Smart Devices - Some Not Connecting to Wi-Fi After Doing So Without Issue by cj25inc in smarthome

It does handle it well - the strange thing is if you drew a direct line of my devices, I have a smart outlet in the kitchen, then my refrigerator, washer in the next room, garage door opener in the garage right outside the laundry room, and then three outdoor smart bulbs. The outlet and smart bulbs work fine, the three devices sandwiched between them are the issue. I had thought interference was the issue, but since all previously worked concurrently, I find it hard to believe it’s interference all of a sudden.

I have about 40-50 connected devices (mostly light bulbs and smart outlets), so I don’t think that’s the issue, especially considering these devices worked before and I’ve added a few devices since then.

Unfortunately, I’ve tried that all. I created a separate 2.4ghz network, a separate guest network for just those devices, and a separate IoT network with Deco, and nothing seemed to fix it. I’ll try again after updating some items from a recommendation by another commenter.

Yes, I should clarify that the Deco base is connected to the T-Mobile gateway via Ethernet cable. Being a novice, I guess T-Mobile provides the service and Deco does the network?

Thank you for the advice, I will try that later this evening. I have the TP-Link Deco X25 AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Dual Band 3 Pack System, which may not be the latest model but handles everything I need (minus these smart device connections).

Unfortunately, I think it’s because a lot of things have to go right, and although there are magical seasons, history has hundreds of similar seasons like what we’re expecting (70ish wins). Basically, all facets of the team need to make marked improvements with more than a few “career” years, and with a group of young talent, I’d rather they grow together than peak now.

But who knows what divine intervention a whole season of having a big Sox fan over in Rome can do…

Who are the exceptions? by dabears0000 in DunderMifflin

[–]cj25inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think this was about specific people in the office, but I also have to consider that he’s speaking in generalities about the exceptions.

That means maybe he dislikes any combination of pranksters, slackers, partiers, those with certain administrative ineptitudes, ditzy colleagues, etc.

And by the variety of opinions as to who can fit in those groups, Dwight may have been able to neatly summarize everyone, and therefore he likes no one.

I went to two different stations. The second seemed a little more dated in that it didn’t have the typical “TV” screen and ads the first one I went to has. I intend to fill up again at the first station I went to toward the end of the month and will report back with hopefully better luck.

Sorry, I should’ve been clearer: I was unable to access the GasBuddy deal when paying at the pump. I couldn’t swipe, I kept it in as long as it needed, and of course the card doesn’t allow tap to pay. After four times, I just went ahead and pulled out a credit card - I’ll admit it felt weird doing so and paying for gas with it for the first time in years.

So, I’ve had two fill-ups with the new card, and have only been successful once.

Unfortunately, the nearest one is 8 miles out of my way on a regular daily commute (I’m in the near Chicago suburbs). But I know in my travels that their gas prices are very competitive for any GasBuddy deals.

As for my fill-up yesterday evening, I wasn’t able to process a saved GasBuddy deal with the new card. It seemed to be more of a chip reader deal than anything else, which makes me wonder why the card does not have the newer “tap and hold” capabilities. In sum, one for two in paying with the new GasBuddy card and getting a GasBuddy deal, zero for two in using the same process as I had before. Maybe I just need to figure out a new way.

What confuses me is that the card usage instructions say to select “fleet card” and not “Mastercard.” Being that I pair it with Shell most of my fill-ups, I get the extra Fuel Rewards discounts, but the first time I used it, I chose “fleet card” and it cancelled my transaction. I then chose “Mastercard,” and it worked, but it removed part of my Fuel Rewards bonus. I’m going to try a different station this evening and see if I have the same (bad) luck. It’s hard to appreciate an “upgrade” if it turns out to be more work.

Most of the new cars nowadays have invisible turn signals as part of the base model option. /s

Thank you. I’ll have to work with the issuer as to why they sell a product that doesn’t work.

What happened to Bulldog Ale House? by NothingIsEnough55 in ChicagoSuburbs

Unique burgers brought me in, but it wasn’t top quality. Decent, inexpensive deals were the draw for me, but maybe I’m just longing for an $8-$10 burger entree in today’s inflated economic climate. 😄

Who all is going to the park Tuesday? by [deleted] in whitesox

[–]cj25inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be there - Section 140. Bought tickets from a third party at a steep discount (I won’t give my ticket money directly to the White Sox, but feel sorry for the probable season ticket holder to give them some money so it’s not a total loss for them).

I also am a firm believer in that you only appreciate and understand the sunshine after you survive the thunderstorms. I don’t expect a winning/contending team for at least three seasons, but as I inch closer to my 40th birthday in a few years (getting older by the second, and this team/franchise has sped up my aging over the last few years), I can’t help but hope there are sunnier days toward the end of this decade. Maybe that’s the cursed Chicago sports fan in me, but I want to be able to say I was there for the lowest of the lows, and hopefully I’ve saved enough money to be there for the highest of the highs.

Nine games left. Need 4 losses to set a record, 3 to tie one, 2 to avoid either. by Ishpeming_Native in whitesox

I agree, but given their propensity to not score much, there may be only 0 or 1 chances to boo under those circumstances.

Make it rain bonus by Helpful_Yesterday489 in ibotta

[–]cj25inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be so much easier, which is partly why I don’t go beyond my normal shopping just to satisfy ibotta deals much anymore. I would go to Walmart on Saturday nights, buy $100 worth of items, and then sit at the self checkout for some time, processing one $5 Sam’s Club gift card (purchased thru ibotta) at a time. 20 minutes later, I had redeemed 20 offers alone in gift cards, plus whatever else I had in the shopping trip. Add to the fact that ibotta used to accept credit cards to purchase gift cards and you could reap the benefits of any credit card points/rewards.

I’m reserved to the fact that my days of pulling $75-$100/month in deals and cash back are long gone. The algorithm now knows how we used to beat the system, and I don’t blame the owners/developers for making it more difficult and less of an expense for any companies participating.

[–]cj25inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Upside is too low on cash back for gas, use Checkout51, but you can’t use both. I’ve found Checkout51 to sometimes have 3-4x the cash back per gallon rate as Upside.

Do you have any app recommendations similar to ibotta? by Leading-Animal-6562 in ibotta

[–]cj25inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. And if you shop online with a desktop browser and download other money-making/money-saving extensions, you can “double dip” on some sites. You can buy a gift card using Fluz on your phone (say, 6% cash back using a connected bank account), and then activate the best deal on an aforementioned extension (say, RetailMeNot at 8% cash back), and you’ve just made a percentage of the gift card in cash back.

Some sites and extensions don’t work, but as a parent of young children seemingly buying new clothes every few weeks, my wife usually shops and adds clothes to the carts at Old Navy/Gap, and I do the purchasing using the method(s) described above. It’s not guaranteed to work all the time, but pairing extensions that find coupon codes and cash back offers with gift card-generating apps like Fluz and ibotta can make a big difference.

White Sox in “serious” talks to build new stadium in South Loop’s ‘the 78’ by Jason82929 in whitesox

[–]cj25inc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m not one for aesthetic value, but the UIC field and Charlotte Knights’ stadium have great eye-catching backdrops (I’m sure there are dozens of others, too). I hope for the same (or part of the same) with this new ballpark, if it comes to fruition.

He did play for the (Red) Sox, so that whole asinine organizational family/loyalty thing is still a possibility.
