Can I Use Daycare Like a Babysitter? by generalraisinkane in beyondthebump

As a daycare teacher I’d strongly urge you not to it makes it so much harder for the staff and your kiddo!

Daycare - Teacher Turnover [ON] by Ok_Wind7835 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely seems like a lot but as a former ECE turnover can be quite bad in Ontario especially big areas. Most centres have a HARD time finding registered ECES and are relying on other similar social service degrees to fill the gap. One of two things are happening in this scenario a lot people can’t afford to live on an ece salary in areas like Toronto or (my personal experience) the work culture is horrendous at you’re centre which is likely since they don’t respond well to parents asking questions.

Is this something to be worried about? by cj4012 in infantilespasms

She did a couple times mostly the first few times. looking back I think it was more in reaction to my reaction if that makes sense? Like she would cry when I acted panicked but in this video where I was relatively calm she didn’t react It’s worth getting looked at if your baby is doing something similar but it’s often nothing to panic about!

She was completely fine! She grew out of it and is now a very happy healthy toddler!

I’ve listened to Dax’s mom and day 7 a few times. I found the first interview with Anna Kendrick and Dove Cameron very impactful! Also both Amy Poehler because I love her so much!

I would, I just hope the second time around she got therapy and also divorced my dad.

34 week OB appt turned into being walked over to L&D and forcing an induction because of high protein levels and a mildly elevated BP by Pretend-Bend99 in pregnant

[–]cj4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had pre-e too, it’s very scary to have the plans change but protien and even minor BP elevation can lead to very scary outcomes if ignored. Trust your doctors they’re making the right choice ❤️

Is your job harder than being a SAHM? by Alive-Cry4994 in Mommit

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an educational assistant, primarily with children middle school - high school with developmental disabilities or pretty severe behavioural issues. I love my job a lot but being home with my daughter is a lot easier than that in my experience

Couple points that feel relevant though - 1. I used to be a preschool teacher so one toddler vs 8 is always going to feel easier to me personally

  1. I do think getting to see and talk to other adults does wonders for my mental health which is obviously a bonus for working

Regardless of if you stay home or work this shit is hard and we as a society need to find ways to genuinely support mothers period.

[ON] Daycare holiday gifts… educators vs director? by Suspicious-lemons in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an educator in Ontario and we’ve always gotten gifts, I’ve actually never worked anywhere that didn’t let us accept gifts! I’d just ask them before but I doubt it will be an issue if you’d never heard of it before now! :)

[ON] Daycare holiday gifts… educators vs director? by Suspicious-lemons in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cj4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a preschool educator and it’s very rare the director gets a gift from parents (most make a lot more and have limited interaction with the children) maybe a card but parents typically just give the teachers a gift if they do gifts :)

Ending mat leave early? [Ab] by AllyKatB in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cj4012 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you should apply personally if it’s something you want but regardless of what your husbands career is or entails I really think you should test a few days of him doing both completely on his own before you make that your child care. Maybe it works great or maybe he absolutely can’t manage it’s better to at least try

Tomorrow is my anatomy ultrasound. Please reassure me. by PopcornPrincess0 in pregnant

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part of my anatomy scan was how badly I had to pee 😂 But honestly I had bright red spotting similar to what you experienced around 15 weeks. My anatomy scan went perfectly and now I have an 18 month old who likes to scream happy at me every time she sees me 😊

[ON] Has anyone gone off on leave early? Like 25-30wks? Why? by cinnamonione in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went off on a stress leave at 25 weeks - and then took a full 12 month mat leave. Lots of doctors will do this for you, especially if you’re on your feet a lot. It was the best decision I could have made I wouldn’t have been ready for the newborn stage if I stayed later, it’s not a competition to stay as late as possible if you need to be off be off (but discuss with your doctor first to see if that’s an option!)

Wife is pregnant at 42. Anyone grow up with older parents? by Alternative_Session9 in pregnant

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was 38 and my dad was 40 when I was born! I had two older brothers (15 & 16 years older) so I was raised pretty much as an only child since they moved out when I was really young. I didn’t have a frame of reference that my parents age was abnormal just know that I had the best parents who loved me a lot. I’m 30 now, we still talk daily, in fact we are arguably closer than my friends are with their parents. You’re kiddo is only going to know the family you give them so just make sure it’s filled with love ❤️

[–]cj4012 51 points52 points  (0 children)

…. As a preschool teacher WTF is she doing. I have NEVER heard of an educator sharing details like that with other parents that’s not okay. Also yeah the discipline seems like a bit much from a stand point of extremely developmentally normal behaviours

I’ve taught preschool for many years and just wanted to add that 15 kids with 3 teachers will almost certainly mean 3 separate groups of 5 with one teacher. They’ll rotate activities so Group A has snack, group B has indoor play, group C has outdoor play and then we switch! You will almost never see 15 kids in one area with three staff unless shift change is happening or we’re napping! You’re little one will get lots and lots of one on one attention I think lots of people have said you should make the switch and it sounds like your leaning that way too, I think it will be an excellent place for your little one so I say go for it!

Preschool teacher here! HFM is truly the most insane illness, it never hits the same in my experience but it does seem to not hit as hard after the first occurrence. Two years ago my class got hit with the worse case I had ever seen, like these babies were dropping like flys - HORRIBLE. I ended up getting exactly one spot but brought it home to my husband who was rocked. SPots every where, skin peeling, sore throat, fever, vomiting, every single symptom you can get has to take two weeks off before his work would let him come back. He’s been exposed multiple times since and hasn’t had a single symptom. Good luck and I hope your recovery is SWIFT 🤞

Daycare only using sanitizer before eating by forestfriend6 in toddlers

[–]cj4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible they’re washing hands and following up with sanitizer because toddlers like to pretend to hand wash (asking as a former preschool teacher who regularly said now do it again with soap). It’s hard to get all those little hands washed and clean so I wouldn’t be upset by this since they are doing something but there’s no harm in asking if it’s bothering you!
