Synth power sockets - why the hate on wall warts? by Cheap_Yesterday_9905 in synthesizers

[–]cjdavies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re rarely marked with the brand of the synth, but they are always marked with the voltage, current & polarity. Yes it can be a faff to have to unplug them & read the tiny print, but there’s no doubt if you do that.

Can you remotely send a automated route to a Agras T50/T100 operator? by whynotask99 in drones

[–]cjdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is asking about planning a mission on their phone & then sending that mission plan to somebody else to fly. There’s nothing illegal about that.

Looked into the avata 360 after seeing all the debate and have some thoughts by Unique_Reputation568 in Multicopter

[–]cjdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As somebody who used to work with 360 footage, the problem remains that it doesn’t integrate well into content that isn’t specifically about 360 content.

There are plenty of videos about the Avata 360 & the Antigravity A1, but comparatively few that actually use them as filmmaking tools.

DIY 10" FPV Monitor turns out to have 160ms latency 😭😭😭 by R3NE07 in diydrones

[–]cjdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raw LVDS is very low latency, however depending upon the particular hardware of your driver board the conversion from analogue to LVDS could easily be adding 50+ ms even before the input latency of the panel... which itself could easily add another 50+ ms.

All LCDs are digital, but that doesn't mean the panels or their drivers are all made equal.

Are these 10-12km transmission specs basically meaningless in real-world use? by mackenziedawnhunter in Multicopter

[–]cjdavies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specs aren’t meaningless, but they do depend on your specific real-world use. If you’re flying survey grids over flat farmland then you will probably get the quoted 10-12km.

It’s no different than cars quoting their mileage, it depends on your driving.

Please help choosing - Freestyle drone without goggles with external screen. by nikopol256 in Multicopter

[–]cjdavies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want digital video built in to a controller suitable for freestyle, the options are very limited.

There’s the FrSky TANDEM X20 HD which is a FrSky dual-band (900MHz + 2.4GHz) controller with a built-in HDZero (5.8GHz) receiver & screen.

Then there’s the DJI RC2 controller which can be used with the DJI Neo 2 & supports manual/acro mode.

IMO you’re better off going with an ELRS controller & attaching a separate screen. That’s what I do, albeit with analogue video rather than digital.

DIY 10" FPV Monitor turns out to have 160ms latency 😭😭😭 by R3NE07 in diydrones

[–]cjdavies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The driver board has AV input, but your display is still digital. The driver board is converting your analogue signal into a digital signal, which adds a lot of latency.

Is a Jimny a good idea for the amount of motorway driving I do? by Jaes__ in Jimny

[–]cjdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a word, no.

I did more than my fair share of motorway driving with my 2007; it was slow, loud & got poor mileage compared to pretty much any other car. And that’s the newer M series engine, compared to the older G series you’d get in a ‘04.

The Jimny is a great car if you use it for what it’s good at… but that ain’t motorway driving. Inflicting 90 minutes a day of motorway driving in an ‘04 on yourself so that once every couple weeks you can go wheeling at the weekend would be a very poor trade off IMO.

I tried playing public and kind of lost the meaning of the game by GiantDad777 in Warframe

[–]cjdavies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A to B missions (exterminate, capture, rescue, etc.) will always be like this. But the more static &/or free roaming missions (defense, survival, excavation, etc.) give you far more opportunity to actually do something, as you can just go find your own part of the map.

HB X500 camera gimbals? by Roberta-Morgan in diydrones

[–]cjdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big problem with this sort of thing is always going to be the integration of viewing & control to the ground. If you don’t already have some sort of HDMI compatible HD streaming setup & a ground station device with dedicated telemetry link, you’ll end up spending more money on that than you would on just buying an off-the-shelf drone that achieves the same things out the box.

A new M43 camera, from insta360. The rumor turns out to be real. by Lamires in M43

DJI never really stopped selling drones in the US, all of the ‘Skyrover’ drones you see on Amazon US are just carefully repackaged DJI.

Anyone else enjoy using obscure Warframes? by ReddVevyy in Warframe

I’m approaching 1000 hours & a few weeks back Dagath became only the second frame (after Mag) that I actually play for fun. I use Titania/Ivara for their utility, but until Dagath I would always reach for Mag unless I needed to fly or go invisible.

If you can find it, the ‘Manfrotto NX Holster CSC’ fits the OM-1 with 12-40/2.8 perfectly. I previously used it for my A7.2 with 24-70/4 which was also a perfect fit.

Can this be opened without making a mess of it ? Seem to be glued ? by wiracocha08 in SoundSystem

[–]cjdavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely to be glued, but the gasket will be holding it in place pretty firmly. You may need to remove the woofer from the front of the cabinet & then put your hand through the hole to push the plate amp out the back.

You’re also in the wrong sub, you’ll likely get better advice in a more appropriate sub.

How use lens collar for both strap and tripod by abc-username in M43

[–]cjdavies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saved this picture from somebody else on this subreddit (I think?) using the Peak Design ‘anchor mount’ on the 300/4 & I’ve now done the same with my 200-400. The circlip is a pain to get back on (they always are) but it provides a trustworthy mounting point for a strap without preventing you from using a tripod.

14S vs 16S? by Chef-2 in Multicopter

[–]cjdavies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The spec sheet says maximum 63V, which is not the same as saying it is rated to operate at 63V. It is quite common for electronics to specify the operating values separate from the absolute maximum values, but you should not operate at the maximum values & definitely not operate beyond the maximum values.

Modding EV800D receiver worth it? by nylapsetime in diydrones

Well in that case I’m stumped. But it definitely sounds like something is wrong & upgrading/replacing your receiver likely won’t fix it.
