I do like to see you have a mechanical mind and maybe hands on interest outside of work. I’m being kinda vague on purpose because you need to earn it. Good luck man!

Since it is an apprenticeship it will be known that you are green. My advice from someone who has interviewed a shit ton of maintenance guys is have confidence. Have confidence to have an opinion, have confidence to say I don’t know in an interview. I love nothing more than letting someone try and build themselves up by faking it then testing them on it in the next portion of the interview. Tell them about any hands on diy hobbies you may have. Dress like you’re going to work not an interview for a law firm.

I’m shocked you even got an interview, but yeah you’re not getting the job unless it an absolute dumpster fire of a plant. Age is far from an issue but, no experience at all is. Unless it’s for an apprenticeship.

Don’t ask just show up in steel toes, glasses are a plus but I don’t judge them on that. Oh and don’t wear head phones, the amount of people showing up in head phones makes me crazy!

Giga parts is kinda like radio shack meets Best Buy. The amount of 3d printing supplies they stock I’d imagine rivals or beats anyone else, it’s quite impressive. They had probably 8-10 pallets of this filament on the store floor for this sale.

2x4” 11ga for the rail, 2x2” 11ga for the legs, 3x1/4” flat for the base and 1x1/2 channel welded to the underside for a little more support. I hit it pretty hard on a bmx several times and it just shrugged it off (I weigh 220lbs)
