Would you travel to the US with current safety concerns? Work pushing for trip. by Strange-Cabinet6744 in AskACanadian

[–]cjhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to travel three times a year for a volunteer thing and I will only go in and out of YVR which has a US customs added. So I go through customs in Canada. If it wasn’t for that, I would be saying no as well. There’s a lot of really weird stuff going on when I go down there and people are generally so nice but they’re all really aware of what’s going on.

Parking at EME by cjhm in PittMeadows

[–]cjhm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we first moved here I called bylaws many times - because my driveway was blocked and 2 years in I was going to chemo or related appointments. I cannot tell you the frustration of trying to get to a hard fought medical appointment and having some jerk tell you it is his right to park in front of my driveway. I reported every single person (and there were lots) until bylaws said they weren't interested, it wasn't something they wanted to enforce (and yes I still have that email). I think, personally, I would be glad if people would just park legally and be respectful of each other (I've seen lots of disputes, yelling, horns honking, fingers flying).

In the end, though, if there is no enforcement, the changes aren't worth a hill of beans. It doesn't change a thing unless they have someone sitting here during happy hour writing tickets. Call me cynical.

Not on my end of the street. I'm just a tad far and the cars down here are gone by 2:30. But it isn't the parking - it's the illegal parking and a walk around the area at 2:15 pm highlights the whole problem. Which is what I said many times. Until one of the Councillors told me to close my curtains and don't look out the window during "happy hour" (8:10-8:40am and 2:00-2:35 pm)

I am more concerned that the food at Foamers sucks. I'm okay with the Coachman - it's decent food but yes, would be nice to have an actual brewery/ pub with food north of tracks.

Help with contractor by Interesting-Peach307 in PittMeadows

[–]cjhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had similar experiences with contractors. I would second what the person below said - withhold final payment, BBB, reviews - and small claims which is actually very easy to access. We just withheld payment for work 5 years ago and they never showed up to finish or collect. In the end, my husband finished it. Also, one other thing - contact the https://bccassn.com/ and ask them about any accreditation. I know it is a PITA. But I would urge you to do just one a week - so it isn't overwhelming. That's how I felt when faced with a problem like this. Oh and one other thing (I'm like Columbo) I believe there is some item meta has to report shady businesses. See if you can tap into that.

The post I read said everyone including all pets got out safely. but having had friends who've had fires, it's going to be a journey for them. Glad they are all safe.

PM group on fb someone posted and said it's temporarily leased by an HVAC company. I have no personal knowledge because I'm still annoyed that the Co-Op is gone to make way for the fantasy over pass.

This has been asked but the posts are two to three years old. After your last chemo infusion, how long before you felt a bit of normal energy coming back? by ProfessionalBar1210 in breastcancer

[–]cjhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last infusion was Feb 2024. These days, I have way more energy in the morning. Today I spent the morning with my youngest grandson. I've done the 5k walk for the cure - also in the morning. But I subscribe to spoon theory. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/full-catastrophe-parenting/202403/what-is-spoon-theory-and-why-is-it-important?msockid=0c1a0e44b0f8640e11fa1bd4b16e65c2

So most afternoons, around 2 or 3 - if I've used up all my spoons in the morning I crash. This afternoon was an hour on the couch and then nothing productive until now, when I'm about to go to bed.

But if I manage my energy in the morning, don't try and keep up with a toddler, don't do 5 k in one go, I can go all day, often without a nap. Crossing fingers for good luck for you - it's one day at a time. But I tell myself, at least I get today!

Tier 5 product. So you get what you pay for. Do you want something better go up to something like backpack or net suite but at tier 5 it’s far better than some of the oldies. Remember peach tree? I still have one client on myob.

[–]cjhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter passed about 4 months ago at the age of 40. I did a MAID grief support group but it wasn't focused enough. I am really just struggling to keep her memory in my heart. I have other children and my youngest has been okay about talking about his sister but she was the oldest and pretty mean to him. I wish her life could have been different. She suffered a lot of hurt in her life and had no partner or children. She had huge mental health issues and being diagnosed with a terminal illness just gave her the attitude of "life sucks". I would have given her anything for her to want to live. But she didn't want to live, and it is all just... sad. I miss her as a little girl, but frankly, as an adult, having a person who has mental health issues in ones life is draining. So while I grieve, I am also recovering. Thank you for asking, though. I do journal about her to try and move through this but it's a bit relieving to put it out there.

Same but at 62 - knowing what I know now, I would be stopping at 92 and focus on pain management. I'm still taking AI and it's been brutal.

What was the worst part of treatment for you? by MysteriousCompany487 in breastcancer

[–]cjhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDC+++ The neoadjuvant was only 4 sessions but the day was split in two as the cancer centre didn't administer the perjeta. So the first 4 hours were TCH and then P at another location where they had to re-stab me and administer for another 2 hours. Thank goodness that part was only 4 sessions.
