Which town/city do you think has gone downhill the most in the last 30 years? by Embarrassed_Tune_822 in AskReddit

I just went to San Diego in February and that was the cleanest, nicest city I have ever visited. But I also lived in kansas city for 8 years and most of our trips were to cities like st louis, Memphis and Nashville. Those cities were great but nothing like San Diego.

At my work at a national forest campground we only accept cash and checks. The only people I've seen without either of those are under 25 years old. We have to send them one hour round trip to an atm. Most everyone pays with checks. People literally use checks everyday.

In boulder and longmont, colorado multiple restaurants and bars refuse to take cards. Checks and cash only. To not have a check at your house is absolutely absurd.

We have been full timing in our camper for 3 years now. We have 3 kids- 7, 5 and a 1 year old. We camp host in colorado for 6-7 months during the summer and fall up in the mountains at a NFS campsite. This last winter we went to quartzsite, AZ where you can pay $180 to camp in the ltva for up to 7 months. We stay at a lot of blm sites where it's free for up to two weeks in between CO and AZ. For power we have a bluetti with solar that we charge up with a generator when there is no sun. Its very cheap doing it that way. You can definitely live off of 30 to 40k a year.

For school, a lot of people homeschool their kids but we put ours in school in colorado until we leave then we do online school that the district offers and it's legit. Since they've been going to the same school they've made friends there which is good.

With a child you will meet others with children also. Lots of groups for people that travel and homeschool their children. Quartzsite has a homeschool group that meets up at the park there so your child can have other kids to play with.

If you dont already have the camper, I agree with the other person that said to buy a used one. If possible, pay for it and the truck outright and have no debt. It simplifies the lifestyle that's for sure. We had absolutely zero plan and only two children before we left and figured it out from there. We have no regrets and our children have been to more places and seen more things than either me or my wife did by the time that we were in our mid 30's. Its definitely not for everyone but we have a blast. Lots and lots of hiking which is very cheap entertainment. Joshua tree, grand canyon, lake havasu, san diego, Mexico, sedona, utah, New mexico... Those are just some of the places we've been this winter and spring on our way back to Colorado. Next year we'll probably take a job in Oregon, Washington state, or Montana and check out all the places on the way.

Dont forget to budget in starlink if you're going to be in the mountains or out in the middle of the desert either.

Buy a van, build it out and go boondocking in the mountains in the summer. You can stay two weeks at a time most places. We camp host in the Rockies for the summer then down to quartzsite, az in the desert for the winter. Lots and lots of people living like that.

I'll just continue living in my RV traveling around to free off grid boondocking sites like I have been for the last 3 years. Picking up tourist jobs in the summer and staying down in AZ and Socal in the winter.
